Once again for this season, only one is named from each region for offense, defense and special teams and we’re going to do our best to spread it around as much as possible. This week’s honors go to players from Ontario, Temecula, Calabasas, Tracy, Bishop and Easton.

Note: For purposes of this feature, we are considering the CIF Central Section to be in the north.

To nominate a player for next week, email markjtennis@gmail.com by Monday at 12 noon and be sure to include a photo that we can use (which means it’s not from the local newspaper or from another web site).

It’s also a great time to sign up for our Gold Club to see all of our great content. The yearly rate is going up possibly as early as next week. For details, CLICK HERE.

Offensive Player of the Week

Mikey Dean (Chaffey, Ontario) Sr.

He may only be listed at 5-foot-7 but that hasn’t stopped Dean from gaining huge yardage this season. In fact, after last Friday, Dean already is over 1,000 yards rushing this season after racking up 336 yards and five touchdowns on just 13 carries in a 48-10 win over Bloomington.

Through four games this year for the 4-0 Tigers, this senior captain, who had a preseason goal of rushing for 2,000 yards this season, has rushed for 1,083 yards and 15 touchdowns on 100 carries.

Defensive Player of the Week

Greg Holt (Linfield Christian, Temecula) Sr.

With their undefeated record on the line against a much bigger school, Holt was a tackling machine on defense as he made 20 tackles, including four tackles for a loss, when the Lions improved to 4-0 with a 37-21 win over Temescal Canyon of Lake Elsinore.

In the same game, Holt also had a sack, forced a fumble and rushed for a touchdown. Contributing to the varsity team since his freshman year, he now has 10.5 career sacks and 335 career tackles.

Special Teams Player of the Week

Darnay Holmes (Calabasas) Jr.

One of the nation’s top-ranked Class of 2017 players and the 2014 State Sophomore of the Year for what he did at Newbury Park (his previous school), Holmes is beginning to heat up for the unbeaten Coyotes.

In last weekend’s 34-7 triumph vs. Pacifica of Oxnard, Holmes brought back a punt 75 yards for a touchdown. It also was the second straight week in which he’s scored on a punt return. In the same game, Holmes also caught two passes for 29 yards broke up three passes and had five tackles (one for loss).

Offensive Player of the Week

Marcel Dancy (West, Tracy) Sr.

For the first time in his high school career, Dancy rushed for six touchdowns in a game while gaining 389 yards on 31 carries during a 57-42 win on the road for the Wolfpack at Chavez of Stockton.

For the season, the 5-foot-9, 180-pounder has now rushed for 988 yards and 13 TDs through four games. That’s already more rushing TDs then he had last season as he had 12 TDs to go with 1,231 yards.

Dancy, who also plays in the secondary on defense, was named to our Cal-Hi Sports Preseason All-CIF Sac-Joaquin Section first team.

Defensive Player of the Week

Hunter Kampmoyer (Bishop) Sr.

Showing why he was selected to our Cal-Hi Sports Preseason All-State first team and is committed to Oregon, Kampmoyer had an impressive performance on both sides of the ball during a 21-14 win over Arrowhead Christian of Redlands.

Defensively, the 6-foot-5, 240-pounder had eight total tackles with three for negative yards while also forcing a fumble. On offense, he carried the ball six times for 63 yards and he also caught four passes for 61 yards.

As a junior, Kampmoyer had 109 tackles, 12 sacks and five forced fumbles. He was heavily recruited in the spring and initially committed to Arizona State before switching to the Ducks.

Cal-Hi Sports Northern California
Special Teams Player of the Week

Johnny Rodriguez (Washington, Easton) Sr.

When the Panthers picked up their first win of the season with a 16-13 win over Monache of Porterville, Rodriguez was the hero.

That was mainly due to his kicking with three PATs plus 3-for-3 on field goals. One of the field goals was from 41 yards out. Another from 28 yards away was a game-winner. Rodriguez also scored Washington’s only touchdown on an interception return and caught two passes for 17 yards.
