The title game of Tuesday’s Platinum Division at the West Coast Jamboree matched the early leaders in Northern California girls basketball and saw youthful St. Mary’s of Stockton defeat senior-laden St. Ignatius of San Francisco. The St. Ignatius of San Francisco front line duo leads the Wildcats to Monday’s Platinum Division semifinals. State No. 2 St. Mary’s of Stockton also cruises in Saturday opener but No. 9 Brea Olinda is stunned and loses first game of the season.
Mater Dei of Santa Ana, the preseason No. 1 team in the state, is back on top of the Cal-Hi Sports State 20 after winning the Nike TOC in Arizona. St. Mary’s of Stockton stays No. 2 after downing previous No. 1 Long Beach Poly. There could be more changes after the post-Christmas holiday tournaments.
