After the juniors and sophomores from earlier this week, the 43rd annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Softball teams moves to the top players from what we deem medium & small schools. We’re sure some will be confused about some medium & small placements, but we do our best in this age of competitive equity playoff divisions. Both the small schools and medium schools have a first and second team all-state and remember these are also position specific. The final, overall all-state teams are still to come.

Our all-state patch for the 2026 softball season is similar to the ones we’ve offered in previous years through our partners at BillyTees.com.
To order a commemorative, official All-State Softball patch for those who’ve been named to one of our all-state teams, go to THIS LINK at BillyTees.com. The first step toward selecting this year’s Cal-Hi Sports all-state softball teams for medium schools actually came when choosing the state players of the year two weeks ago. It wasn’t that it was going to be a difficult choice for Sacramento Destiny Christian’s Ayla Tuua as the Ms. Softball Player of the Year. It’s whether she’d also be the medium schools or small schools or neither player of the year.
Going by enrollment, Destiny Christian is small schools. Going by the CIF section playoff division it played in — Sac-Joaquin D3 — then it would be medium. But with a player like Ayla and others, the Lions were shooting for D1 (or large schools) all the way. That’s why you won’t see any Destiny Christian players listed below. Look for the them in the final two posts of this cycle. They will be there with all of the others like St. Francis of Mountain View and Whitney of Rocklin, the final two teams the Lions defeated in their 31-0 season.

We do not have an all-state freshman team, but a freshman like Ponderosa pitcher Lauren Klomp can be named to other teams and she has for medium schools. Photo: Instagram.com.
We did not put any of the other teams from the SJS D3 playoffs in large schools, however. They stayed in medium and one of those teams, Ponderosa of Shingle Springs, which had a breakout season and was sitting a 27-0 and looking like it would be playing Destiny Christian in the SJS D3 final until an upset in the semifinals, has landed three players on all-state medium schools.
The three Bruins who have gained the medium schools honor are sophomore infielder Kate McCartney and freshman pitcher Lauren Klomp on first team with freshman outfielder Trinidy Fuss on second team. McCartney led the state in homers with 20 and had 49 RBI with a 625 batting average. Klomp broke out with an 18-1 record, 1.03 ERA and 243 strikeouts in 128 2/3 innings. Fuss raked for a .558 batting average and had seven homers with 40 RBI.
Medium schools also became the spot for two CIF Southern Section teams that previously have been small, but played up in divisions too high for them to remain in small. One was Paraclete of Lancaster, which was in the CIFSS D1 playoffs, while the other was Riverside Prep, which won the CIFSS D3 title. We could have put both all the way up with large and some of the teams they faced were large but decided medium was more fair.
Sydney Scripter capped a standout career for Paraclete and is first team all-state medium schools after getting small school honors last season. She led the 24-3 squad with 18 homers and batted .506 with 36 RBI. Scripter also pitched for the Spirits and went 19-1 with a 2.68 ERA and 125 strikeouts in 130 2/3 innings. Teammate Addi Vandecar also has been named second team.
Freshman Lila Morris went 22-1 for Riverside Prep in the circle and has been selected first team all-state medium schools after being named CIFSS D3 player of the year. The team also won the CIF SoCal D2 title, but did so by forfeit vs Great Oak of Temecula so Lila wasn’t able to add to her season totals. Teammate Breanna Garcia also was named second team.
The school with the most small school all-state selections was back-to-back CIF SoCal D4 champion Woodlake. The Tigers have infielder Ella Lara, daughter of head coach Ramon Lara, and dominant pitcher Mariah Ellis on first team. They also have junior outfielder Alexis Rodriguez on second team.
All of these all-state teams are position specific and are not just a list of top 30 players. There has to be at least three outfielders on every team and that can be hard since the best athletes on most softball teams are playing on the infield. There also has to be at least two catchers and most of the time we are looking for three or more.
Final Note: Other than a few exceptions, schools that were eligible to be in the Cal-Hi Sports Division IV or Division V state rankings are considered small. Some teams that were D2 for the rankings were considered large and some considered medium. Those that were in Division III were all medium. In our system, some schools with large enrollments in lower playoff divisions are just too big to be small schools. There is no all-state large schools team, but there is a third team added to the overall teams in which only players from large schools and seniors are eligible.

While Long Beach Poly’s highly regarded Ki’ele Ho-Ching couldn’t be all-state this time due to missing too many games with an injury, her teammate, Emoni Lam Sam (going to Cal), certainly played enough and batted .561 with six homers to gain a first team medium schools spot. Photo: the562.org.
