We still may be a couple of years out from the CIF crowning state champions in baseball for the first time since the early 1920s so the best that teams can look for will continue to be league and section championships.

In the 2025 season, Bishop Amat of La Puente won its 40th league title to move into a tie for second on the all-time state list with Hanford (which did not win a league title last spring). All-time leader Bakersfield with 42 league titles also didn’t get one last year. Last season also saw El Segundo notch league title No. 37 while Bullard of Fresno won its 35th. We always add that El Segundo may have more, but we don’t have how many league titles the Eagles won in the years before legendary head coach John Stevenson began coaching there in 1960.

The 2025 season also was notable in that both De La Salle of Concord and Fowler won the 14th section titles in their histories. The Spartans and head coach David Jeans also later won their third CIF NorCal Open Division regional title in four years. De La Salle and Fowler are tied for third on that all-time list, which is still led by San Diego High with 18 section titles. The Cavers, who won three CIF state titles in 1918, 1920 and 1921, have won section titles in baseball in both the Southern and San Diego Sections. The last San Diego High section title in baseball came in the 2015 season.

De La Salle, which also went 29-4 last season to improve its record to 123-27 so far for the current decade, was a catalyst for us to figure out which schools in the state so far for the 2020s have the most baseball wins and which ones have the best record. We have had similar decade leaders going back through the years and didn’t get started for the 2020s until now with the first season of the decade wiped out for most schools by COVID.

While De La Salle’s win percentage of 82.0 for the decade so far is impressive, the best record we found is for Bradshaw Christian of Sacramento at 120-19 for an 86.3 percent mark. In the past two seasons, the Pride has gone 27-4 and 32-1 and that made them hard to beat.

Colusa would have had the best record of the decade, but head coach Eric Lay left after the 2024 season and last season the Cardinals slipped to 7-18. In Lay’s previous five seasons (the team did get in six games in 2020 before the pandemic hit), Colusa posted records of 6-0, 27-1, 33-1, 26-4-1 and 28-4. That’s a mark of 126-10-1. Even with the 7-18 added on, the Cardinals’ total of 133-28-1 is still good for 82.4%.

For most wins, Colusa’s total of 133 also is still second-best in the state since 2020. The leader in that category we have ss Franklin of Elk Grove. Under head coach Bryan Kilby, the Wildcats won the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D1 title last season and ended 26-8. In their four previous seasons, they’ve gone 26-7, 30-5, 24-7 and 20-8 for 136 wins. The team’s 136-33 record also comes out to 80.4 for a winning percentage.

Here is a list of players for accomplishments from last season that have now all been added to our all-time state records for pitching:

Danny Aguilar (Livingston)
Graduated standout pitched a two-hitter with 20 strikeouts in a 3-1 victory vs Johansen of Modesto.

Drake Brito (Irvine)
He had back-to-back no-hitters (at least five innings pitched in each game) for the Vaqueros. It’s amazing how many are listed with no-hitters on MaxPreps who basically just pitched of a couple of innings in a game.

Jackson Balden
(Legacy Christian Academy, Bakersfield)

A junior from last season, Balden tossed a perfect game with 20 strikeouts in a 9-0 triumph over Laton.

Seth Hernandez (Corona)
The State Mr. Baseball Player of the Year and the sixth pick in the first round of the 2025 MLB Draft makes the state record book with his 0.51 career ERA. He pitched 109 1/3 innings in two seasons with the Panthers. He was home schooled before that.

Aiden Madden (Kern Valley, Lake Isabella)
He struck out the first 12 batters of the game for the Broncos when they rolled past Mojave, 24-1. He is starting his senior season.

Blake Moore (California City)
Four-year standout capped his career with 600 strikeouts to edge Manuel Mendez (Easton Washington) for second-place on the all-time list and a new CIF Central Section record. Blake, who was the State Small Schools Player of the Year (he also batted), fell short of the state record of 646 set in 1990 by Craig Van Hulzen of Apple Valley Christian.

Trent Roach (Hollister)
We’re still working on getting Trent’s career ERA but for one season the ace for the Haybalers last season (he’s now at Cal) had a 0.00 ERA. There were others reported on MaxPreps with a 0.00 ERA, but none did it with a 40-inning minimum. Roach had a 0.00 in 42 innings pitched.

Here is a list of players for accomplishments in games from last season that have now been added to our all-time state records for hitting/offense:

Ethan Ash (Cal Lutheran, Wildomar)
There were two listings for Ash from last season. First, he knocked in 12 runs for his team during 27-0 romp past The Grove School of Redlands. Second, he ended the season with 59 RBI to lead the state and also go on to the all-time state list. The state’s reported No. 2 RBI leader, Alan Gonzalez of Salinas Palma with 51, fell four RBI short of making it on to that same list. Ethan also had a .721 batting average last season in 68 at-bats, which gained another state record listing.

Elijah Castaneda-Azcueta (Overfelt, San Jose)
We had a player with 11 triples in one season in 2024 and another with 10 in 2023. For 2025, Castaneda-Azcueta had 10 and thus joined the other on the all-time state list.

Santa Clara High’s Jaxton Chao was league MVP last season for team that won 29 games. He earned a state record listing for most hits in a season with 59. Photo: scbruinsbaseball / Instagram.com.

Jaxton Chao (Santa Clara)
It was a memorable 2025 season for the Bruins as they won the CCS D4 title and went 29-4 overall. Chao, a senior, was among their leaders and had 59 hits. That total led the state and gave Chao a mention on the all-time state list.

Christopher Fisher (West Park, Roseville)
Graduated senior from just the third senior class at newish Roseville high school led the state last season with 54 runs scored. That total didn’t approach the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section record of 60 set in 2019 by Jason Harris Colfax, but it did qualify for the all-time state list.

Noah Hubbard (Etna)
His total of 57 runs scored as a junior was added to the state record files last year. He went on to finish his career with 147 runs scored, which easily is enough for another all-time list.

Sammy Kane (Jesuit, Carmichael)
One of the top players this season in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section, Kane (who has signed with Oregon) had a memorable outing for the Marauders in a nine-inning battle vs Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills that stretched out over two days. He had four doubles and was added to the files for single-game doubles.

Tayler Parrille (La Canada)
We had another player last season who had four doubles in one game and it was Parrille, who will be a senior at La Canada this season. He did it in a 14-1 win vs South El Monte.

Landyn Plaut (Lincoln)
Last season’s reported state home run leader cranked out 15 round-trippers. That also puts him on the all-time state list right at the bottom. Those who had 14 or less fell short of the all-time list.

Riley Salvemini (Woodland)
A freshman standout for the Wolves last season, Riley had 57 hits and already has one all-time state list total. We expect more in the next three years.

Brandon Sanchez (Notre Dame, Riverside)
Senior standout did it all for the Titans in 2025 with pitching and hitting. The total that gained him a listing in the state records, however, was for doubles. He had 20 in 29 games.
