Jelani Dippel (left) from Central of Fresno passed for 3,515 yards and 41 TDs and he ran for 375 yards and three scores for team that won Central Section D1AA title and played in CIF D1-A state final. At right is first team soph all-state defensive lineman Isaia Vandermade from St. Ignatius of San Francisco. He played for his dad/head coach Lenny Vandermade, who decided last week that he will be coaching with former college teammate Carson Palmer at Santa Margarita. Isaia will be at SMC as well. Welcome to the first selections for the 47th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams. These are the longest running all-state teams in California by a wide margin. We start as always with a look at those getting first, second and third team honors among sophomores. Perennial powerhouse St. John Bosco had a very young team this season and as expected leads the way with five first or second team all-state sophomores. It might be a surprise, though, that an Orange County school not in the Trinity League would be second with four.
