Class of 25 FB: Hot 100 Player Ranks

Davon Mitchell, a tight end Class of 2025 at Los Alamitos, catches a pass during a camp earlier this spring. Los Al also had a high profile transfer last season in T.A. Cunningham, who missed the first five games due to a ruling by the CIF Southern Section. Cunningham is now at Miami Central in Florida. Photo: Twitter.com.

Here’s the first in-depth look at the state’s leading D1 prospects for football heading into the 2023 season. The big news is that the No. 1 player is Davon Mitchell, a transfer from Allen High in Texas, which just seems strange given the palace that school plays in and the competition in the Lone Star State. State Sophomore Player of the Year Jordon Davison is second with many other teammates from Mater Dei of Santa Ana also in the top 20.

Can it be true that an elite football player from one of the top schools in Texas would transfer to a school in Southern California and the competition is better?

Well, if you are considering all of the teams that played in the CIF Southern Section Division I playoffs last season and that the player in question is going to one of them, then the answer is yes.

That player is 6-foot-4, 245-pound tight end Davon Mitchell. He’s the top-ranked tight end for the Class of 2025 in the nation and he transferred earlier this year from Allen High of Allen, Texas, to Los Alamitos. Mitchell also is going to start the 2023 season as the top-ranked junior in the state, according to the Cal-Hi Sports HOT 100 player rankings and also two of the three major recruiting networks.
