Lions All-Star Football Rosters

The 47th annual Central California Lions All-Star Football Game was supposed to have been played on Saturday, June 14 at Lincoln High School’s Alex G. Spanos Stadium.

As many know, along with all spring high school sports and all early summer high school events, this year’s game was canceled due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic in mid-March.

Prior to the cancellation, players had been selected for this year’s game. They not only were not able to be celebrated at the game, but the annual banquet for the game also was canceled.

Members of the all-star game football committee still wanted to announce the rosters of the two teams that would been playing. We’ll miss seeing them and finding out perhaps whihave ch ones of them could have emerged from the competitive situation as promising players for the next levels of the game.

The Lions All-Star Football Classic began in 1974 and was held at the University of Pacific’s Memorial Stadium until 2011. With that stadium at the time being prepared for its eventual demolition, the Lions game moved to Modesto Junior College for two years and for six years from 2013 to 2018 had been held at Tracy High’s Wayne Schneider Stadium.

The Lincoln stadium, through the cooperation of athletic director Brian Gray, was a great location for the local all-star game last year. It is regarded as one of the best high school football stadiums in California and has been the site of numerous CIF Sac-Joaquin Section and CIF Northern California football championship games.

The North won last year’s game 19-18 and snapped a six-game winless streak in the series. The North also leads in the overall series 25-19-1.

The Lions All-Star Football Game Committee also would like to thank the two coaches who had begun to work on this year’s game — Booker Guyton from Edison of Stockton for the north and Greg Bockman from Beyer of Modesto for the south.
