After all of this weekend’s CIF section championships in basketball are complete, the CIF will meet on Sunday morning to finalize its pairings for this year’s state playoffs. The biggest questions always surround which teams will be in the Open Division and which ones should get a first-round bye. We have both boys and girls recommendations in this post. We like byes in all four brackets (even three in one of them) but history says that’s probably not going to happen.

(Note: Teams from the CIF Central Section can go to the Open Divisions currently in either the north or south. That’s true for any division actually. We always say it should be the north to more fairly reflect the state’s population, but we know that’s not always possible.)
