Here’s some record updates and highlights of top coaches, players & teams from the past week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.
Sophomore Jalen Green from San Joaquin Memorial of Fresno put on a show last Friday night by scoring a game high of 32 points, 26 coming in the first half, in an 80-53 win over visiting Sanger. Green also scored 15 points & had 12 rebounds in a blowout win over Edison of Fresno 78-50 earlier in the week. Teammate 6-foot-7 senior Dameane Douglas contributed 26 points & 15 points in both games.
Senior Bryan Paredes of Tulare Western scored a game high of 32 points in a 77-52 win over Delano. Western then suffered its first East Yosemite League loss to Porterville 61-59 in a game that Paredes scored 18 points.
Junior Edward Turner of Foothill (Bakersfield) scored a season high of 30 points and pulled down 17 rebounds and had 11 blocks in a 72-58 win over North of Bakersfield.
Justin Greiner of Centennial (Bakersfield) scored a game high of 33 points in a 64-60 win over Stockdale to get last week going. Justin also scored a game high of 25 points in an 81-52 win over Garces. He has made 102 three-pointers for the season and last week was the Cal-Hi Sports NorCal Player of the Week.
It may have been a low-scoring game, but Aymar Cazares of Mira Monte (Bakersfield) scored a career high of 30 points in a 51-50 win over South of Bakersfield.
Here’s one that already has been recognized by Cal-Hi Sports for the NorCal Player of the Wek honor. It’s for junior Kiara Brown of Tulare, who set three school records by scoring 46 points, pulling down 30 rebounds and making 20 three throws in a 72-64 win over Monache of Porterville. In the second game of the week, Brown scored 24 points and had 20 rebounds in a 61-14 win over Delano.
Junior Madison Campbell of Clovis West (Fresno) scored a game high of 33 points in a 68-23 win over Central of Fresno. Madison also scored 12 points in a 63-24 win against Buchanan. Clovis West pushed its league winning streak to 57 consecutive wins.
Finally, senior Kendi Baxter-Jones of Exeter scored a season high of 33 points in an 80-67 win over Kingsburg.
