CIF Central Sec: Tulare County shines

Here’s some record updates and highlights of top players & teams from the recent week as reported to us from CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett of Fresno. Bob has done phenomenal work on behalf of CIF Central Section schools, athletes and coaches for more than 40 years.

FOOTBALL

Junior quarterback Nathan Lamb of Tulare passed for 322 yards on 11 of 16 attempts and had five touchdowns in a 54-7 win over visiting Independence of Bakersfield. Teammate Kazmeir Allen also scored five touchdowns by returning a kickoff return 92 yards, catching five passed for 195 yards and three touchdowns and scoring on a 66-yard run.

Quarterback Jalen Smith of Stockdale (Bakersfield) had quite a Friday night by tossing four touchdowns on 18 of 22 attempts for 249 yards in a 35-13 win over West of Bakersfield.

Devontae Freeman of El Diamante (Visalia) had a career high by rushing for 231 yards on 28 carries, good for three touchdowns, in a 38-16 win over Mt. Whitney of Visalia. Both teams combined to accumulate 28 penalties for 287 yards.

Tyler Villines of Fresno Christian rushed for a game high of 221 yards on just 11 carries and scored five touchdowns in a 58-6 over Mammoth of Mammoth Lakes.

Quarterback J.J. Lino from Central Valley Christian (Visalia) continues to have a stellar year by passing for four touchdowns on 5 of 6 attempts for 103 yards in a 56-0 romp past Cesar Chavez of Delano. Two touchdowns went to receiver Gavin Salierno. Catching up on the previous week in win against Chowchilla, Lino set two school records with 34 completions & 44 attempts. Salierno also set a school record with 17 receptions.
