FB: Top 10 Rankings Update

With so many teams on its bye week, the only possible change would be to drop No. 5 Narbonne after its close call to Los Angeles. We didn’t do it, so all 10 from last week remain in order.

NOTE: Our updated State Top 25 with list of many other teams on the bubble will be posted each week but will require Gold Club membership to see. Our breakdowns and analysis of what’s coming up and what’s already happened can’t be matched anywhere else because we’ve been following the statewide scene years and years longer than any other media source. (After games of Saturday, Oct. 1)
(Previous ranking in parentheses)

1. (1) Centennial (Corona) 4-1
Two-time defending largest class champions from the CIF Southern Section have lost only to national No. 2 IMG Academy of Florida and by just one point.

2. (2) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 4-1
Like Centennial, the Braves also had a bye last Friday. They’ll play Servite next.

3. (3) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 5-0
The Monarchs, who didn’t play anyone in their preseason close to either IMG Academy or Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas, start Trinity League action vs. Santa Margarita.

4. (4) Mission Viejo 6-0
This was the only one of the big four from the CIFSS that didn’t have a bye over the weekend. Diablos crushed El Toro 55-14.

5. (5) Narbonne (Harbor City) 5-0
We thought long and hard about dropping the Gauchos a few spots for having such a tough time with Los Angeles (13-6 win), but their win over Serra (Gardena) also keeps getting stronger and beating Long Beach Poly is never that easy, either.

6. (6) De La Salle (Concord) 4-1
We may not see proof of whether this year’s Spartans can get their game up to their usual level until Nov. 4 when they play Monte Vista of Danville.

7. (7) Del Oro (Loomis) 6-0
An easy win over Nevada Union continued to build momentum for the Golden Eagles heading into this week’s showdown with Folsom.

8. (8) Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 5-0
It was a bye week for many of the top teams in the CIF San Diego Section as well.

9. (9) St. Augustine (San Diego) 5-0
Coming off of bye week, the Saints figure to get a test from Madison, one of San Diego’s other top teams.

10. (10) Rancho Cucamonga 5-0
Game against Upland this week will be interesting due to the transfer history between the two schools.
