This is the place to go for a quick glance at the top teams in California and for some immediate analysis. The highest ranked team to lose on Friday was No. 3 St. John Bosco, but that was perhaps to the best team in the nation while No. 1 De La Salle nearly gets stunned in one-point win over Servite of Anaheim team that’s from the same league as St. John Bosco.

Here is a look at scores through Saturday night, Sept 10. Check back later in the weekend for completed scoreboard through Saturday, Sept 10.

1. De La Salle (Concord) 3-0
Defeated Servite (Anaheim) 28-27. The Spartans overcame a 27-20 deficit in the last two minutes of the game on a TD run by Kairee Robinson and then a Robinson two-point conversion. The near-upset probably will cause a shift in the next state rankings using comparative scores involving Servite.

2. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 2-1
LOST to Bishop Gorman (Las Vegas, Nev.) 35-20. Bosco had the edge for much of the first half, but the Gaels’ strength and speed on both sides of the ball were too much. Gorman hasn’t lost to a California team since 2010.

3. Centennial (Corona) 2-1
Defeated Lutheran (Orange) 42-14. The bounceback win for the Huskies over the Lancers, combined with having just that one-point loss to IMG of Florida, may push them up to the top of the next state rankings.

4. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 3-0
Defeaed La Mirada 48-0. Sure, it looks like the Monarchs may not have played anybody yet, but La Mirada beat Orange Lutheran in its first game and their season-opening win over Bishop Amat (62-14) is looking great since Amat beat Servite last week.

5. Mission Viejo 3-0
Defeated La Habra 32-14. It was a win over La Habra in 2014 that started the Diablos on their current 31-game winning streak. Their season-opening win over Santa Margarita also is looking better and better.

6. Narbonne (Harbor City) 3-0
Defeated Palos Verdes (PV Estates) 28-7. The Gauchos beat another South Bay powerhouse after their earlier win over Serra of Gardena.

7. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 3-0
Defeated Santiago (Corona) 41-13. The Shark infested waters of Santiago were navigated quite nicely by the Broncos.

8. Folsom 3-0
Defeated Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 55-0. For a few minutes on Friday when it looked like De La Salle might lose, the possibility of the Bulldogs being No. 1 in Northern California was being debated among some of the media scribes at the St. Mary’s-Central Catholic game.

9. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 3-0
Defeated No. 25 Central Catholic (Modesto) 49-0. Jake Dunniway tossed six TD passes for the Rams in a surprisingly one-sided game despite Central Catholic sitting 19 players (some starters) in first half for team rule violations.

10. Del Oro (Loomis) 3-0
Defeated No. 23 Bellarmine (San Jose) 16-14. The Golden Eagles were dominant in the first half, but had to hold on to beat last year’s NorCal D1-AA champs even though they were far from home at San Jose City College.

11. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 2-1
Defeated Paraclete (Lancaster) 21-14. After their 65-55 win over Chaminade to start the season, the Lions have lost 49-17 to a top team from Pennsylvania now just hold to beat Paraclete.

12. Chaminade (West Hills) 2-1
Defeated Valencia 42-15. It’s a second straight big-time romp for the Eagles, who beat St. Bonaventure last week 49-7. T.J. Pledger scored three times while Steve McIntosh got a huge strip fumble when Valencia was on the 1-yard line.

13. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 3-0
Defeated Westview (San Diego) 34-0. The Dons did their part to set up next week’s showdown with No. 14 Helix.

14. Helix (La Mesa) 2-1
Defeated Eastlake (Chula Vista) 42-7. No disrespect to San Diego Section media poll No. 1 St. Augustine, but the winner of the Cathedral Catholic-Helix game next week really should be No. 1.

15. Elk Grove 2-0
Defeated Lincoln (Stockton) 65-12. Head coach Chris Nixon’s team likely to be 4-0 when it plays Grant of Sacramento on Sept. 30.

16. St. Francis (Mountain View) 2-0
Did not play. The Lancers had a bye. They’ll take on Atascadero next week.

17. Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 2-1
LOST to Grandview (Aurora, Colo.) 50-49. The Wolves beat the Nighthawks by scoring at the end and getting a two-point conversion. California just isn’t doing very well so far in big games vs. teams from other states this year.

18. Liberty (Bakersfield) 2-1
LOST to Central (Fresno) 38-0. The CIF Central Section can now be officially called a mess. Central was impressive but lost its first game to a Fresno Bullard team that just lost to Clovis.

19. St. Augustine (San Diego) 3-0
Defeated Loyola (Los Angeles) 17-14. Anytime the Saints can beat a CIF Southern Section heavyweight it’s big, but Loyola was coming in off a lopsided loss to Santa Margarita. John Spencer saved the day with late interception.

20. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 1-1
Did not play. The Jackrabbits have an extra week to prepare for their game next week at No. 5 Mission Viejo.

21. Monte Vista (Danville) 2-0
Defeated Foothill (Pleasanton) 35-16. Facing a hungry Foothill team that was 0-2, the Mustangs didn’t allow the Falcons to get their first win. The extra week to prepare for the game helped.

22. Calabasas 3-0
Defeated West Adams (Los Angeles) 51-14. Head coach Casey Clausen’s squad didn’t score in the fourth quarter but that was because the game was already in control.

23. Bellarmine (San Jose) 2-1
LOST to No. 10 Del Oro of Loomis 16-14. The Bells trailed 16-0 at halftime and battled back before coming up a failed two-point conversion shy of tying the game.

24. Clayton Valley (Concord) 2-1
Defeated Canyon Springs (North Las Vegas, Nev.) 35-7. It was surprising to see the Ugly Eagles trailing 7-0 after the first quarter, but they dominated the final three quarters on the way to the 35-7 win.

25. Central Catholic (Modesto) 1-2
LOST to No. 9 St. Mary’s (Stockton) 49-0. Hard to gauge this one since the Raiders sat 19 players in the first half (many of them starters). Still, the Rams scored early and often through the air.

Helix has small o-line that allows QB no time. They have no run game. CC should win that battle (CC vs Helix). Madison may be over ranked. St. Augustine is steady and good. Oceanside is quietly dominating teams with size, speed, and play. RB is not use to playing against the latter one after another (now Open Division). For those teams that predict State Bowl before season start, will get grown-folks reality check. You have to win your section first i.e. (no one pays your bills).

Time for the Pitt Pirates to enter the top 25- they have been outstanding on both sides of the ball.

Rankings are from last week before Del Oro and Bellarmine played and before St. Mary’s-Central Catholic.
