There’s only one newcomer this week, but plenty of movement due to upsets involving previous No. 2 Mission Viejo and previous No. 7 Mater Dei of Santa Ana. Los Alamitos climbs back to No. 2 behind No. 1 Orange Lutheran while Amador Valley joins the top five. The only new team is defending CIF Central Section D1 champ Clovis.

1. (1) LUTHERAN (ORANGE) 26-3
Given the usual tumultuous nature of top softball teams playing each other in places like Orange County, it’s been more than norm rather than the extreme for the No. 1 team to lose at least once every week. Last week, though, the Lancers won twice in Trinity League action before topping No. 6 Huntington Beach 6-4 in the rain-delayed Michelle Carew Classic title game. In one of those two league games, OLu also beat up on state-ranked Mater Dei, handling the Monarchs by a 14-3 final score. The Lancers play Santa Margarita to get this week going, which was the team that upset Mater Dei last week.
