As expected, the two biggest games of Friday night were the No. 8 vs. No. 9 and No. 7 vs. No. 13 matchups in the CIFSS Pac-5 Division. For different reasons, both were memorable as Bishop Amat topped Oaks Christian in a stat-crazed shootout while Mater Dei edged Serra thanks to recovering a poor punt snap in the end zone late in the game. On Saturday, No. 14 Foothill of Pleasanton won while bubble team Grant of Sacramento lost.

Here is a look at scores through Saturday night, Nov. 21. Check back on Monday for updated new rankings with breakdowns and analysis not available anywhere else.

1. De La Salle (Concord) 10-1
Defeated California (San Ramon) 47-0. It was 40-0 at halftime of the CIF North Coast Section D1 quarterfinal against a team the Spartans beat 56-0 two weeks ago. The defense also has still not allowed a touchdown since the second week. De La Salle will play Pittsburg (10-2) next, a 48-28 winner over Monte Vista of Danville on Saturday night that avenged an earlier loss.

2. Centennial (Corona) 12-0
Defeated Lutheran (Orange) 49-27. Ignore the score. This one was not as close as the last time these two met in the regular season. Centennial was leading 42-7 and took foot off the gas. Plays on road vs. Mater Dei next in CIF Southern Section Pac-5 semifinals.

3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 12-0
Defeated No. 18 Loyola (Los Angeles) 52-14. Despite being the road team, the Braves crushed the Cubs in another easy win. Although Loyola was ranked this week and Orange Lutheran was not, there’s little if any difference between those two so there’s still really been no blinking whatsoever in the buildup to the likely Bosco-Centennial showdown. The CIFSS has got to be lovin’ it.

4. Folsom 12-0
Defeated Franklin (Elk Grove) 49-21. QB Jake Jeffrey had a Jake Browning-like outing with 435 yards passing and five TDs as the Bulldogs won their state-best 28th in a row and moved into CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D1 semis. UP next for Folsom is 10-2 St. Mary’s of Stockton.

5. Mission Viejo 12-0
Defeated Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 42-21. This was a one-score game into the fourth quarter so it was not easy for the Diablos. Still, they’re now 12-0 with a 22-game win streak and playing next in the CIFSS West Valley semifinals.

6. Elk Grove 12-0
Defeated Merced 58-16. It was another huge night for emerging Mr. Football State Player of the Year candidate Ryan Robards as he had 375 yards rushing with five more TDs. He now has 45 TDs for the season and more than 2,500 yards. Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills (10-2) is next in the CIFSJS D1 playoffs.

7. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 10-2
Defeated No. 13 Serra (Gardena) 28-27. The Monarchs were trailing late in the game when they scored off a bad snap into the end zone by Serra. Head coach Bruce Rollinson went for two and got it on a pass from J.T. Daniels to Curtis Robinson. The MD defense then stopped Serra on downs. Up next in the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs will be No. 2 Centennial.

8. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 10-2
Defeated No. 9 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 61-40. The Lancers led 21-0 and had to keep scoring to hold off the Lions in one of the most stat-filled CIFSS playoff games ever. Amat stats tweeted out by @Evan_b (Evan Barnes) showed Lancer RB Torreahno Sweet with 33 carries for 370 yards and three TDs. Amat will play No. 3 St. John Bosco next.

9. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 11-1
LOST to No. 8 Bishop Amat (La Puente) 61-40. Those Amat stats we mentioned above also had WR Michael Pittman of the Lions with 18 catches for 386 yards and five TDs in his final game. Sophomore QB Matt Corral also threw for more than 400 yards and one of the TDs to Pittman was a 99-yarder that obviously ties the state record. If Amat plays Bosco close next week, that will help Oaks Christian’s final state ranking.

10. Clayton Valley (Concord) 10-1
Defeated Windsor 52-6. After their first-round bye in the CIFNCS D2 playoffs, the Ugly Eagles crushed the team from the Redwood Empire. They play either Granada of Livermore in the semifinals. Granada won its quarterfinal game on Saturday 64-43 vs. Tennyson of Hayward.

11. Mission Hills (San Marcos) 11-0
Defeated La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) 47-0. After taking a week off (like all teams do in the CIF San Diego Section Open Division), the Grizzlies blanked the Mavericks. They will play at St. Augustine of San Diego (9-2) in the semis. St. Aug’s losses, though, were to Loyola of L.A. and Vista Murrieta.

12. Helix (La Mesa) 9-1
Defeated Madison (San Diego) 56-34. The Highlanders move on as the top seed in the San Diego Section Open Division and will play Cathedral Catholic next in the semifinals.

13. Serra (Gardena) 9-3
LOST to No. 7 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 28-27. Khalil Tate had more than 300 yards of combined offense in the first half alone, but the Cavs were heart-broken in the CIFSS Pac-5 quarterfinals when a bad punt snap resulted in the game-winning score for the Monarchs. Serra thus will remain a tough team to figure out with another early playoff exit despite all that D1 talent. It is the Pac-5, though, so comparing Pac-5 seasons to the state title seasons in lower divisions isn’t really fair, either.

14. Foothill (Pleasanton) 11-0
Defeated Freedom (Oakley) 48-28 on Saturday. The Falcons faced Freedom in the CIFNCS D1 quarterfinals. They will next play unbeaten Antioch in the semifinals.

15. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 8-2**
**Season complete and record does not include forfeits. The Jackrabbits have a win over Narbonne with losses to De La Salle and Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas.

16. Narbonne (Harbor City) 10-2
Defeated San Pedro 55-27. The Gauchos trailed the Pirates 10-7 early on in the CIF L.A. City Section Division I quarterfinal but stormed back for the easy win. RB Sean Riley scored five touchdowns.

17. Bellarmine (San Jose) 10-1
Defeated Piedmont Hills (San Jose) 39-0. This was the opening round of the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division I bracket and it was an expected result. Up next will be San Benito of Hollister in the semifinals.

18. Loyola (Los Angeles) 9-3
LOST to No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 52-14. If the Cubs were thoroughly out-played by one of the greatest teams in California history, this loss may end up not being that bad. We’ll probably find out on Dec. 5 in Anaheim and then two weeks later in Sacramento.

19. Camarillo 12-0
Defeated St. Joseph (Santa Maria) 38-7. The good news was that the Scorpions had no trouble in advancing out of the CIFSS Northern Division quarterfinals. According to tweets, however, QB Jake Constantine had an ejection and according to rules also will be out of the semifinal matchup vs. unbeaten Bishop Diego of Santa Barbara.

20. Tesoro (Las Flores) 9-3
LOST to Rancho Cucamonga 53-28. While the Titans lost to a third-place team from the Baseline League, the Cougars also were a team that only lost to Mission Viejo by three points last year and also were in our preseason state rankings.

21. La Habra 11-1
Defeated Laguna Hills 42-14. The beat goes on for the Highlanders, who still have lost only to Mission Viejo, and will continue in next week’s CIFSS Southwest Division semifinals. Their opponent in that game, though, is Villa Park, which is 12-0 and beat 11-0 Valencia of Placentia in its game on Friday.

22. Antioch 11-0
Defeated Amador Valley (Pleasanton) 58-21. Super standout Najee Harris only scored once for the Panthers, who spread it out more this time in an impressive outing in the CIFNCS Division I quarterfinals.

23. Ridgeview (Bakersfield) 11-0
Defeated West (Bakersfield) 54-35. This was the Wolf Pack’s first outing in the CIF Central Section D2 playoffs. They are the section’s top-ranked overall team and will continue defense of their section title next week vs. Sunnyside of Fresno.

24. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 11-1
Defeated Upland 21-14. Cole Dubots broke loose on what looked like an 80-yard TD run late in the game to give the Broncos the win in the CIFSS West Valley Division quarterfinals.

25. Calabasas 11-1
Defeated Lawndale 33-7. The Coyotes advanced in the CIFSS Western Division playoffs and take on Redondo Union of Redondo Beach in the semifinals. Their only loss remains the one by one point to No. 19 Camarillo.

Let’s move those Heritage Patriots up in that top 25!

If Heritage wants to get into the top 25, they’re going to have to step up their schedule… by a whole lot. They only faced one team that finished with a winning record all regular season. There’s probably a dozen teams with better resumes waiting in line.
