No. 1 De La Salle rolls in Saturday night home game. On Friday, No. 9 Santa Margarita falls to Westlake in an upset many didn’t see coming. Another Orange County team from Mission Viejo, meanwhile, has a great night not just due to its own result but those from other games. No. 15 Serra of Gardena also wins in a matchup of two State Top 25 squads.

Here is a look at scores through Friday night, Sept. 18. Check back later in the weekend for completed scoreboard through Saturday, Sept. 19.

1. De La Salle (Concord) 3-1
Defeated No. 20 Orange Lutheran 41-3 on Saturday. Head coach Justin Alumbaugh’s team scored on its first four possessions.

2. Centennial (Corona) 4-0
Defeated Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks 52-0. Notre Dame’s previous two losses to No. 19 Oaks Christian and No. 22 Serra of San Mateo were both by one-score margins.

3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 4-0
Defeated Crespi of Encino 55-7. The Braves are going to New Jersey next week to play St. Peter’s Prep of Jersey City.

4. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 4-0
Defeated Upland 43-14. The Monarchs should be 5-0 heading into their Trinity League opener on Oct. 9 vs. Orange Lutheran.

5. Folsom 4-0
Defeated Burbank of Sacramento 56-20. The Bulldogs dominated in the second half and stretched current win streak to 20 games.

6. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 2-1
Lost to Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas, Nev., 52-13. One highlight for the Jackrabbits was a 65-yard TD pass from QB Malik Henry (just declared ready to play) to WR Jackie Jones.

7. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 3-1
Defeated Chino Hills 63-28. Since losing first game to Mater Dei by three, the Lancers and Monarchs have had no difficulties. Chino Hills was a team that beat Amat one year ago.

8. Grant (Sacramento) 3-0
Did not play. Head coach Mike Alberghini’s squad is idle this week and opens Delta League competition next Friday at Franklin of Elk Grove.

9. Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 3-1
Lost to bubble team Westlake of Westlake Village 21-14. This loss is going to cause a major tumble for the Eagles. Westlake has a loss itself, which is to 1-3 Red Mountain of Mesa, Ariz. Is Arizona really that good?

10. Mission Viejo 5-0
Defeated No. 17 Norco 37-13. Huge night for the Diablos. In addition to their own win, Santa Margarita lost (no longer any doubt about which OC team should be No. 2 behind Mater Dei) and La Habra beat Los Alamitos (handing Los Al its first loss) one week after losing to Mission.

11. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 3-0
Defeated Lakewood 43-7. It was a stronger outing from the defense than in the first two wins.

12. Narbonne (Harbor City) 1-2
Lost to Serra of Gardena 41-40 in OT. The Gauchos went for a two-point conversion to win the game in OT after Serra scored and kicked a PAT on its OT series. Despite loss, still heavy favorite for L.A. City Section title.

13. Alemany (Mission Hills) 4-0
Defeated Dorsey of Los Angeles 57-18. The Warriors beat a team that lost to Santa Margarita 33-13 one week earlier.

14. Bellarmine (San Jose) 3-0
Defeated Aptos 35-7. It wasn’t quite like winning in the last 35 seconds like the previous game vs. Del Oro.

15. Serra (Gardena) 3-1
Defeated No. 12 Narbonne of Harbor City 41-40 in OT. QB Khalil Tate scored six touchdowns in an epic battle between the top two teams from the South Bay region of L.A.

16. Mission Hills (San Marcos) 4-0
Defeated Poway 27-7. It’s a solid win that will keep the Grizzlies No. 1 in San Diego, but perhaps we forgot a bit too much about Helix since that opening loss by the Highlanders to out-of-state opponent, especially since Helix just blasted Cathedral Catholic 37-7.

17. Norco 2-1
Lost to No. 10 Mission Viejo 37-13. Since Mission may move up to No. 8 or higher in the next rankings, this loss may not drop the Cougars all the way out.

18. Clayton Valley (Concord) 3-1
Defeated James Logan (Union City) 42-13. We’ll know more after next week’s game vs. unbeaten Monte Vista, but there is growing support in the possibility that a Folsom-Clayton Valley rematch in the NorCal D1AA bowl game could happen.

19. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 4-0
Defeated Antelope Valley of Lancaster 48-14. The bigger news for the Lions and their Marmonte League, of course, was Westlake’s win over Santa Margarita. Too bad we have to wait until Nov. 6 for the Benkert Bowl.

20. Lutheran (Orange) 2-2
Lost to No. 1 De La Salle of Concord 41-3 on Saturday night. The Lancers fell to No. 2 Corona Centennial 35-14 in their previous game and are playing No. 3 St. John Bosco later in the season.

21. Clovis 4-0
Defeated Stockdale (Bakersfield) 49-42. The Cougars had to come from behind to get this win. Fresno Bullard’s 21-14 loss to No. 8 Grant of Sacramento is actually the most impressive result for a CIF Central Section team so far this year.

22. Serra (San Mateo) 2-1
Defeated South San Francisco 40-0. Watch out for two weeks when Serra is playing No. 14 Bellarmine in WCAL opener.

23. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 4-0
Defeated Hamilton (Los Angeles) 42-14. It’s another weak opponent for the Lions, which won’t drop them out of the rankings but it’s easy for others to pass them (like possibly Westlake or Helix).

24. Loyola (Los Angeles) 4-0
Defeated Salesian of Los Angeles 52-22 on Thursday. The Cubs play next at home against No. 15 Serra of Gardena in Mission League opener.

25. Elk Grove 3-0
Defeated Yuba City 48-14. Ryan Robards accounted for four more TDs for the Thundering Herd.

Dropped Out:
Previous No. 18 Pittsburg; No. 20 Redlands East Valley (Redlands); No. 23 Del Oro (Loomis).

“Fresno Bullard’s 21-14 loss to No. 8 Grant of Sacramento is actually the most impressive result for a CIF Central Section team so far this year.”

This probably says more about Grant than the CS. That Bullard could only beat 2-2 Buchanan by 5 and 0-3 Central by 4 only tells me that the Knights probably aren’t very good and the Pacers’ ranking is based on having played 3 bad to mediocre opponents.

Then, against whom would you pit Bellarmine? I don’t get the notion above. At best, Clayton Valley goes against the CS D-I winner… and probably wins easily.

That is if Bellarmine were to lose a game, which given the history of the WCAL, no matter how strong a team looks early on, seems to happen quite frequently. If Bellarmine doesn’t lose a game, then it would get SJS D1 winner. If Clayton Valley beats Monte Vista, perhaps Miramonte but doesn’t look like there’s another team left it could lose to.

Helix’s loss to Chaparral (AZ) isn’t looking too bad at the moment… Chap played national power Chandler tough and is ranked #4 in AZ according to maxpreps. I think Helix is gonna run away with the SD open and is probably a top 5 team in Socal when it’s all said and done
