Presented by ATHLETETRAX, this week’s best focuses more on the running backs as Isaiah Ortega-Dage of Shadow Hills and Greg Sprague of Apple Valley break loose for totals that make the single-game state record book. Trey Naahas, Noah Magana and Moby Contreras also close out huge regular seasons with 300-yard games.

Thanks to Paul Muyskens, Harold Abend, Ronnie Flores and CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett for contributing items this week. This honor roll is for games played from Nov. 6 to Nov. 8.

PASSING

Clayton Welch (Chico)
Our NorCal Offensive Player of the Week passed for 438 yards and four touchdowns while rushing for two more scores during a 43-22 win over Shasta of Redding. His passing total is good for the fourth best single-game performance in Northern Section history but does not make the state record book. Welch and his team earned the No. 2 seed in the Division I section playoffs behind defending champion Enterprise.

Miles Fallin (Canyon, Canyon Country)
The records were nearly Fallin as this sophomore led the Cowboys past West Ranch of Valencia 58-27. He completed 15 of his 23 pass attempts for 425 yards and five touchdowns.

Jorge Amaya (Hawkins, Los Angeles)
A week after nearly setting the state record for passing yards in a game with 739, Amaya stayed hot as he completed 21 of his 27 pass attempts for 403 yards and three touchdowns during a 40-27 win over Rancho Dominguez of Long Beach. Sophomore Greg Johnson had another huge outing as well with 162 yards and three TDs in receiving plus 186 yards rushing.

Ryder Ruiz (Bishop Amat, La Puente)
If you remember the Lancers when Rio Ruiz was starring for them in baseball and football, the Ryder’s emergence shouldn’t be a surprise. Rio’s younger brother helped Amat move up to No. 13 in our state rankings earlier this week with a 38-24 win over Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks for a share of the Mission League championship. Ruiz passed for 398 yards and three touchdowns.

Jonathan Saavedra (Santa Clarita Christian, San Juan Capistrano)
Throwing the ball 58 times during a 54-40 win over Santa Clarita Christian of Canyon Country, he completed 34 of his pass attempts for 382 yards and five touchdowns. Saavedra’s pass attempts and completions are good enough for the state record book. He already had been listed for yardage from earlier in the season. Teammate Cameron Lewis also had a strong outing with 10 catches for 153 yards and four of the five TDs. If you are not a Gold Club member and want to see the single-game state record lists, CLICK HERE.

Zach Silva (Pioneer, San Jose)
Since losing the first game of the season to Valley Christian of San Jose 55-0, the Mustangs have won nine in a row after a 55-35 win over Leigh of San Jose. Silva has been critical to the run. Against the Longhorns, he passed for 378 yards and five touchdowns.

Julius Davila (Chavez, Stockton)
It was a wild shootout between Chavez and crosstown Stagg and the Titans fell short 55-44 despite the efforts of Davila. The senior QB ended 20 of 29 for 370 yards and four TDs. He also ran for a score and directed an offense that had 529 yards.

Blake Barnett (Santiago, Corona)
B.B. was throwing bullets to lead Santiago past Roosevelt of Eastvale 38-24. The Alabama-bound standout ended with 367 yards passing and had four TDs.

Dalton Gallis (Kern Valley, Lake Isabella)
He had a career high in three categories by passing for 364 yards and was 29 of 46 for the game, as the Broncs improved to 10-0 with a 29-0 shutout of Bishop. Gallis also pushed his four-year career total over 6,300 yards. Wide receiver Sammie Adams had 11 receptions for 205 yards and one score and kicker Zach Bushling had three field goals and was 2-for-2 on PATs for a career-high of 11 kicking points.

Brady White (Hart, Newhall)
Before throwing a pair of fourth-quarter interceptions that aided in Hart’s 28-27 loss to Valencia, the Arizona State-bound White was having a great night. He finished 20 of 28 for 347 yards and three TDs and had a 14-yard scoring run.

Sam Metcalf (Farmersville)
The Central Section standout threw for seven touchdowns for the fourth time in his career in a 49-7 triumph against McFarland and now has 140 for his career. Metcalf was 12 of 16 for 308 yards and teammate wide receiver Joseph De La Cruz had five receptions for 150 yards and four touchdowns. According to Central Section historian Bob Barnett, De La Cruz also set a new regular season record for yards in a season with 1,643 and also tied a section record with two other players with 23 touchdown catches in nine games.

William Floyd (Rocklin)
A junior who has stepped up after the season-ending injury to senior Max O’Rourke, he led the Thunder to a 44-21 win over Nevada Union of Grass Valley with 306 yards passing and five touchdowns.

Austin D’Ambra (Menlo School, Atherton)
A season-long passing leader in the CCS, D’Ambra connected on 24 of 42 passes for 300 yards and three TDs but it wasn’t enough in a 27-21 loss to Sequoia of Redwood City.

Mitch Daniels (Concord)
Yes, there is a category in the state record book for best perfect passing in a game and Daniels is now high on it after he went 16-for-16 for 291 yards and six TDs in Concord’s 54-0 romp past Ygnacio Valley of Concord. If you are not a Gold Club member and want to see the single-game state record list, CLICK HERE.

Jake Browning (Folsom)
Just another quiet night at the office for this senior as he passed for 276 yards and six touchdowns in his final regular season game to lead the Bulldogs past Woodcreek of Roseville 71-7. Folsom led 63-0 at halftime. Browning finished the regular season with 3,507 passing yards and 56 touchdowns. His pace has actually slowed for yardage in recent weeks with Folsom doing more in its run game.

Eric Barriere (La Habra)
Setting a school-record with seven touchdown passes, he completed 12 of his 19 passes for 221 yards while also rushing for 54 yards on 11 carries as the Highlanders (7-3) defeated Sonora of La Habra 56-26 for their 40th straight league victory.

P.J. Hurst (Palisades, Pacific Palisades)
He only threw 10 passes in the Dolphins’ 61-7 victory against L.A. Fairfax but hit on nine of them for 263 yards and five TDs. Hurst also ran for a score.

RUSHING

Desert Hot Springs had to feel like they were trying to tackle shadows last Friday night. Ortega-Dage rampaged for 442 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries during a 52-14 win for the Knights. His total makes it into our on-line state record book and ties him with Orlando Wallace of Cathedral City for the single-game state high for the season. Greg Sprague (Apple Valley)
Outscoring Sultana of Hesperia on his own, he rushed for 416 yards and five touchdowns on just 15 carries during a 69-14 win by the Sun Devils. Sprague’s name also is going to be added to the single-game state record list. If you want to see that and are not a Gold Club member, CLICK HERE.

Raymond Caldera (Oxnard)
While also a linebacker on the Yellowjacket defense, it was Caldera’s performance on the offensive side of the ball that stung its way to our attention when Oxnard beat Pacifica of Oxnard 41-21 to end Pacifica’s hopes for an unbeaten season and get the team the Pacific View League title. Caldera rushed for a season-high 373 yards and four touchdowns on 38 carries and finished the regular season with 1,946 yards rushing and 27 touchdowns.

Noah Magana (Santa Paula)
Ending the regular season the same way he started it, Magana rushed for over 300 yards with 335 and three touchdowns on 27 carries during a 44-15 win over Santa Clara of Oxnard. It was the third time this season he rushed for over 300 yards in a game, including 367 and six TDs in the season opener.

Mark Sharp (Crean Lutheran, Irvine)
Rushing for 225 yards on 17 carries, the most surprising thing about his performance in a 77-41 win over Sage Hill of Newport Beach might be the fact that he didn’t score, especially in such a high-scoring contest.

Michael Roots (Burbank, Sacramento)
Making it seem like he was planted in the end zone, Roots scored on half of his carries in a 61-0 win over Kennedy of Sacramento. He rushed 10 times for 208 yards and five touchdowns as the Titans finished undefeated in Metro Conference play once again.

George Sammon (St. Vincent de Paul, Petaluma)
