CIF STATE BOWL GAME DIVISIONS RANKINGS UPDATES
(Ninth rankings of the regular season)

DIVISION I SOUTH
1.  St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 8-1
2. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 8-1
3.  Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 7-2
4. Centennial (Corona) 7-2
5. Oceanside 9-0
6. Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 8-1

DIVISION I NORTH
1.  De La Salle (Concord) 9-0
2.  Folsom 9-0
3. Grant (Sacramento) 9-0
4. Milpitas 9-0
5. Foothill (Pleasanton) 8-1
6. Serra (San Mateo) 5-3

DIVISION II SOUTH
1. St. Francis (La Canada) 9-0
2. Redlands East Valley (Redlands) 8-1
3. La Mirada 8-1
4. Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 8-1
5. Heritage (Menifee) 9-0

DIVISION II NORTH
1. Clayton Valley (Concord) 9-0
2. Los Gatos 6-2*
3. Concord 7-1**
4. Enterprise (Redding) 8-1
*Despite its loss to Milpitas, indications are still strong that Los Gatos may be placed into the CCS Open Division playoffs and therefore would be considered D1 North for the bowl games. We will continue to rank Los Gatos in D2 North until that happens.
**Does not include forfeit win.

DIVISION III SOUTH
1. El Capitan (Lakeside) 9-0
2. Lompoc 9-0
3. Paso Robles 9-0
4. Newbury Park 7-2

DIVISION III NORTH
1. Campolindo (Moraga) 9-0
2. Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton) 8-0*
3. Sutter 9-0
4. Sonora 9-1
*Since Burlingame also is still unbeaten and Sacred Heart Prep has yet to play that team, it’s still more of an unknown whether the Gators will win their league and then qualify for the CCS Open Division (thus making them ineligible for D3 North). At this point, however, and barring a huge upset, Palma of Salinas (listed previously in D3 North) is going to win its league title and will be in the CCS Open Division. We have therefore moved Palma out of the D3 North bowl rankings and have inserted the Chieftains this week at No. 12 in D1 North.

DIVISION IV SOUTH
1. Christian (El Cajon) 9-0
2. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 9-0
3. St. Margaret’s (SJ Capistrano) 9-0

DIVISION IV NORTH
1. Central Catholic (Modesto) 7-2
2. McClymonds (Oakland) 8-0
3. Capital Christian (Sacramento) 9-0
Note: McClymonds may have to forfeit games due to an ineligible player. If that happens, the Warriors could still win the Oakland Section title and become eligible for the CIF D4 bowl game. However, section commissioners rarely vote for a team with forfeit losses (ask Vista Murrieta down south). Even if it was a team that McClymonds beat on the field (example: Salesian of Richmond), the commissioners would look at the forfeit win for Salesian instead of the on-the-field win for the Warriors. At least that’s how they’ve tended to vote over the years.

Foothill beats a one win Granada team by seven points. How do they move up three spots in the state rankings based on that?

      Posted November 3, 2014 at 4:08 pm | Permalink

They move ahead of Serra in the Bay Area after Serra lost and it’s a good week to put them ahead of Servite and Orange Lutheran. Their loss to DLS was at least comparable to Servite’s and they were just playing well enough to win. If those others hadn’t lost and there was another team coming up from behind that had a big win then it could have been a week when Foothill dropped for only beating Granada by seven points. That just wasn’t the case this week.

Mark, with all due respect your D1 Bay Area bias is in question.
State ranking on most computer rankings: Foothill (36), Milpitas(45),Serra(55).
Granite Bay ranks #24 now and is being overlooked.

There’s only one computer ranking and we don’t care what those are. We go more by local rankings such as Sac Bee, East Bay prep writers, etc. because they are people that tend to actually see the teams play. Both Granite Bay and Jesuit are indeed coming up with 63-0 slaughters on their resume to Folsom and DLS respectively. Jesuit probably has the best chance to get ranked in the State 25 first because it is playing Grant this Saturday and with a win would probably be next up from the SJS. If Jesuit loses and Granite Bay keeps winning, then Granite Bay is next.

I would like to say that Lavance Warren of Mack is the REAL DEAL!!! He rushed for over 2200 yds and 28 tds last year and he’s on that pace again! I’m NOT understanding why he’s not on any of your player rankings? Not to mention he runs a 10.7 in 100 meters.

Even without Kevin Davidson Mack is a top DIV contender. With Warren and a stingy defense(5 division I players). I’m sure they could compete with some DI and DII schools!

I heard Warren just picked up an offer from Sacramento State?

Yes he did! He is my godson I know I’m a little bais but as a former DI athlete, coach and football guru. He is a tough as nails!!! I know his size has been a factor but you can NEVER measure a mans heart. Probably one of the best RB’s I seen in the Bay Area in the last 10 years(Before him Marshawn Lynch). As a matter of fact Marshawn has validated his uniqueness!!! I’m just saying give the kid his do credit. Already has 1487 yds and 18 td’s(2 receiving) through 8 games

With all due respect to Davidson, I’ve always felt a big part of his success was the awesome running game of Mack with Warren and their big line leading the way. It’s not the size of the dog in the fight…..it’s the size of the fight in the dog…….

I absolutely agree… All of the games Mack has played the opponent has made a heavy emphasis to stop the run. So without Davidson it has been more intense and LV (Lavance) has still continued to shine. He is a BALLER!!!

What do you think will be the match up for division 2 north? Will enterprise get in if they win out? What are the odds?

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted November 4, 2014 at 9:00 am | Permalink

Enterprise’s odds are getting better because it’s looking like there will not be an unbeaten team on the board from the Sac-Joaquin Section in D3 and also because Los Gatos is going to probably get jumped up to the CCS Open Division. We will know more when the CCS Open Division is settled because there probably will be a strong team from the WCAL that won’t be in it and will be in CCS D1 and remember that the CCS D1 champion also would be under consideration for the NorCal D2 bowl game. If it’s a WCAL team with three losses or more, I doubt if the commissioners would vote for that team. It also will help Enterprise’s cause if Vacaville doesn’t go out early in the SJS playoffs.

Wing T does not cut it at the state level! The Tigers don’t have size or coaches to handle SoCal teams.

A lot of it also depends on how Monterey Trail (beat Inderkum by 2) and Vacaville (beat Enterprise by 22) do the rest of the way. If Oakdale beats Central Catholic on Friday and then you have Oakdale, Sierra and Manteca all in that SJS D3 bracket and Inderkum smokes the field then yes I do see it’s possible for Inderkum to jump Enterprise. Don’t know if our rankings would have it that way, but it is possible. Could be a close call either way.

Best team in SoCal goes to Open game automatically along with same from Norcal (DLS). No longer are the two best teams in each half of the state playing each other for a change at a state game.

  7. Polk High 1956
    Posted November 4, 2014 at 1:39 pm | Permalink

jtillery, you are now an official member of NOMAAM! Nor Cal is a little more clearer than SoCal since the best teams are in the PAC 5. Who will play in the SoCal Division one regional?

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted November 4, 2014 at 2:26 pm | Permalink

Right now, considering San Diego Open Division, L.A. City D1, Central Section D1 and CIFSS West Valley Division, Oceanside and Bakersfield would be the two highest ranked teams in those divisions. Both have to win section titles of course. If Oceanside doesn’t and Helix or Cathedral Catholic does, then that team seems pretty safe to go to the D1 South bowl game. Having a loss to a Central Section team (Liberty) is going to hurt Mission Viejo if it were to win the West Valley Division, but Upland or Chino Hills could conceivably end up with strong arguments at the end.
