There won’t be a change at the top of the rankings next week, but there will be plenty of moves to make after No. 5 Alemany goes down to Bishop Amat. Other huge weekend winners include No. 7 Oceanside, No. 9 JSerra, No. 23 Serra of Gardena and No. 24 Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks and Valley Christian of San Jose.

1. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 5-1
After leading 21-10 at halftime, the Braves needed to recover a late fumble and convert a key first down to hold off No. 3 Mater Dei 28-25. Many around Southern California had Mater Dei higher in various rankings. We didn’t and obviously will be continuing with Bosco on the top of the Cal-Hi Sports State 25 until the Braves lose to another California team. For recap, CLICK HERE.

2. DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 7-0
Anthony Sweeney threw for three TDs and Andrew Hernandez had TD runs of 28 and 67 yards before both sat out the second half in 51-7 win to cap four-game slate held over two days at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara. DLS will be in its bye week coming up. For recap, CLICK HERE.

3. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 5-1
The narrow margin of defeat in the 28-25 loss to No. 1 St. John Bosco may be enough to keep the Monarchs at No. 3 in the state. It’s not like they don’t have any more tough games coming up. For recap, CLICK HERE.

4. FOLSOM 7-0
It was another romp for the Bulldogs as they overwhelmed Nevada Union of Grass Valley 63-6. It could be a battle of unbeatens in two weeks, however, against Rocklin.

5. ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 5-1
Following the euphoric high of the big win over Chaminade, the Warriors crashed hard in a 47-20 loss to Bishop Amat, which will now have to zoom up in the rankings despite losses to Chino Hills and Gardena Serra.

6. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 4-2
By Husky standards, the 41-9 triumph against M.L. King of Riverside was ho-hum. They won’t yet go in front of Mater Dei in the rankings due to a head-to-head loss but should go up one spot due to Alemany’s upset.

7. OCEANSIDE 6-0
According to a tweet from his proud papa, QB Matt Romero hit on 12 of 17 for 232 yards and four TDs and also rushed for 51 yards to lead the Pirates past No. 11 Mission Hills 42-16. For those wondering if there’s a possible strong opponent for Folsom in a CIF D1 state bowl game, this could be the one.

8. SERVITE (ANAHEIM) 4-2
The Friars led 20-0 in the early going only to see No. 12 Lutheran of Orange tie it up at 25-25 late in the fourth quarter. Instead of folding, however, Servite made the big plays in the final minute and won 31-25.

9. JSERRA (SJ CAPISTRANO) 6-0
With a 35-28 win over No. 17 Santa Margarita (Rancho SM), the Lions remained undefeated as Edward Vander rushed for 123 yards and two touchdowns, both in the fourth quarter, and Nick Robinson passed for 132 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for 102 yards.

10. LONG BEACH POLY (LONG BEACH) 6-1
It wasn’t 99-9 like last week against Compton, but the domination was similar as the Jackrabbits rolled another Moore League foe, Jordan of Long Beach, by a 51-10 count.

11. MISSION HILLS (SAN MARCOS) 4-2
After the Grizzlies lost to Oceanside on Friday 42-16, at the minimum they probably have to drop below Cathedral Catholic in the San Diego and SoCal rankings and we’ve been reluctant to put Cathedral Catholic that high with a 55-10 loss to Folsom.

12. LUTHERAN (ORANGE) 4-2
Both of the Lancers’ losses this season are in games they easily could have won right at the end, including Friday’s 31-25 defeat to No. 8 Servite.

13. GRANT (SACRAMENTO) 6-0
It wasn’t long ago when a Grant-Pleasant Grove game was huge. On Friday, it was just another Pacers’ romp as they routed the Eagles 56-7.

14. CHAMINADE (WEST HILLS) 5-2
After winning 13 straight extending back to last season, the Eagles fell to 0-2 in the Mission League with a 41-38 loss to No. 24 Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks.

15. EDISON (FRESNO) 6-0
It was a step up in competition for 5-0 San Joaquin Memorial and the Tigers showed why with a 44-14 victory. The next big game to look for involving Edison is on Halloween against Madera, which also could still be undefeated.

16. BAKERSFIELD 5-1
There was little doubt that the Drillers would pick up their fifth win of the season as they defeated a short-handed Garces of Bakersfield 51-0.

17. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SM) 4-2
K.J. Costello passed for 284 yards and two touchdowns and the Eagles led 14-0 in the second quarter but they got outscored 35-14 the rest of the way in a 35-28 final against undefeated No. 9 JSerra of San Juan Capistrano.

18. WESTLAKE (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 4-2
Grant Bunker had three touchdown passes and also rushed for a score just in the first half in a 52-3 win against Paraclete of Lancaster. The Warriors led 31-0 at halftime.

19. FOOTHILL (PLEASANTON) 6-0
The Falcons defeated Monte Vista of Danville 41-7 as they opened up a 21-0 lead by halftime and 41-0 by the end of the third quarter. We’ll probably see them for ourselves in next week’s game against California of San Ramon (a 2013 CIF North Coast Section Division I finalist).

20. CRESPI (ENCINO) 5-1
The Celts’ dreams of an undefeated season came to an end with a 21-20 loss to No. 23 Serra of Gardena. Marvell Tell caught a late touchdown pass to get them within one point with 29 seconds left. Then, after a successful two-point conversion was nullified by a penalty, they missed the game-tying extra point attempt.

21. CHINO HILLS 5-1
Opening up Baseline League play against Rancho Cucamonga, the Huskies dominated rushing the ball as Grady O’Donnell had 153 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries while the Huskies as a team rushed for 352 yards during the 35-7 win.

22. BELLARMINE PREP (SAN JOSE) 4-1
Coach Mike Janda’s team played Saturday at Valley Christian of San Jose and was overwhelmed by Valley Christian of San Jose 42-17. Since Valley Christian already has a loss to Milpitas, this result also will be a big benefit for Milpitas to get into the next State 25. For recap, CLICK HERE.

23. SERRA (GARDENA) 5-2
There were momentum swings galore in the final seconds of the Cavs’ 21-20 win over previously undefeated No. 20 Crespi of Encino. They allowed a touchdown in the final minute and a two-point conversion right after but a flag nullified the two-points and then the Celts ended up missing the extra-point attempt.

24. NOTRE DAME (SHERMAN OAKS) 5-1
Cole Klayman connected with C.J. Sanders on a 10-yard slant for the game-winning touchdown in the final minute of the game for a 41-38 road win over No. 14 Chaminade of West Hills.

25. SERRA (SAN MATEO) 3-2
No longer needed to play quarterback, Leki Nunn had a big night as a running back as he carried the ball 16 times for 207 yards and three touchdowns during a 32-20 win over St. Ignatius of San Francisco.

Sound like your gut feeling is Pirates vs Bulldods in a D1 state bowl
Could possibly happen if we take care of business. The Pirates are very well coached and their leader at QB is night n day from last season. I remember last season everyone dogging him on here but I stood by him anyways. I would love to see Oside back at Home Depot center for 3rd appeRance.

Romero has really stepped up this year… Last year he was the weakness and this year he is by far the strength. I’m really happy for the kid

How does Sutter not make it into this ranking?

Do we know if Sutter is even the best overall team in the CIF Northern Section? Enterprise didn’t exactly go anywhere and has lost only to Vacaville. Hear that Sutter’s freshmen team, which hasn’t lost since fourth grade, is going to travel to Concord to play De La Salle’s freshmen on Thursday. Gotta love ’em for doing that.
