Game of the night is another zany affair between No. 6 Long Beach Poly and No. 25 Orange Lutheran won 18-16 by the Jackrabbits. Mater Dei, St. Bonaventure and Servite are three other big winners.

RELATED POST: CCS Pairings Reaction

1. (1) De La Salle (Concord) 10-0
Did not play. The Spartans received a first-round bye in the CIF North Coast Section Division I playoffs. They had a bye last year, too, then finished 15-0.

2. (2) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 11-0
Defeated Agoura (Agoura Hills) 69-24. Anybody who suggests that now the Braves should be moved ahead of De La Salle because they have one more win is an idiot. If you already thought they should be higher for other reasons, we don’t think you’re an idiot but we disagree.

3. (3) Folsom 11-0
Defeated Lincoln (Stockton) 50-13. For some reason, the Bulldogs went for a fake PAT after their third TD and then the holder threw for a two-point conversion.

4. (4) Serra (Gardena) 11-0
Defeated Pacifica (Oxnard) 48-16. The Cavs will probably cakewalk their way to the CIFSS Western Division final for a rematch against Chaminade.

5. (5) Mission Viejo 11-0
Defeated Crespi (Encino) 45-0. The Diablos were up 38-0 at halftime against a foe that was pretty competitive in the Serra League. Don’t think St. John Bosco could have done it any easier.

6. (6) Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 10-1
Defeated No. 25 Orange Lutheran (Orange) 18-16. The Jackrabbits survived our pick of upset alert and move on to play St. Bonaventure. After getting the win against first strong opponent in two months, iron will sharpen iron and we believe Poly will play much better from here on out.

7. (10) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 9-1
LOST on Saturday to No. 17 Serra (San Mateo) 31-7. RECAP.

8. (18) Alemany (Mission Hills) 9-2
Defeated Lakewood 48-29. The Warriors move on to face Servite in the CIFSS Pac-5 quarterfinals. Remember when the two played in 2010 semifinals when both were 12-0.

9. (14) Centennial (Corona) 9-2
Defeated Etiwanda 56-23. Up next for the Huskies is Chaparral of Temecula in the CIFSS Inland Division quarterfinals.

10. (8) Chaminade (West Hills) 9-2
Defeated Morningside (Inglewood) 71-8. Since Serra loss, the Eagles have scored 64, 73, 56 and now 71.

11. (11) Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 10-1
Defeated Napa 31-7. Napa actually had the ball for the entire first quarter and scored early in the second quarter to cap a 23-play drive. After that, soph QB Ian Book and the Trojans just buckled down and had no problem.

12. (13) Eastlake (Chula Vista) 10-1
Defeated Poway 41-7. The Titans will play No. 20 Oceanside next in a very attractive San Diego Open Division semifinal.

13. (22) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 9-2
Defeated No. 22 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 28-17. After their solid regular season finale against Orange Lutheran, the Monarchs step up again. They get Mission Viejo next in CIFSS Pac-5 quarters.

14. (20) Mission Hills (San Marcos) 10-1
Defeated Steele Canyon (Spring Valley) 56-35. Coach Chris Hauser’s team plays Helix next in the San Diego Section Open Division semifinals.

15. (19) Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 7-4
Lost to St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 35-21. The Knights beat Oaks Christian by one point in the first round of the Pac-5 bracket last year, but don’t get past team from the same league this time.

16. (21) Del Oro (Loomis) 9-2
Defeated River Valley (Yuba City) 63-9. The Golden Eagles will play Whitney of Rocklin next in the SJS D2 quarterfinals.

17. (25) Serra (San Mateo) 8-2
Defeated No. 7 Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 31-7 on Saturday at home. RECAP.

18 (NR) Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 10-1
Defeated Los Osos (Rancho Cucamonga) 57-14. The Broncos play Charter Oak of Covina in next game and will be looking to advance to the CIFSS Inland Division semis.

19. (15) Bakersfield 8-2
Did not play. Drillers had a first-round bye in the Central Section Division I playoffs. They are the top seed.

20. (NR) Oceanside 9-2
Defeated Torrey Pines (San Diego) 35-0. The Pirate defense has been lights out in recent weeks.

21. (NR) Westlake (Westlake Village) 8-3
Lost to Servite (Anaheim) 42-21. The Friars were only 5-5, but obviously one of the best 5-5 teams in the nation and will be back in the top 25 next week.

22. (9) Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 8-3
LOST to No. 13 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 28-17. Mater Dei is a worthy foe, but another 8-3 season in Brandon Dawkins’ senior year is probably not what the Lions had in mind.

23. (NR) La Habra 10-1
Defeated Canyon (Anaheim) 42-21. The Highlanders move on in the CIFSS Southeast Division playoffs. They get Newport Harbor next week.

24. (NR) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 10-0
Did not play. The Wildcats have a first-round bye in the North Coast Section Division III playoffs.

25. (24) Lutheran (Orange) 7-4
LOST to No. 6 Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 18-16. The Lancers played their hearts out in a tough loss. They may have to drop out from next week’s top 25 to make room for others still going, but their overall season will probably enable them to move back up once some of those other teams lose.

Wondering how you rank teams that are 6-4 or even a team on a bubble at 7-4, when you have a team like Hilmar that is 11-0? They’ve beat teams thst are well established. Plus it seems like the central valley gets no love from you guys. How do we get Hilmar on your map?

I can’t think of any small schools that are 6-4 or 6-5 that are close to being ranked above Hilmar so I guess you talking about top 25 overall. We don’t have Central Catholic (which has lost only to St. Mary’s) or any other D3 school that high except Marin Catholic (No. 2 overall in the Bay Area by some sources) so don’t see how Hilmar would be in that company.

Generally, though, a team like Servite of Anaheim can be ranked at 6-5 because all of its losses or almost all are to teams ranked higher and there’s also at least one quality win we can point to. For Servite, its losses are to De La Salle, St. John Bosco, Mater Dei, Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas and JSerra. The JSerra loss isn’t good, but that’s overcome by wins over Long Beach Poly, Orange Lutheran and Westlake. And if Servite beats Alemany this week and Mater Dei beats Mission Viejo, we will have no problem with a 7-5 team being in the top 10.

Do you have a small school rank and a large school ranking?

No, it’s not broken into two like that. We will have a D4 and D5 traditional final state ranking for small schools that will come out after all of the bowl games. This is because not all of the D3 schools in the CIF bowls are really small schools. Some have 2,000 enrollment or more.
