FB: Green Bay Packers’ Californians

It was reported in the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel on Tuesday that one-fifth of the Green Bay Packers’ roster this season is from California. The team’s wealth of California players is led, of course, by quarterback Aaron Rodgers from Pleasant Valley of Chico while on defense it’s linebacker Clay Matthews Jr. from Agoura of Agoura Hills.

Feature writer Lori Nickel called our Stockton office last Friday for an interview and used much of the information and quotes for her story.

Rookies Johnathan Franklin and Datone Jones, who are both from UCLA and Southern California high schools (RB Franklin from Dorsey of Los Angeles and DE Jones from Compton), hope to be the latest Packers’ standouts from the Golden State.

Another key starter for Green Bay when it comes to Candlestick Park on Sunday to play the San Francisco 49ers will be left tackle David Bakhtiari, a rookie from Colorado and a graduate from Serra of San Mateo.
