State Stat Stars of the Week

Junior pitcher Lindsey Chalmers, third-sacker Kwyn Cooper and senior first-base girl Katelyn Linford are the heart and soul of California of San Ramon’s softball team. The Grizzlies currently leads the East Bay Athletic League at 8-0 and may make some big noise in the upcoming CIF North Coast Section Division I playoffs.

There weren’t really any record book entries we could find, but a bunch of stat standouts as we head towards the home stretch of the baseball and softball season. These weekly highlights support growth of the Cal-Hi Sports State Record Book & Almanac. 

We collect these weekly highlights in support of the Cal-Hi Sports State Record Book & Almanac, which is the exclusive home for state records and has been published seven times since 1980. Baseball

Justin Giovanonni (Linden)
He was nearly perfect in the Lions’ 10-0 six-inning win over Argonaut, allowing just one hit while striking out 10 and walking none.

Tre Holly (Edison, Fresno)
He was perfect at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a home run, triple and a career high five RBIs in a 12-9 win over Madera South in a County/Metro League game.

Tyler Jones (Hoover, Fresno)
He had three hits, all going for doubles to tie a school record, as Hoover beat Sunnyside of Fresno 7-4 in a North Yosemite League game.

Jassen Oliver (Liberty, Bakersfield)
Liberty’s launcher hit his first grand slam and had a career high five RBIs in a 8-3 win over Frontier of Bakersfield in a Southwest League game.

Jacob Payne (Granada)
It was another week and another team feeling the pain of his outstanding pitching for the undefeated Matadors. Payne struck out 10 during a 5-0 win over Livermore.

Nick Pedrucci & Nate Verlin (Lincoln, Stockton)
Making his first start of the season earlier this week, Nick pitched a no-hitter as the Trojans defeated Franklin of Stockton 13-0. It has been a good month for the Verlin family, as Nate’s father Ron was named the head men’s basketball coach at the University of the Pacific in Stockton. Meanwhile, Nate hit two triples and a home run while driving in five runs in the win over the Yellowjackets.

Drake Salwasser (Washington Union, Fresno)
He set a school record by hitting three triples and had three RBIs as Washington Union edged Liberty of Madera Ranchos 6-4 in a North Sequoia League game.

Softball

Cassandra Akers (Camarillo)
This sophomore slugger drove in six during the Scorpions’ 7-4 win over Oxnard. Akers stepped up to the plate and hit a three-run home run in the first inning and then cleared the bases in the fifth inning with a three-run double.

Madalyn Arambula (Independence, Bakersfield)
She had three hits for the game and a career high six RBIs in a 15-2 win over Bakersfield.

Lindsey Chalmers (California, San Ramon) 
Sometimes putting up big numbers against weak competition is not as impressive as going out and taking care of business against top-notch teams. That’s exactly what this long-legged, right-handed pitcher did the past two weeks. Her performances are the biggest reason the Grizzlies have broken back into the state rankings this week at No. 17. Since a loss to Elk Grove Pleasant Grove at the Livermore Stampede in a game she was not in the circle, the Cal Poly-committed junior has won six consecutive games in the tough East Bay Athletic League. After giving up one run in a 4-1 victory over Livermore to begin the streak, Chalmers has delivered five straight shutouts, including a five-hitter with seven strikeouts, in a 1-0 victory last week over an Amador Valley (Pleasanton) team that at the time was No. 6 in the state. On Thursday, with the Cal-Hi Sports Caravan on hand to watch the action, Chalmers delivered a three-hitter and fanned eight in a 4-0 victory over Danville Monte Vista. “It was awesome. Words can’t describe it,” said Chalmers about beating Amador Valley.

Hayley Chamberlain (Camarillo)
With a nearly perfect week at the plate, this University of Houston-bound shortstop went 12-for-13 with five runs batted in and scored nine runs during the Scorpions’ four wins. She was named Ventura County Star Athlete of the Week.

Destinee Emerson (St. Bonaventure, Ventura)
Pitching a five-inning no-hitter, Emerson also homered twice during St. Bonnie’s 17-0 win over Villanova Prep.

Bayleigh Heineman (North, Bakersfield)
Set two school records a few weeks ago by collecting five hits and nine RBIs in a non-league game against Arvin. North won 29-1.

Anneliese Lopez (Buena, Ventura)
Despite the game lasting just five innings, Lopez made sure her three at bats counted in a big way. She had two home runs and drove in four during Buena’s 13-0 win over Ventura in Channel League play. Teammate Leanna Georges went 4-for-4 with three triples in a 10-0 win over Ventura.

Miranda Magana (Santa Paula)
Her magnificient hitting led the way during a 15-4 win over Grace Brethren of Simi Valley as Magana went 4-for-5 with two triples and a home run while driving in seven runs.

Dani Marrietta (La Reina, Thousand Oaks)
As if pitching a complete game and striking out 15 wasn’t enough, Marrietta also went 3-for-3 at the plate in a 3-1 win over Santa Clara of Oxnard.

Marjani Knighten (Sunny Hills, Fullerton)
M.J. went 3-for-3 with three home runs and five RBIs in a 13-0 Freeway League triumph on the road versus Buena Park.

Emily Oestreich (Vintage, Napa)
One of the biggest reasons the Crushers are 23-0 and ranked No. 10 in the state is because of this sophomore right-handed pitcher who has the same record as the team. Her last three games have been shutouts, giving her eight this season. First, in a 4-0 blanking of crosstown arch rival Napa, Oestreich tossed a one-hitter with 10 strikeouts. She came back with another one-hitter with seven fanned in an 8-0 victory over Vacaville Wood. She then tossed a two-hitter with 10 strikeouts in a 1-0 squeaker over Vacaville.

Amanda Paredes (Thousand Oaks)
Ending up two outs shy of a no-hitter, Parades wasn’t too upset with a one-hitter. To top it off, she also hit the game-winning three-run home run in that 3-0 win over Royal of Simi Valley. She leads the team with five home runs and 22 runs batted in.

Frankie Perales (Willow Glen, San Jose)
The CIF Central Coast Section batting leader with a .750 average was 6-for-7 in her last three games, all victories. Perales had a home run, two triples, five RBIs and five runs scored in that span.

Morgan Ratliff (Wilcox, Santa Clara)
Not only did she pitch a no-hitter, but Ratliff had four hits and drove in five runs during an 11-0 win over Santa Clara of Oxnard.

Marissa Rendon (Fowler)
Hit a grand slam and went 3-for-4 at the plate and had a personal high of six RBIs in a 16-2 win over Parlier.

Anisha Richardson (Kimball, Tracy)
In a game played earlier this week, Richardson led the Jaguars’ offensive attack as she went 5-for-5 with two home runs and two doubles while driving in six runs during a 29-8 win over Manteca.

Ashley Weiler (Livermore)
To go along with her three hits at the plate, Weiler pitched a perfect game in the circle and struck out 14 during a 7-0 win over Carondelet of Concord.

Hailey Witt (Garces, Bakersfield)
She went 3-for-4 at the plate, good for a personal high of six RBIs, in a 15-0 shutout win over East Bakersfield.
