This third of three groups of nominees is from the CIF Southern Section. Check inside to see how to send in a nomination on your own. Coming later this week: State Coach of the Year.

Note: The first post of Cal-Hi Sports all-state football nominees were players from the CIF Central Coast, North Coast, Northern, Oakland, San Francisco and Sac-Joaquin sections. The second post consisted of those from the CIF Central, Los Angeles and San Diego sections.

By no means are these meant to be all-inclusive lists of every possible all-state player in California. We encourage and welcome input from all users of our site and will be releasing a second, even more complete, updated list of nominees prior to when the teams are actually chosen and released.

Please do not wait until after all of the teams are announced to complain about a selection. We will consider players even if they are not added or are not currently shown on these lists.

Please send any nomination with each athlete’s height, weight, position, year in school, significant statistics. Comparing a player not on the board yet to one who already is can be very important toward eventual selection. Limit each nomination to one page please. Send to: markjtennis@gmail.com or FAX (209) 463-1219 or call (209) 463-9050.

The format we will continue to use is to honor a 30-player overall all-state first team with 30 more on second team. Each first team player is written up. There also are 30 for medium schools (Div. III traditional state rankings division) and 30 for small schools (Div. IV and Div. V traditional state rankings divisions). We often get enough information to include second teams for all divisions as well.

Don’t assume we know all there is to know about a player on the list, either. Send us info to make sure all pertinent information is turned in and placed into our files.

With thanks to assistant editor Paul Muyskens, here are the current nominations from the CIF Southern Section on our board for the various 2012 Cal-Hi Sports all-state football teams (an updated list of nominees will be posted in two weeks several days before the teams are chosen and announced):

Kicker Grif Amies from Corona del Mar of Newport Beach tied the Cal-Hi Sports state record by making 22 field goals.

I agree with adding Nick Ponzio from Great Oak HS to the state football nominations. Big, huge, strong offensive and defensive lineman. Never comes off the field, tackles harder then anyone I know. Nobody can block him and nobody gets by him. He’s a beast.
