Girls of Summer: Loss spurs Cal Stars

A first game loss in pool play doesn’t prevent the Cal Stars AAU team, which has two State Players of the Year in the lineup, from rolling to a national title earlier this week in South Carolina. The girls ended their season at 54-1 with their only loss coming to another California team.

Girls of Summer: San Diego wrap

St. Mary’s of Stockton four-peats in style in the 3A Division with 21-point win in final over La Jolla Country Day. Bishop’s falls in third-place game to team from the Northwest, but Clovis West wins in fifth-place contest over a different team from the Northwest. Metro San Jose also finishes second in 2A Division.

San Diego Classic: Halfway done

No real surprises at San Diego Classic midway point, but there were some entertaining pool play division finals, especially Pinewood vs. Mission Hills and La Jolla Country Day vs. Clovis West. Look for a full Girls of Summer report from all of the action in this event early next week.

Girls of Summer: First stop in tour

Annual tour of key California summer events for girls basketball begins with a stop at Stockton Summer Classic hosted by Stockton Lincoln coach Chris Roemer. Short-handed St. Mary’s still way too talented for rest of the field in the Platinum Division but other players from other schools also impress.

Top 15 Ballroom Beauties

As a continuation of the Cal-Hi Sports Girls of Summer basketball caravan, here are writeups of the top 15 girls we saw at the Ballin’ in the Ballroom event that ended last week in Las Vegas. Four of the 15 are from one school. Bradshaw Christian & Vista Murrieta also score well.
