NEW Boys BB Division State Ranks
For this version, after this week’s regional semis are done, we have taken all of the Open Division teams and have ranked them separately. We also have top 10 lists for all five CIF divisions plus we have predicted scores for all 12 of this Saturday’s regional championship games. To see a preview of Saturday’s...
Super Tuesday: Regional Semis
We wish the CIF would continue to separate the Open Division games with the other divisions in its regional/state playoffs, but everybody played in Tuesday’s semifinals (other than two teams) and we break down what happened in the Open Division and in Division I.
SoCal/NorCal Players of the Week
If you haven’t figured it out yet, we try to avoid picking players for this honor that are obvious (like Jake Browning in football or this week with Tyler Dorsey and Katie Lou Samuelson in basketball) and instead try to dig deeper for younger players or less well-known players who happen to be making a […]
New State 20 Boys BB (Expanded)
The regional playoffs are now underway and there are three newcomers to the State Top 20, led by Torrey Pines. Serra of San Mateo crashes the rankings party for the first time and Sacramento is back in after a one-week hiatus. If you are not a Gold Club member and cannot see this post, please...
Boys, Girls BB State Rank Updates
As the regional playoffs head to the semifinals, there is hardly any change for the first 10 teams in the State Top 20s, but after that there are plenty. Boys newcomers are Torrey Pines, San Mateo Serra and Sacramento while for the girls it’s Clovis West, Ventura and Dublin.
Open Division Openers
Shocker of the night was the margin of victory by Serra of San Mateo boys over state No. 12 Moreau Catholic of Hayward. We have recaps of Folsom-El Cerrito and Bishop Montgomery-St. Augustine plus breakdowns of the two regional boys and girls divisions.
State Stat Stars of the Week
For the first time, baseball and softball players get into the stat stars act. They join some of the best from boys and girls hoops still going strong, such as Stefan Mitu of Danville Monte Vista, Aarion McDonald of Stockton Brookside Christian and Jaimoni Welch-Coleman of Berkeley.
NorCal/SoCal Players of the Week
Just like we did during the football season, we are going to do our best to spread around these honors as much as possible with one boy and one girl chosen from each region. This week’s best are from San Francisco, Fairfield, San Diego and Anaheim.
Bracket Breakdowns (Open)
We went 16-for-16 in recommending teams for the NorCal and SoCal Open Division boys basketball playoffs, including Foothills Christian of El Cajon. Bishop O’Dowd and Bishop Montgomery, meanwhile, grabbed the No. 1 seeds in the Open Division. For the girls, The NorCal Open Division could have been picked in a number of different ways after […]
