When the very first Cal-Hi Sports state football rankings were compiled in the late 1970s by founder Nelson Tennis, they were done in five divisions (Class AAAA, etc.) and they were done with more of an eye on school enrollments. At the end of each season, we continue the tradition, but they are now much more based on competitive equity and which CIF section and state playoff divisions teams are in. We have 75 teams ranked in this package.
