Baseball Schools of Century (So Far)

Players from Chatsworth celebrate after winning 2008 CIF L.A. City Section championship at Dodger Stadium. The Chancellors won a few of those since 2000. Photo: chatsworthhs.org.

Going by a points system based on final state top 20 rankings since the 1999-2000 school year and matching previous posts for schools of the century (so far) and girls basketball, here’s the list for baseball. The top four probably would be the ones most people might guess with the leader being Chatsworth. The Chancellors of 2004 also would be the Team of the Century (so far) in baseball as well. Buchanan of Clovis, De La Salle of Concord and Rancho Bernardo of San Diego round out that top group.

This is a post for Gold Club members only on CalHiSports.com. All of our annual preseason all-section, all-county and all-region football teams are being delayed in getting done until we’re more certain when the next season is going to start. Once done, all of those posts will be for Gold Club members only, but we’ll still have plenty of free content to check out. Not to mention, we’ve just put all of our football, baseball, girls basketball and boys basketball state records onto the site for Gold Club members. Note: We have been compiling final state rankings for baseball in California since well before the start of the 21st century. The state top 20 as part of those final rankings have been done since 1989. For the purposes of this content, we went through all of those final rankings since 2000 and have awarded points for the following: six for State Team of the Year, five for No. 2, four for No. 3, three for No. 4 and No. 5, two for top 10 and one for top 20. For the extremely shortened 2020 season, there was no team of the year. There were final rankings based on games that were played and an adjusted credit of points was awarded — three for No. 1, two for teams we had in the top seven and one for the rest of the top 20.
