All-State Football Nominees (NorCal)

O.J. Bartley from Edison of Stockton (left) was a bruising defensive lineman who also was the 9-2 team’s short-yardage power running back. At right is wide receiver/multi-purpose Troy Franklin from Menlo-Atherton of Atherton, who is one of the top Class of 2021 recruits in the nation. Photos: Mark Tennis & Willie Eashman.

Here are the first, free-to-see nominations lists from the CIF Central Coast Section, CIF North Coast Section, CIF Northern Section, CIF Sac-Joaquin Section plus San Francisco & Oakland. We always start the selection process for our annual all-state teams, this year will be the 41st annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams, by doing nominations and welcome any and all input. It’s become a great way for us not only to collect additional nominees, but to learn so much more about many of the players. Separate, all-state nominations also are coming soon for the CIF Central Section, CIF L.A. City Section and CIF San Diego Section (Part 2) and the CIF Southern Section (Part 3).

Note: Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football content that will be for Gold Club members include second, final list of nominees plus second team, third team overall and All-State Juniors & Sophomores. The free posts will be first team overall and first team small schools and medium schools. If you can’t see this post and want to check out all of our rankings content, all of our all-state content and state record updates, you can check it out for just $3.99 to cover a one-month subscription. For info, CLICK HERE.

Please send any nomination with each athlete’s height, weight, position, year in school, significant statistics. Comparing a player not on the board yet to one who already is also can be very important toward eventual selection. Limit each nomination to one page please. Send to: markjtennis@gmail.com or call (209) 608-1317. Text messages to that number are okay as well.

The format we will continue to use is to honor a 30-player overall all-state first team with 30 more on second team. Each first team player is written up. There also are 30 for medium schools and 30 for small schools and yes we are struggling with what’s medium and what’s small with competitive equity. All that is certain is that players from large, public high schools will not be considered “small school.”

Don’t assume we know all there is to know about a player on the list, either. Send us info to make sure all pertinent information is turned in and placed into our files.

Special thanks for the work done on these nomination lists to Northern California correspondent Daniel Poulter. He’s a great follow on Twitter and did great work for us on our State Top 50 rankings packages this season. Check him out at @DanielJPoulter.

We’re the ones who picked that, but for the first run-through saw the all-BVAL team and just went the players listed there.
He’ll be added and considered for every all-state team he can be on.

Div 3 in Sac-San Joaquin is a complete black and blue division. Small schools like El Camino competed against Capitol Christian. With a second year head coach, nominations did not get out this year to the Bee for All Metro or anywhere else. El Camino had beast in the Safety, LB, RB, and LT positions this year, heavily over shadowed by opponents on schedule 7 playoff teams including VDL and Cap. Head coach JP Dolliver is doing a good job with this team.

Anyone can nominate players from El Camino and it’s still not too late. And why the Bee now requires players to be nominated for someone to get selected is ridiculous. You’re telling me two guys can’t check through just one half of the SJS and make sure everyone who should be considered is considered can’t happen? We don’t have a policy like that and we cover the entire state. If we miss someone, it’s usually for multiple reasons other than someone not being nominated.

Zach Fink from Bear River High school had 18 sacks from the nose guard position, also blocked a couple field goals and was a game changer. But I am biased. We had a changing of the guard on stats so nothing got put online. https://www.hudl.com/video/3/8073611/5e0b3cde5ef70711788020b9

Chase Laubach is only a junior, however he had key runs and one of the top running backs at Valley Christian. He needs to be nominated for an All State Selection, as well as a preseason All State Selection for 2020.

I would like to nominate my son Raider Vreonis LB/FB for the Antioch Panthers in the NCS section Taiser has been in the Top 5 tacklers in the BVAL the last two years. And a varsity player for the last four . with that being said raider broke his left leg frosh year in his first high School basketball game the tub/fib on a questionable hustle play vs Foothill high school after a long hard road to recovery his sophomore he began looking like the athlete he is he found his mojo and began leading the way for the stable of backs Antioch high is known for and as the Panthers were getting ready to face the Freedom Falcons in the semi final game of NCS he broke his Right Tibia just below the knee on a freak accident as the panthers were bringing it in Some how his cleat caught the turfand snapped his right leg . So on the ability to come back and be named All BVAL his Jr and Senior year as well as 3rd team All East Ball leading Antioch in tackles and leading the panther Defense without missin a beat with being said the panthers lost 5 games by a total of 12 points Amador 25-21 California 14-12 San Ramon 10-9 Freedom 25-22 And Pitt 42 -41 I nominate Raider Breonis All State honors Top 3 backers in the North Hands down # 31 Raider Vreonis ….. that’s after Oakland not Las Vegas lol
