Saturday score added. The highest ranked team to lose didn’t lose on Friday but in a Thursday night contest in Orange County that saw No. 5 JSerra fall to No. 16 Servite. Then on Friday the biggest winners included No. 13 Cathedral Catholic roaring back in the fourth quarter to beat its arch-rivals from St. Augustine in the San Diego version of the Holy Bowl. No. 21 Liberty of Brentwood also fell in a showdown contest to Pittsburg.

THANKS TO NORTHERN CALIFORNIA CORRESPONDENT DANIEL POULTER FOR CONTRIBUTING TO THIS POST.

1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 8-0
Defeated Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 45-0. It seemed like the Monarchs were taking it easy on the Eagles, perhaps to save as much energy as possible for their mammoth matchup next Friday at No. 2 St. John Bosco. It also will No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the nation, which has also pretty much been the case for their first meeting of the season for the past three years.

2. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 8-0
Defeated No. 30 Lutheran (Orange) 63-6. One of the TDs came on a 81-yard TD pass from D.J. Uigalelei to Logan Loya, who previously played at Orange Lutheran.

3. De La Salle (Concord) 8-1
Defeated San Ramon Valley (Danville) 52-0. It was getting so routine for the Spartans that at one point the athletic department’s score update on Twitter simply said: +7 with the time remaining in the game. They have a bye next week and on Nov. 1 will close the regular season with a game against Clayton Valley (Concord).

4. Mission Viejo 8-0
Did not play. The Diablos had their bye week and will return next Friday to face No. 23 San Clemente for the South Coast League championship.

5. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 4-4
LOST on Thursday night 34-21 to No. 16 Servite (Anaheim) in Trinity League shakeup. Most preseason prognosticators had the Lions third in the league and most still had them third in the league behind Mater Dei and Bosco until this game.

6. Folsom 7-1
Defeated Granite Bay 56-10. Junior QB Ari Patu, who alternates with Jake Reithmeier at the position, rushed for several touchdowns, including one in which he stiff-armed a would-be tackler. The Bulldogs seem to be clicking better as the playoffs near.

7. Narbonne (Harbor City) 7-1
Defeated Gardena 58-6. Gauchos came off of their bye week with easy win. They close the regular season against Carson and then Banning.

8. Centennial (Corona) 6-2
Defeated Norco 61-23. It wasn’t close as the Huskies scored on just about every possession in routing the state No. 26 Cougars. They clinched another Big VIII League title and head coach Matt Logan reached 250 career wins in 23rd season.

9. Helix (La Mesa) 7-1
Defeated Grossmont (La Mesa) 54-14. In the annual game that determines which La Mesa school gets The Musket, it was a mauling for the CIF San Diego Section’s No. 1 team. Bad news broke after the game, though, that RB Elelyon Noa had surgery on foot and will be lost for rest of season.

10. Grace Brethren (Simi Valley) 8-0
Defeated Thousand Oaks 42-0 on Thursday night. Junior RB Julien Stokes continued to shine with three TDs as Lancers tuned up nicely for next week’s matchup vs. No. 28 Sierra Canyon.

11. Central (Fresno) 8-0
Defeated Clovis North (Fresno) 58-14. Grizzlies also won their 21st in a row in the TRAC. Clovis North came into this game 6-1.

12. Serra (San Mateo) 7-0
Defeated St. Francis (Mountain View) 35-21. Unlike last week vs. Mitty, the Padres didn’t face the same kind of upset bid. They were up 21-0 on three TD passes by Daylin McLemore in the first half.

13. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 8-1
Defeated No. 20 St. Augustine (San Diego) 35-14. Zavien Watson rushed for five touchdowns for the Dons, who actually trailed 14-12 entering fourth quarter, but got rolling for three straight scores.

14. Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 8-0
Defeated Fountain Valley 42-7 on Thursday. Sea Kings will face their rivals from Newport Harbor (Newport Beach) next Friday.

The Helix of La Mesa team kept the Musket on Friday but Delshawn Traylor picked up a t-shirt as well for being player of the game. Photo: @SDFNLMagazine / Twitter.com.

15. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 7-1
Defeated Serra (Gardena) 20-13. A go-ahead score in the second half came on a Damien Moore TD run. Serra played the Lancers tough as an 0-2 team in the Mission League and got QB Doug Brumfield back from injury. Lancers will try to lock down league title next week at home vs. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks).

16. Servite (Anaheim) 5-3
Defeated No. 5 JSerra (SJ Capistrano) 34-21. After losing to Bosco by one point and then getting routed by Mater Dei, the Friars and their young core (including soph QB Noah Fifita) made a statement. Their other loss was to Bishop Gorman of Las Vegas at Gorman. How high to move them up on Monday?

17. Calabasas 6-2
Defeated Newbury Park 66-7. Lamont Narcisse helped break it open for the Coyotes as he took back and interception for a score to make it 18-0.

18. Valley Christian (San Jose) 7-0
Defeated Archbishop Riordan (San Francisco) 44-6. Warriors will take on Bellarmine next week and then it will the matchup at Serra (San Mateo) on Saturday, Nov. 1.

19. Alemany (Mission Hills) 6-1
Defeated Chaminade (West Hills) 35-28 OT. The Warriors scored a touchdown with 12 seconds left in regulation but still needed a two-point conversion to force overtime. They got it and won it on a gutsy fourth down and 15 touchdown pass from Miller Moss to Kevin Green Jr. Chaminade couldn’t respond in its overtime series.

20. St. Augustine (San Diego) 6-2
LOST to No. 13 Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 35-14. Byron Cardwell scored for the Saints on an 80-yard run on the second play of the game, but they only had one more score the rest of the night.

21. Liberty (Brentwood) 7-1
LOST to No. 32 Pittsburg 24-21 in OT. This time, the Lions couldn’t pull out another OT win. Remember, they won an OT game in September over Clayton Valley at the Honor Bowl.

22. La Habra 6-2
Defeated Sunny Hills (Fullerton) 49-7. Ryan Zanelli passed for five TDs, with three of them going to big-time DB/WR recruit Clark Phillips.

23. San Clemente 8-1
Defeated Capistrano Valley (Mission Viejo) 36-14. Team’s only loss is to Corona del Mar. Playing No. 4 Mission Viejo next week.

24. Upland 6-2*
Defeated Etiwanda 42-10. Two losses by forfeit not included. Win vs. Rancho Verde. Losses to La Habra and Mission Viejo.

25. Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley) 7-1
Defeated Valley View (Moreno Valley) 28-14. Head coach Pete Duffy’s club will end the regular season vs Paloma Valley and Heritage. Only loss to Upland. Win over Norco.

TEAMS ON THE BUBBLE

Our book was published one year ago and was written so that almost all chapters are timeless. Now available on Amazon.com for less than $10.

Buchanan (Clovis) 5-3
Defeated Clovis 27-20. Sophomore QB Ian Kirby has stepped up since injury to D.J. Stevenson.

Camarillo 8-0
Defeated Moorpark 42-14. The Scorpions have Thousand Oaks next (projected easy win) and then play No. 10 Grace Brethren (both should be 9-0).

Carlsbad 7-1
Defeated El Camino (Oceanside) 28-14. Only loss to Lawndale.

Culver City 8-0
Defeated El Segundo 42-9. No. 1 team in state for what we consider medium schools.

Inderkum (Sacramento) 7-0
Defeated Antelope 35-20. The Tigers had some difficulty with the Titans last year as well.

Lawndale 5-3
Defeated Santa Monica 35-0. Losses to Sierra Canyon, Culver City and Narbonne. Win over Carlsbad.

Liberty (Bakersfield) 7-1
Defeated Stockdale (Bakersfield) 38-14.

Lutheran (Orange) 4-4
LOST to No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 63-6.

Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 7-1
Defeated Great Oak (Temecula) 35-14. Better news for Nighthawks is that Chaparral and Vista Murrieta both lost.

Norco 6-2
LOST to No. 8 Centennial (Corona) 61-23.

Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 5-2*
Defeated Whitney (Rocklin) 26-14. Trojans prevailed in matchup of two promising junior QBs — Justin Lamson (Oak Ridge) and Eli Brickhandler (Whitney).

Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 4-4
Defeated St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 48-13 on Saturday. Lions led 41-0 at half. They face No. 17 Calabasas next. Could be very dangerous squad if they are in the CIFSS D2 playoffs (which seems pretty likely at this point).

Pittsburg 6-1
Defeated No. 21 Liberty (Brentwood) 24-21 OT. A field goal and then defense won it for Pirates, but key was QB Santino Chavez replacing injured QB Jerry Johnson and getting game-tying TD pass late in the fourth quarter. Only loss Serra (San Mateo).

Rancho Cucamonga 6-2
Defeated Damien (La Verne) 46-14. Forfeit loss to Etiwanda not included.

Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 7-1
Defeated San Pedro 40-7. Only loss by team to Oaks Christian. DJ Harvey had more than 200 yards receiving, one TD.

Steele Canyon (Spring Valley) 8-0
Defeated Valhalla (El Cajon) 49-7. This team should be 9-0 when it plays No. 9 Helix in two weeks.

Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 5-3
LOST to Temecula Valley (Temecula) 20-17. It’s officially a mess in the Southwestern League. Vista Murrieta, Chaparral of Temecula and Murrieta Valley have all had big losses after big wins in the last three weeks.

Wilcox (Santa Clara) 6-2
Defeated Milpitas 49-21. As expected after they got past Los Gatos so easily two weeks ago, the Warriors have not had much of a test n the Santa Clara Valley Athletic League De Anza Division.

Does Pittsburg Pirates makes the top 30 as they beat no 20 Liberty Lions maybe in top 25 like 2 years ago.

Probably not top 25. Can be ahead of Norco (26), Orange Lutheran (30) and Culver City (31) next week but will have to wait for some other big games to be played out like San Clemente vs Mission, Upland vs Rancho Cucamonga and those involving Oaks Christian and Sierra Canyon.

Perhaps, but I think assuming Pittsburg could keep a close game with Orange Lutheran let alone beat them I’m afraid is fantasy. BUT, that is what makes your job so tough Mark. Just because a team plays all monsters and loses doesn’t keep them ahead of teams that win. Just no blueprint for side by side comparisons. Thanks and keep up the great work!

Thanks for posting. True, there’s no blueprint, but we’re not sitting around looking at computer printouts. I go to games to see teams play and have seen Pitt and do think they would keep a close game with OLu. We trade notes with others who also see teams play in person. Would say first four in Trinity League are better than anybody in the north (not counting Fresno) outside of DLS, Folsom and probably even Serra SM and Valley Christian. OLu is a step below but still in 25-30 range where Pitt and Liberty sit.

I am just curious as to why Piner High School in Santa Rosa is rated so low in polls. They have a dominant year and should be rated higher. I know it takes a win against some good teams to get in the top 25, but at least a mention would work.
