Public School No. 1 Teams In State

Corona Centennial’s football program has been the gold standard for public schools in California in recent years, although Folsom and Mission Viejo are not far behind. Photo: centennialhuskyfootball.com.

Centennial of Corona would be No. 1 in this category for the last four straight California high school football seasons and is the last public school to be State Team of the Year (11 years ago). Folsom would be No. 1 twice since 2010 and would be runner-up to Centennial the past two seasons. We’ve gone through our files and now have a Public School State Team of the Year for every season since 1970. It would be too much to do separate public-private school state rankings every week, but there is a growing desire to recognize public schools who are still trying to compete with the super-sized, transfer-infused private schools.

Note: This is a post for Gold Club members only. All State Top 50 rankings posts for the rest of the season also will be for Gold Club members only. The first run-through of CIF state bowl game projections will be free as well as our first weekly State Medium Schools and State Small Schools Rankings (out in two weeks), but the rest of those will be Gold Club as well. You can now sign up this season for $3.99 per month or $9.99 for three months, which by the way will carry you through most of the current season. Yearly rate of just 6.8 cents per day also can be done. For details, CLICK HERE.
