More State Boys Athletes of the Year

State Frosh Athlete of the Year Luke Potter (left) of La Costa Canyon (Carlsbad) can just about be officially called a golf phenom. At right is State Junior Athlete of the Year Jamar Marshall from St. Mary’s (Stockton). He’s already one of the best prep hurdlers in U.S. history and was one of the top junior point guards in Northern California basketball. We have uncovered some of the most unique athletes we’ve ever selected in the more than 30 years of doing these honors, including a world-class track hurdler who is an elite point guard in basketball and the No. 2 ranked junior golfer in the nation who was a leading player on a basketball team that won 29 games. We also were able to get both of our top two grid-hoopers this year onto the athlete of the year lists since they qualified in separate divisions. Sports represented in this year’s honors are football, track, basketball, golf and wrestling.
