Wednesday, Jan. 30 (Girls)
Colfax 53, Center (Antelope) 34

For the first quarter anyway, the visiting Falcons got a challenge from the Cougars but they pulled away in the second quarter and beyond and maintained their dominant position in the Pioneer Valley League. Colfax started this week at 8-0 in league and 22-3 overall and is looking like a contender for the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D4 title. Against Center, junior center Grace Bliss continued not to miss and finished with a game-high 20 points to go with nine rebounds and four steals. Jazzy Owens also had another solid outing wit 16 points, five rebounds and four steals. Center (6-2 in league, 13-9 overall entering this week) didn’t have any double-figure scorers but Hannah Boone grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds to go with eight points.
Center student Andrew Cowell also deserves some kudos since he is the one who put together the Fantag video highlights for this game. To see what Andrew came up with, CLICK HERE.

Friday, Feb. 1 (Boys)
Vanden (Fairfield) 59, Wood (Vacaville) 44

What a bizarre fourth quarter there was in this game as the two teams were tied at 43-43 at the end of three and it looking like a fantastic finish was guaranteed. In that fourth quarter, though, Wood went completely cold and could only muster one free throw while Vanden — and emerging junior guard Teiano Hardee — kept on the pressure and never let up in scoring 16 points. Hardee, who came within two points of tying the Vanden single-game school record of 45 points in his previous outing vs. Vacaville, scored 32 points against the Wildcats. Vanden avenged an earlier loss to Wood and in winning this game forced a tie atop the Monticello Empire League with one more week to go in the regular season. The Vikings improved to 18-7 overall while the Wildcats fell to 19-6. They were led by Landon Seaman with 15 points and Ricky Holland with 12.
