State Top 25 Weekend Scoreboard

San Clemente parties like it’s 1999 after its upset win on Friday over state No. 8 Mission Viejo. One of those moving up in next week’s rankings because of that upset will be state No. 11 Liberty of Brentwood, which earned showdown win against No. 17 Pittsburg and is now in line to win its first-ever Bay Valley Athletic League championship. Two of these teams also scored 80 and 75 points, respectively, in other Friday contests.

Note: Look for a brand new State Top 50 set of football rankings that won’t simply be a list on Monday. *Indicates forfeit result not included.

1. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 9-0
Defeated No. 30 Santa Margarita (Rancho SM) 49-14. There was no letdown for the Braves following their big win last Saturday over previous No. 1 Mater Dei.

2. Centennial (Corona) 9-0
Defeated M.L. King (Riverside) 80-0. This surpasses a previous 78-0 win in league play for the Huskies, who had four-star junior prospect Gary Bryant take a punt for a touchdown in the contest.

Sophomore QB Dorian Hale scored twice for De La Salle in easy triumph vs. San Ramon Valley. Photo: dlsspartans.org.

3. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 8-1*
Defeated No. 6 JSerra (SJ Capistrano) 42-7. It was a very strong bounceback outing for the Monarchs after their loss from last Saturday to St. John Bosco. The bad news was injuries, including a season-ender to junior offensive line leader Myles Murao.

4. De La Salle (Concord) 9-0
Defeated San Ramon Valley (Danville) 48-14. Head coach Justin Alumbaugh’s squad still steaming toward top seed in CIF North Coast Section Open Division. Based on what happened at Pittsburg, though, the Spartans probably won’t be the only 10-0 team in that bracket.

5. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 9-0
Defeated No. 13 Calabasas 21-13. Zach Charbonnet had the game-clinching interception. The athlete also had 196 rushing yards on 25 carries for three touchdowns.

6. JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 7-2
LOST 42-7 to No. 2 Mater Dei (Santa Ana). QB Caden Bell had a nifty 38-yard TD run to get the Lions on the board, but they were squelched the rest of the night by the Monarchs.

7. Folsom 8-1
Defeated Grant (Sacramento) 53-7. It was another seven touchdown evening for senior quarterback Kaiden Bennett. Folsom’s little one-week stay at No. 7 is over and it will be back to No. 6 next week.

8. Mission Viejo 8-1*
LOST to No. 47 San Clemente 21-20. The Diablos scored on a fourth-down play with 3:05 left when Joey Yellen passed 23 yards to Akili Arnold. An ensuing two-point conversion, however, was stopped. San Clemente topped Mission Viejo for the first time since 1999 and is now in line to win South Coast League title.

9. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 7-2*
Defeated Loyola (Los Angeles) 41-7. By all intents and purposes, the senior-heavy Lancers have wrapped up the Mission League title. Let’s just say they were not the preseason favorites.

10. Central (Fresno) 9-0
Defeated Clovis West (Fresno) 75-7. The most impressive result for the Grizzlies, however, is still what they did to Buchanan of Clovis (42-24) one week after Buchanan only lost to De La Salle 31-24.

11. Liberty (Brentwood) 9-0
Defeated No. 17 Pittsburg 24-21. Major college prospect Sione Vaki caught two TD passes from junior standout Jay Butterfield and then at the end of the game he stymied the Pirates with two interceptions on defense. Liberty is now in great shape to win school’s first-ever Bay Valley Athletic League title, but has won league titles before. Head coach Ryan Partridge’s squad also is in line to be the No. 2 seed behind De La Salle in NCS Open Division.

12. St. Francis (Mountain View) 7-1
Defeated Bellarmine Prep (San Jose) 28-0. Thomas Whitenight scored on runs of 8 and 57 yards to lead the Lancers, who got another shutout from one of the top defenses in the state.

13. Calabasas 7-2
LOST to No. 5 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 21-13. With 30 seconds left in the game and the Coyotes down by eight, Mycah Pittman of the Coyotes broke into the clear for a few moments on a punt return that gave everyone a jolt. He was tackled near midfield and the Oaks Chrstian defense eventually held to secure the win.

14. Torrey Pines (San Diego) 8-0
Defeated Oceanside 71-41. Mac Bingham had eight touchdowns for Torrey Pines, which ties a reported San Diego Section record. The state record of 11 is held by a player from a San Diego Section school (Coronado) but that was before the SD Section existed.

15. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 7-1*
Did not play due to Lincoln (San Diego) forfeiting the contest. In the last two weeks, the Dons have played a total of two quarters of action since their previous game vs. Christian of El Cajon was halted due to weather.

16. Narbonne (Harbor City) 6-3
Defeated Gardena 62-0 and were up at halftime 49-0. The more pressing question in the CIF L.A. City Section is which team is going to be seeded second in the Open Division and which one eventually will finish second and thereby qualify for a CIF SoCal regional final.

17. Pittsburg 6-3
LOST to No. 11 Liberty (Brentwood) 24-21. Jack Lacy rushed for two TDs in the second half as the Pirates came back from a 17-7 deficit that easily could have been 24-7 at halftime. They played without QB Trey Turner (clavicle) and in the early going lost RB Premier Murphy (knee). Best guess among those in the media at the game is that Pitt will still be in the NCS Open Division, but probably as a No. 4 seed and therefore a probable matchup with De La Salle on Nov. 9.

18. Lutheran (Orange) 5-4
Defeated No. 23 Servite (Anaheim) 28-20. This game really got going in the second half after Servite was ahead by only 7-0 at the break.

19. Villa Park 8-1*
Defeated El Modena (Orange) 63-0 on Thursday. It was homecoming night for the Spartans and they also got to play in front of the Orange County Register’s Dan Albano, who compared them to some of the other top teams in the county.

20. Del Oro (Loomis) 9-0
Defeated Rocklin 20-13. Second straight week the Golden Eagles have struggled. Showdown with No. 7 Folsom is next week in Loomis.

21. Upland 8-1
Defeated Chino Hills 42-32. The Highlanders will face Rancho Cucamonga next week for the Baseline League crown.

22. Buchanan (Clovis) 7-2
Defeated Clovis East (Clovis) 41-14. It’s just about a lock for the Bears to be the No. 2 seed in the CIF Central Section D1 playoffs behind Central of Fresno.

23. Servite (Anaheim) 4-4*
LOST to No. 18 Lutheran (Orange) 28-20. A one-score loss to a higher ranked team and still owning a win over Norco probably isn’t going to drop the Friars in the next rankings.

24. Norco 7-2
Defeated Roosevelt (Eastvale) 51-7. Watch out for the Cougars in the CIFSS Division 2 playoffs.

25. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 7-2
Defeated Great Oak (Temecula) 51-0. The Broncos will play Murrieta Valley next week for the Southwestern League title. Murrietta Valley QB Hank Bachmeier needs just one TD pass to break CIFSS career record of 152 set last year by Mater Dei’s JT Daniels.

Read this article! I STILL can’t believe after everything this kid has done, no major recruitment has happened for him. And don’t tell me it’s the height. 3 of the top 10 recruited quarterbacks are 5′ 11. Trent Tompkins is a BEAST and Central is for REAL….
