Sac-Joaquin Section Top 5: DBs

We are happy to announce that for the fifth straight year the CalHiSports.com web site and Cal-Hi Sports will be part of the weekly Final Quarter high school football show on Friday nights on the FOX 40 station in Sacramento.

On last week’s show, we revealed our picks for the Top 5 defensive backs in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section. Here is what that countdown revealed:

1. Isaiah Rutherford (Jesuit)
Just a junior, he has offers from Alabama and Notre Dame as a cover corner and also had 700 yards rushing on offense prior to Jesuit’s win over Sheldon of Sacramento.

2. Tre Jenkins (St. Mary’s, Stockton)
Top returning player from last year’s top team in the section has D1 offers and also is great receiver. He’s the son of former University of Washington standout Aaron Jenkins.

3. Davion Ross (Inderkum)
His team seems to have someone on all of these lists. Ross recently had three interceptions in one game. Also is one of the Tigers’ top running backs.

4. Justin Poerio (Oak Ridge)
Versatile player who also kicks and catches passes, Justin had five interceptions for Trojans last season and had four so far this year prior to game vs. Granite Bay.

5. Kane Rodgers (Sonora)
Called the top returning player in the Modesto area by the Modesto Bee prior to the season, he has 15 career interceptions.

Polls also will once again be conducted on the FOX 40 website for the Papa Murphy’s Fan Favorite Game of the Week. The 30-minute show is twice a long as any other Friday night high school football show in the Sacramento market.

Watch this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights, plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be a look at the top five players in section history for career touchdown receptions. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region, including the Fan Favorite game of the week. Thanks to host Jim Crandell and the FOX 40 team for once again letting Cal-Hi Sports be part of this year’s show.
