Week 11 Top 25 Weekend Scoreboard

It was rivalry week for many teams across the state on Friday and one of the biggest winners was State No. 24 Heritage, which won the Menifee Bowl, 35-13, over previously unbeaten Paloma Valley. The Heritage JV and frosh teams also ended 10-0. Photo: Twitter.com.

It was a strong week for the Top 25 since the only ranked team to lose was No. 10 Monte Vista and the Mustangs lost to No. 8 De La Salle. There was even just one close game in the bunch, which took place in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section where No. 17 Folsom held off bubble team Oak Ridge of El Dorado Hills 17-16.

Here is a look at scores through Saturday night, Nov. 5. Check back Monday for new rankings. Thanks to Paul Muyskens for looking up info on many of these teams. Check back Monday for new state rankings.

1. Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 10-0
Defeated JSerra (San Juan Capistrano) 59-7. J.T. Daniels rifled six more TD passes, but highlight of night may have been 51-yard field goal just before halftime by Chase McGrath.

2. Centennial (Corona) 9-1
Defeated M.L. King (Riverside) 52-7 on Thursday night. Two-time defending CIFSS highest division champs look ready for new, even tougher D1 bracket.

3. St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 8-2
Defeated Lutheran (Orange) 47-28. Hard to see CIFSS D1 bracket being anything except the Braves as No. 3 seed behind Mater Dei and Centennial but ahead of Mission Viejo.

4. Mission Viejo 10-0
Defeated San Clemente 41-3. Diablos won 38th straight game and completed another romp through the South Coast League.

5. Rancho Cucamonga 10-0
Defeated Chino Hills 52-7. This win put the Cougars at 10-0 for the first time in school history. Amazing to think they will likely play Mission Viejo as early as the CIFSS D1 quarterfinals.

6. Narbonne (Harbor City) 10-0
Defeated Banning (Wilmington) 66-7. The L.A. City Section Division I playoff favorites were leading the Pilots 52-0 at halftime.

7. Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) 10-0
Defeated Madison (San Diego) 31-7. The Warhawks, who some have had No. 2 in San Diego, led 7-3 before the onslaught began. We’ve had Helix No. 2 in SD for a long time and the Highlanders definitely gave CC a much tougher game than either Madison or St. Augustine.

8. De La Salle (Concord) 9-1
Defeated No. 10 Monte Vista (Danville) 45-17. Despite the score, there were some tense moments for the improving Spartans. Kairee Robinson had TD runs of 8, 43, 78 and 25 yards while Abel Ordaz had TD runs of 37 and 16.

9. Serra (Gardena) 7-3
Defeated Alemany (Mission Hills) 35-24. The Cavaliers came off their bye week and were down 10-7 early before rallying and clinching outright Mission League crown.

10. Monte Vista (Danville) 9-1
LOST to No. 8 De La Salle (Concord) 45-17. An 89-yard TD pass from Jake Haener to Isaiah Randle gave the Mustangs some hope late in the third quarter. The loss, and margin, however, may force NCS to drop them out of the four-team NCS Open Division bracket.

11. Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 8-2
Defeated Murrieta Mesa (Murrieta) 56-21. The Nighthawks won first outright Southwestern League title since 2002.

12. Calabasas 10-0
Defeated Moorpark 42-35. It was almost a big upset, but a fourth-down pass into the end zone late in the game by Moorpark that could have tied the score was dropped.

13. Freedom (Oakley) 10-0
Defeated Liberty (Brentwood) 47-7. The Falcons won the Bell Game over their rivals and likely locked up No. 2 seed in NCS Open Division behind De La Salle.

14. Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 8-2
Defeated Westlake (Westlake Village) 52-14. Matt Corral reportedly passed for 300 yards for the Lions, who have lost only to Murrieta Valley and have a win over Chaminade.

15. St. Mary’s (Stockton) 9-1
Defeated Lincoln (Stockton) 69-13. You have to go back to 2008 to find the last time Lincoln has a win over the Rams. They were chosen for the No. 2 seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D1 playoffs on Saturday behind four-time defending champ Folsom.

16. Helix (La Mesa) 7-2
Defeated Valhalla (El Cajon) 40-13. One of the TDs by Valhalla, which was 8-1 coming in, came on a blocked punt return. The last TD also came as the clock expired.

17. Folsom 9-1
Defeated Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 17-16. This game decided the Sierra Foothill League title and came over an Oak Ridge team that almost cracked the State Top 25 this week. Folsom also has been given No. 1 seed in SJS D1 playoffs ahead of No. 15 St. Mary’s.

18. Clayton Valley (Concord) 9-1
Defeated Campolindo (Moraga) 50-15. In a game to decide the Diablo Valley League title it wasn’t close as the Ugly Eagles won with a running clock in the fourth quarter. Thomas Alatini rushed for over 100 yards and two touchdowns while James Teofilo also rushed for two scores.

19. Pittsburg 9-1
Defeated Antioch 61-35 on Saturday. Montaz Thompson ran for five TDs. Seems to be an impressive enough outing to lift Pirates into NCS Open Division ahead of either Clayton Valley or Monte Vista, but it’s a close call.

20. Cathedral (Los Angeles) 9-0
Defeated Harvard-Westlake (North Hollywood) 56-0. Andrew Tovar had two touchdown passes on the night as multiple Phantoms’ running backs reached the end zone.

21. Bishop Amat (La Puente) 7-3
Did not play. Lancers had the week off after ending the regular season last week with their win over Chaminade.

22. Chaminade (West Hills) 7-3
Defeated Crespi (Encino) 63-7. It was a first half full of big plays as T.J. Pledger had touchdown runs of 70 and 90 yards in the first half. The Eagles led 49-0 at the break.

23. La Mirada 8-2
Defeated Mayfair (Lakewood) 63-13. The Matadores won their third straight league title in a surprising blowout as both teams entered at 5-0 on the year in league play.

24. Heritage (Menifee) 10-0
Defeated Paloma Valley (Menifee) 35-13. It was a game called the Menifee Bowl while the Sunbelt League championship was also on the line and the Patriots won in convincing fashion. Javier Luna not only rushed for 238 yards and two touchdown on 12 carries but he also forced two fumbles and recovered a fumble.

25. Rancho Bernardo (San Diego) 10-0
Defeated Poway 35-14. Winning their 19th straight game, Milan Grice led the way in the battle of two undefeated teams. He rushed for 137 yards and three touchdowns on 31 carries to help the Broncos capture the Palomar League title.

In your rankings the #13 team is the Freedom Falcons not Patriots who happens to be one of their biggest rivals. I am the grandmother of one of the players and would like to see it fixed. I am saving all of his clippings for a scrapbook!

It’s fixed. Bleary eyes at 2 a.m. You must be the QB’s grandma. Good player.

Forget about a team from the north beating De La Salle. They are rolling at the end of the season just like I predicted early. Their streak is likely to go on forever, it is that dominant. Teams like Servite, Antioch, etc. would not come within four touchdowns of them right now. Monte Vista was supposed to be a close game?

I apologize if this is a repeated question (tried to post earlier), but do you know why Pac 5 does not designate to be ‘open’? I feel the runner-up would be a lot more appropriate for the SoCal D1 game than a lower division. As many NorCal divisions seem to have the opportunity to have open runner up teams that are stronger than lower divisions move on to Bowl games.

There are aspects of that division that don’t qualify it to be “Open” mainly no process for teams outside of it to move up to become part of it, such a way that Calabasas for example could apply to get into it. I also just get the sense from talking to Rob Wigod and Thom Simmons over the years that the section kind of likes having its top bracket so significant and wouldn’t want to weaken that significance by having the loser of its top division continuing to play.
