Top 10 Baseball, Softball Ranks

Here’s a quick look at the top 10 teams that will be highlighted in this week’s new Cal-Hi Sports State Top 20 rankings for baseball and softball.

TOP 10 STATE
BASEBALL TEAMS

1. (2) Davis 12-0
Bottom of seventh win vs. Bear Creek (Stockton) is enough for move to the top with previous No. 1 Buchanan dropping game to Clovis North.

2. (3) Redondo Union (Redondo Beach) 15-0
Seahawks notched quality win last week vs. Cypress.

3. (1) Buchanan (Clovis) 17-1
Before losing to Clovis North, Bears won showdown over Clovis 2-1 with Grant Gambrell’s one-hitter.

4. (8) Lutheran (Orange) 11-2
Lancers didn’t play last week but move up due to many others taking losses.

5. (12) Jesuit (Carmichael) 9-2
Only losses to out-of-state teams and won last week vs. De La Salle.

6. (14) Huntington Beach 13-5
Wouldn’t have Oilers on top in SoCal, but L.A. Times does.

7. (5) Mira Costa (Manhattan Beach) 13-2
Sweep of El Segundo followed by loss to Westlake (Westlake Village).

8. (13) J.W. North (Riverside) 11-5
After week in which Huskies beat both JSerra and Orange Lutheran, they added win vs. Rancho Verde.

9. (15) El Camino Real (Woodland Hills) 15-4
Conquistadors have big series this week against Chatsworth.

10. (9) Serra (San Mateo) 12-3-1
Loss to Sacred Heart Cathedral diminished by earlier win last week vs. St. Francis.

TOP 10 STATE
SOFTBALL TEAMS

1. (1) Los Alamitos 14-1
Rain washed out games at Michelle Carew Classic, but Griffins won twice before that happened.

2. (2) Mission Viejo 12-2
Beat Roosevelt (Eastvale) & Lakewood at Carew until the wet weather arrived.

3. (4) Etiwanda 19-1
Moving homer happy Eagles back up one spot with only loss to Norco in one-run game.

4. (5) West Ranch (Valencia) 11-0
Unbeaten record to be tested in league matchups this week vs. Valencia and Hart.

5. (6) La Habra 16-1
Highlanders continue to benefit from winning Alan Dugard Classic.

6. (7) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 16-3
Win last week over Corona Santiago came after Sharks got win over Bishop Amat.

7. (18) Lutheran (Orange) 16-3
Win over Amador Valley at Carew vaults up Lancers.

8. (16) Alhambra (Martinez) 8-1
Won over previously unbeaten Foothill (Pleasanton) and previous No. 6 Archbishop Mitty at Livermore Stampede, another event hit hard by rain.

9. (3) Norco 11-3
Loss to Kennedy of La Palma at Carew drops back down the Cougars, who are young and may be like this all season.

10. (12) Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 16-0-1
Not greatest schedule, but unbeaten record and has D1 talent on roster.
