This is the first group of players who have been placed on our board to be considered for the 36th annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams and are all from the massive CIF Southern Section. We welcome additional nominees from parents, coaches and fans.

Note: Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football content that will be for Gold Club members include the second, updated and final set of all-state nominee lists, writeups for all players and lists of honorees below second team. If you want to check out all of our rankings content, all of our all-state content and state record updates, join our team today. For subscription info, CLICK HERE.

Attention young athletes: To check out info and to sign up for the first-ever Cal-Hi Sports/Gold Medal Excellence All-Sports Speed Camp coming up on Jan. 31 at Palisades High in Southern California, CLICK HERE. If you want to jump-start your off-season training schedule and help you run faster 40s at camps and combines, this event is a must for you.

This post represents the first step toward selection of the annual Cal-Hi Sports All-State Football Teams and it is for us to present lists of nominees that have been put up on our virtual board.

This first list is for the entire CIF Southern Section, which has more than 600 schools. The second one will be for the CIF Central Section, L.A. City Section and San Diego Section. The final post will be for the CIF sections in Northern California.

By no means are these meant to be all-inclusive lists of every possible all-state player in California. We encourage and welcome input from all users of our site and will be releasing a second, even more complete, updated list of nominees prior to when the teams are actually chosen and released.

Please send any nomination with each athlete’s height, weight, position, year in school, significant statistics. Comparing a player not on the board yet to one who already is can be very important toward eventual selection. Limit each nomination to one page please. Send to: markjtennis@gmail.com or FAX (209) 463-1219 or call (209) 463-9050.

The format we will continue to use is to honor a 30-player overall all-state first team with 30 more on second team. Each first team player is written up. There also are 30 for medium schools (Div. III traditional state rankings division) and 30 for small schools (Div. IV and Div. V traditional state rankings divisions). We often get enough information to include second teams for all divisions as well.

Don’t assume we know all there is to know about a player on the list, either. Send us info to make sure all pertinent information is turned in and placed into our files.

With appreciation to Stockton office assistant Paul Muyskens, here is a list of those currently on our board from the CIF Southern Section:

Among sophomores, he’s not under the radar at all. Everybody knows he’s one of the best in the state among sophs and maybe one of the best in the U.S. There’s just a lot of seniors on that MD defense that have to be considered higher for post-season honors right now.

Second, updated set of nominees will start to come out later this week. Actual teams probably not until Friday, Jan. 23. We have a lot of basketball stuff to do during MLK weekend.
