As a celebration of this week’s CIF state bowl games and one quarterback in particular concluding one of the greatest careers in state history, we have posted updated single-season totals for passing yards and TD passes.

Congratulations to the following quarterbacks from the 2014 California high school football season who have now been officially added to the Cal-Hi Sports state record lists for most passing yards in a season, most passing yards for a regular season, most TD passes in a season and most TD passes for a regular season:

There still could be one more after this weekend depending on how Jack Stephens from Campolindo of Moraga does in CIF D3 bowl game vs. El Capitan.

Since we have made a conscious decision to delete as few names as possible despite the huge increase of passing totals in recent years, some of these passing lists also now contain more than 200 entries.

Too bad the coaches at Folsom thought they had to pad a record by throwing against Grant last Friday in the 4th quarter, running clock, 5:40 remaining and a 46-7 lead. Makes you wonder a little bit about some of these records.

Jim, you must not have been paying too much attention. It was 3rd and like 30. Is Folsom supposed to just hand the ball over because they were ahead. And Grant got caught in a corner blitz and left him wide open. If Folsom wanted to pad stats, Browning could easily have 30+ more TDs this year, no idea how many for his HS career. He rarely played in the 2nd half, and when he did Folsom mostly ran the ball. They would also stop the up-tempo and burn the play clock to nearly zero. One play is not a reflection on the entire season.

Conner Miller of Brethren Christian in Huntington Beach passed for over 3200 yds and rushed for over 1000 yds. Truly a dual threat. It should also be noted he grabbed 6 interceptions on defense while only playing on D about half the time.
