With the end of the regular season, some very good teams did not qualify for the CIFSS Pac-5 Division playoffs and it’s time to drop almost all of those teams from the State 25. Newcomers are Chino Hills, Serra of San Mateo, St. Francis of La Canada, Clayton Valley and El Capitan. Campolindo, Central Catholic and El Cajon Christian also are on top in the CIF state bowl rankings.

2. Los Gatos 7-2*
3. Concord 8-1**
4. Enterprise (Redding) 9-1
5. Inderkum (Sacramento) 9-1
*Indications are still strong that Los Gatos will be placed into the CCS Open Division playoffs and therefore would be considered D1 North for the bowl games. We will continue to rank Los Gatos in D2 North until that happens.
**Does not include forfeit win.

DIVISION III SOUTH
1. El Capitan (Lakeside) 10-0
2. Lompoc 10-0
3. Newbury Park 8-2
4. Arroyo Grande 8-2

DIVISION III NORTH
1. Campolindo (Moraga) 10-0
2. Sutter 10-0
3. Sonora 9-1
4. Aptos 8-1
Note: Previous No. 2 Sacred Heart Prep has been moved to D1 North after defeating Burlingame 35-14 last week to clinch league title and automatic berth in the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division playoffs. All CCS Open Division teams are considered D1 North for the CIF bowl games.

DIVISION IV SOUTH
1. Christian (El Cajon) 10-0
2. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth) 9-1
3. St. Margaret’s (SJ Capistrano) 10-0

DIVISION IV NORTH
1. Central Catholic (Modesto) 7-3
2. McClymonds (Oakland) 9-0
3. Capital Christian (Sacramento) 10-0
Note: We are not counting McClymonds’ forfeit losses until the school’s appeal regarding the eligibility of a player is heard. That appeal is scheduled to take place this week and even if McClymonds doesn’t win the appeal the case still may not be over. Although the Warriors could still win the Oakland Section title and become eligible for the CIF D4 bowl game, section commissioners rarely vote for a team with forfeit losses (ask Vista Murrieta down south). According to sources, McClymonds also is going to do all it can to regain the eligibility of that player, who is QB Kevin Davidson.

    Mark,

What are your thoughts on the possibility of you moving Aptos past Sonora or Sutter for NorCal D-III NorCal if Salinas were to win the CCS D-I title? Sonora, aside from having to go through Central Catholic to win the SJS D-IV title, hasn’t beaten anyone of consequence all year (they lost to Oakdale as their only quality opponent). Sutter doesn’t really have any high-quality wins, either (neither Novato, nor Justin-Siena are favored to win section titles). Salinas is likely going to get the CCS D-I top seed and the Mariners’ loss to Granite Bay is at least as good as Sonora’s to Oakdale, if not better. Aptos will also have to go through Burlingame and/or St. Ignatius to win a CCS D-III title.

We wrote up that possibility in our Week 11 NorCal Bowl Game rankings post. There’s a lot that would have to happen, but yes it is possible for Aptos (and Sonora) to build a case that could mean trouble for Sutter.

You are kidding right? Sutter would dismantle Sonora! Didn’t Sonora just complete a home and home series against Northern Section power Paradise in which Paradise destroyed Sonora in both games?? Sutter is waaaay better then Paradise!! Sutter would beat the breaks off Sonora… As well as Aptos, but Aptos is much stronger then Sonora.

Not to mention that Sutter will have to go through some SOLID and as usual UNDERATED Northern Section d3 squads in West Valley, Orland and Lassen who can all play… Lassen and West Valley can play!

Sonora did not play Paradise this year. It’s a longshot because they would have to beat Central Catholic to get on the board and not many around the SJS think that is going to happen. We have to present all the possibilities, though.
