Here is what that countdown revealed with player, high school and notes:

1. Cameron Smith (Granite Bay) 6-3, 225, Sr.
Committed to USC and one of the best in the state this season.

2. Lonny Powell (Sacramento) 6-1, 220, Sr.
A Cal commit, Lonny got hurt in game against Rocklin but still remains a talent to watch.

3. Frank Ginda (Pacheco, Los Banos) 6-1, 230, Sr.
This is a fairly new school and Frank may be the best player from Pacheco so far.

4. Khalil Hodge (St. Mary’s, Stockton) 6-0, 225, Sr.
Has started the season strong and is averaging nearly 15 tackles per game.

5. Bailey Laolagi (Folsom) 6-2, 225, Sr.
He suffered a knee injury late last season but looks recovered so far and anchoring Folsom’s much improved defense (compared to last year).

Tune into this week’s show Friday at 11 p.m. for all the local highlights plus the next Top 5 from CalHiSports.com, which will be the top five defensive backs for the 2014 season from the Sac-Joaquin Section. The show will include highlights from all of the biggest games in the region.
