These schools below are listed according to winning percentage only. Other factors such as school size, strength of schedule, etc. are not utilized. Here are the top 25 football schools in California since the 2010 season (does not include schools that are not members of the California Interscholastic Federation):

1. De La Salle (Concord)
No surprise here as the Spartans lost for just the second time since 2008 when they fell to St. John Bosco in last December’s CIF Open Division state bowl game. Totals: 56-2, 96.5%

2. Marin Catholic (Kentfield)
Coach Mazi Moayad’s teams also have been known for producing big-time QBs Jared Goff and Morgan Mahalak. Totals: 51-5, 91.1%

3. Le Grand
This is the school that lost to Sierra Canyon in 2011 CIF D4 bowl game. Last year’s team went 12-0 and won CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division V title. Totals: 45-5, 90%

4. Folsom
The Bulldogs are not fans of the Open Division since they’ve lost two times in a row to De La Salle. Still, they’ve been sensational so far this decade and should be again this season. Totals: 53-6, 89.8%

5. Vista Murrieta (Murrieta)
This record for the Broncos does not include five forfeit losses from 2011 and one forfeit win from 2012. Totals: 50-6, 89.3%

6. Lompoc
The best team the Braves have had so far this decade was in 2011 but unbeaten 14-0 squad was bypassed for SoCal bowl game in favor of a different unbeaten squad (Washington of Easton). Totals: 48-6, 88.8%

7. Heritage (Menifee)
This program can get overlooked in the Inland Empire, but has been a solid producer of D1 talent in recent years and has gotten at least to the semifinals of its CIFSS divisional playoff for three straight years. Totals: 47-6, 88.6%

8. Citrus Hill (Perris)
Coach Eric Zomalt, who we still remember as a standout running back at Canyon Springs, has directed teams to 13-1, 14-0 and 12-1 records over the last three seasons. Totals: 46-6, 88.5%

9. Mission Viejo
The Diablos have lost some heart-breakers in recent seasons in the CIFSS Pac-5 Division playoffs but have been unbeaten in the regular season three times in the last four years. Totals: 45-6, 88.2%

10. Carmel
Last year’s team looked poised to get the NorCal D3 state bowl bid, but then fell to arch-rival Pacific Grove 77-53. Totals: 43-6, 87.7%

11. Serra (Gardena)
Other than that one year in 2011 when a young group of Cavs went 8-3, it’s been a bonanza of a decade so far for head coach Scott Altenberg’s program with similar expectations for this season. Totals: 49-7, 87.5%

12. Madison (San Diego)
The Warhawks lost in a 2010 state bowl game to Escalon but returned in 2012 and knocked off Marin Catholic. Totals: 45-6-1, 87.5%

13. Corona del Mar (Newport Beach)
A win over Sacred Heart Prep in last December’s CIF D3 state bowl game enabled the Sea Kings to become the first 16-0 team in state history, a record that was tied a few hours later by St. John Bosco. Their decade record so far also does not include one win by forfeit. Totals: 49-7-1, 86.8%

14. Centennial (Corona)
When will we ever get a game between the Huskies and their insane offense against Folsom and its equally insane offense? Totals: 52-8, 86.7%

15. Rio Hondo Prep (Arcadia)
Coach Ken Drain’s program has been a powerhouse for many years and it’s time he and the program start to get more kudos for it. Totals: 45-7, 86.5%

16. Rancho Verde (Moreno Valley)
It seems like every year there is at least one big-time D1 college recruit playing at this school. QB Sheriron Jones (Florida) is just the latest. Totals: 48-8, 85.7%

17. Bakersfield
Another decade and another one of huge success so far for California’s winningest all-time football school. Totals: 45-8, 84.9%

18. Chaminade (West Hills)
The worst season for the Eagles so far this decade has been 10-3 for 2012. Totals: 47-9, 83.9%

19. Wasco
The Tigers and their fans know what Lompoc felt like in 2011 when their unbeaten team in 2012 didn’t get chosen for a CIF state bowl game. Totals: 41-8, 83.7%

20. Nordhoff (Ojai)
If you asked which school had the best record in Ventura County since 2010, Nordhoff probably wouldn’t be your first choice after Westlake, Oaks Christian and St. Bonaventure but that’s the correct answer.* Totals: 45-9, 83.3%

21. Sacred Heart Prep (Atherton)
With LB Ben Burr-Kirven and others returning, the Gators in 2014 should keep on rolling up the wins. Totals: 44-9, 83.0%

22. Kaiser (Fontana)
After Kats went 13-1 in 2012, they posted third 10-win season of the decade in 2013. Totals: 43-9, 82.7%

23. Escalon
Last year’s sub-par showing of 7-5 dropped the Cougars from near the top of this list. Totals: 45-10, 81.8%

24. Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth)
This was another team that took a tumble due to a poor 2013 season. In their case, the Trail Blazers were 5-6 after a 38-4 start to the decade. Totals: 43-10, 81.1%

25. Central Catholic (Modesto)
There has been a 7-5 season for the Raiders this decade, but back-to-back CIF D4 state titles have made that a distant memory. Totals: 46-11, 80.7%

Note: Campolindo of Moraga and Alemany of Mission Hills would be next at 40-10 and 39-10, respectively. The differences between schools in this range could change drastically with just one loss. Campolindo and Alemany are just barely in front of Chula Vista Eastlake, Elk Grove Pleasant Grove, St. John Bosco, Long Beach Poly, St. Margaret’s of SJ Capistrano, Cardinal Newman of Santa Rosa, Oceanside and Sutter. We don’t count Bosco’s four forfeit losses from 2012 for record book purposes, but the Braves were still only 5-5 in 2010 and 8-4 in 2011 so last year’s 16-0 record still didn’t get them above 80 percent.

*Westlake (40-11), St. Bonaventure (40-11) and Oaks Christian (39-11) amazingly all have almost exactly the same win-loss records over the last four seasons.

So defending Central div champ Menifee Heritage (who defeated Rancho Verde by the way), and is 49-7 since 2010 is left off another CalHiSports list.. No surprise there..

It’s like pulling teeth to get you guys to recognize the players and talent and accomplishments of this school. Ridiculous.

Can’t wait to hear the excuse for excluding them this time…

And Heritage has had 5 players go D1 and 3 go D2 in the last two years. Several others playing at RCC and MSJC.

*St Margaret’s SS 40-11 same as Westlake , St. Bonnies and Oaks Christian

For those schools the point was about comparing them to Nordhoff’s record. In addition to St. Margaret’s at 40-11, Elk Grove is 40-11, Oceanside 41-11-1, St. John Bosco 41-11, Sutter 39-11.

tip: call teams throughout i.e. DeLaSalle (Concord) not Concord DeLaSalle

In the actual record book files, which contain tens of thousands of listings, the style is Concord De La Salle (city listed first) but for the web site it’s been the other way around. If you want to go into the record book files and switch the style for 10,000 listings or more, you are welcome to do that. We aren’t going to do that and realize the difference might be annoying to some users.

And still no update or reason why Menifee Heritage is not on this list…

Heritage will be added to the list. No excuse. Just missed them. Don’t understand why some people think it’s some kind of vendetta or something.

Don’t think it’s a vendetta. Just think you guys are so enamored with the “history” of some schools that you don’t give the newer schools the love. Been trying to get you to acknowledge Heritage in state rankings and player rankings for three years. Appreciate the update! Thank you.

Don’t forget about Serrano. In the little town of Phelan we seem to always get lost in the records but the boys have a 44-7 record.
