These now include Monday games from Qualcomm Stadium in the San Diego Section. The only Top 25 newcomers are California of San Ramon and Crenshaw of Los Angeles. Casa Grande now on top for D2 North bowl game and we agree with El Cajon Christian’s case against the CIF and will put that school back on top in D4 South (at least until it is resolved).

If Bakersfield Christian were to upset Mission Oak in the Central Section Division IV championship game, then what is the likelihood that they get chosen for a regional bowl?

    • RedBird
      Posted December 2, 2013 at 2:10 pm | Permalink

I think it would be highly likely. If Bakersfield Christian, Christian El Cajon, Mission Prep & St. Margaret’s all win their divisions the regional should be BC vs. Christian. Christian destroyed MP the 1st game of the season (42-0) and MP beat St. Margaret’s pretty handily. BC would most likely be the Central Section’s only representative. The Wasco snub from last year would be another consideration for the commissioners before they vote.

Also, an upset of Mission Oak would mean that Nordhoff should get a chance to play in the DIII regional.

I think they are in and although not as strong as Christian of El Cajon would be favored to beat any of the other teams still in the hunt for that bowl.

    DivII South,

La Serna should be mentioned as a possible, 3rd time in a row to the finals, beat Westlake two years in row, back to back Del Rio League champions. Ranked in Fox CIF SS polled at 19th no Norwalk, Max Preps Southern La Serna 32 and Norwalk 36 Southeast La Serna 1 and Norwalk 2

We’ve had Norwalk higher in that division, but obviously if La Serna wins that game they do become a possibility for that division. It also will be a big plus for Norwalk if it can win that game. Should be a good game. We have La Serna 8th in D2 South but a couple of teams above them are playing each other (St. Augustine vs. Mission Bay and Hart vs. Valencia).

I don’t see how either Norwalk or La Serna gets in over Hart or St. Augustine. The Northern Division is light years better than the Southeast, plus Hart’s win over Chaminade is much better than anything Norwalk or LS has.

St. Augustine Saints completed a dominating playoff performance by devastating Mission Bay 49-0 in the SDS DII final. They also ran over West Hills 41-7 and previously undefeated Imperial 55-12 (which has the SDS section all-time rusher Royce Freeman). During the regular season upset Cathedral Catholic (SDS DI Champs) 19-7. The logical choice for DII South is St. Augustine.

Actually, I wouldn’t call the win over Cathedral an “upset.” Upset in my mind connotes that the game was close. It wasn’t. They punk-slapped the Dons in their own house and if one looks at the stats, it wasn’t as close as the score. Remember that Saints had a 98 yard pick six taken off the board for a phantom penalty I’m still trying to figure out to boot. Saints belongs in that SOCAL Div II bracket; period.

            Posted December 3, 2013 at 6:30 pm | Permalink

I agree on the phantom call…….true on the stats but comparing the stats to their other games it shows a massive defensive stand against a well known powerhouse. The powerhouse part is due to the State Bowl win that they had thanks to Gaffney (Stanford RB).

          • SaintsFather
            Posted December 3, 2013 at 6:33 pm | Permalink

The win against Cathedral is an upset due to the fact Saints were supposed to lose and the fact CCHS won the DI Title, so losing to Saints is considered an upset.

This is the latest projection from MaxPreps for the DII South game

        DIVISION II
Valencia (12-2) vs. St. Augustine (San Diego) (11-2)

This is assuming that Serra wins a section title. If Chaminade pulls off the upset, things could change. The Eagles would be 12-2 and a serious contender for the Open Division – but if they don’t get the Open Division nod, then that knocks St. Augustine or Valencia/Hart out. Valencia faces Hart for the Northern Division title, a team they beat 24-19 in league play, and the winner of that game should be in due to the division’s tough slate of teams. The second spot will be up for grabs (assuming Chaminade loses) between St. Augustine (already qualified) and Norwalk. Yes, there are lots of teams left in this group, but bowl-worthy credentials are much harder to find.

MaxPreps is the Nations leader in ranking and stats. With a National Ranking 106, a high scoring Offense and stout Defense that stuffed a even higher scoring Offense….the choice is Obvious.

When we not had St. Augustine ranked high? We’ve had them up there in D2 South since they beat Cathedral Catholic. The only way they don’t go to a bowl game is if Chaminade beats Serra and Chaminade drops down to D2 South instead of the Open Division and then Chaminade is chosen to play either Hart/Valencia in a rematch. Glad you are a fan of MaxPreps (so am I; I probably give them more hits than any other person on Earth in a given year) but our rankings go back almost 35 years in California and there are still some people who like how we do rankings better (which is not by a computer).

Unfortunately, I think St. Augustine is now likely going to be left out. Chaminade just beat Serra, Hart has a win over Chaminade and Centennial won so I think they get moved up to the Open Division.

Unfortunate……..snubbing teams just to see a rematch is sad. Personally if Chaminade stays in DII Saints would be a much better game. It should be what’s best for the teams in the entire region not a local rematch. A true North versus South in the Southern region is how the regional games need to be played if California doesn’t revamp the non playoff system. Granted I came from a true Playoff system in Pennsylvania which uses the A,AA, AAA, and AAAA system. There is no jumping divisions. Our leagues are setup by schools that are all in the same division.

          • Mark Tennis
            Posted December 7, 2013 at 2:29 pm | Permalink

It’s not about a rematch. Hart has a win over Chaminade already. It’s about the criteria. They aren’t going to not vote for Hart with them and Chaminade both on the part and they certainly aren’t going to vote for St. Augustine in front of Chaminade when Chaminade just beat Serra. St. Augustine really needed Serra to win and then get moved up to the open division.

          • SaintsFather
            Posted December 7, 2013 at 5:32 pm | Permalink

Voting over Chaminade would not be plausible seeing how there are ranked by CalHi as #2. Just having a hard time no matter who beat who that Hart would jump over Saints that beat Cathedral Catholic. Cathedral has beaten the #1 team in Utah Jordan HS (they finished 7th in Utah in the end) and Vista Murrietta. Watching that game last night of Chaminade and Serra. Serra beat themselves and gave the game to Chaminade with over 100yds of penalties. At least 2 of Chaminade’s score would have never happened if untimely pass interference calls including 3 in one drive. Granted that’s the playoffs. Unfortunately it is about a rematch cause the two have already played each other. With a non playoff system for the state level, this is exactly reason the current system is flawed. Why rank teams if teams that are lower can be selected over teams that are higher. #1 Serra and #3 Valencia according to CalHi rankings lost leaving #2 Chaminade and #4 St. Augustine. So to appeared unbiased those 2 should play each other. Granted Serra laying an egg last night didn’t help any

I think the rest of the state would enjoy seeing Elijah Preston, all 5’5 and 165 pounds of him running behind an offensive line that is very large, very athletic, and rather violent altogether. A bunch of guys who hadn’t really played together before this year, and they just keep getting better every week. It’s a fun team to watch, and I’ve been watching, playing, or coaching prep football since the mid-1960s. It will be a shame if they aren’t allowed to take the next step.

Can’t wait for the human part (error) of this playoff system to stop. There should have been no way that Hart jumped over St. Augustine’s for a rematch against Chaminade. No way can anyone try to say that it was not a rematch. The board needs to be disbanded and one rep per section on the board or go to a true playoff system and stop the human manipulation of who plays who.

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted December 2, 2013 at 2:12 pm | Permalink

The fourth would be St. Margaret’s 11-1, but not favored to beat Jurupa Hills in section final. If this Christian of El Cajon deal doesn’t stick and assuming Bakersfield Christian loses to Mission Oak and Mission Prep loses to L.A. Salesian, then the only qualified D4 South team is likely View Park. The next step would then be for the committee to grab the next lowest team by enrollment, which is Salesian. So let’s get fired up for Salesian of L.A. vs. View Park with the winner perhaps playing Central Catholic. This all could happen if Christian doesn’t stick and results go as expected.

Shouldn’t get the reclassification, because of the fact the McClymonds High School, which has a enrollment of less then 300, was denided in 2010 and the team was 12-0. If this happens then it will be a ton of backlash

I have seen that about McClymonds in 2010 as well, but the point I don’t know is if the enrollment was that low at that time. The school has had a lot of changes in recent years.

I’m looking at enrollment numbers and I don’t see Salesian as the lowest enrollment. I see Holtville, Farmersville and Mendota/Liberty all in the 500-700 enrollment range with Salesian at almost 900? Am I missing something?

        • Mark Tennis
          Posted December 5, 2013 at 7:30 pm | Permalink

It’s possible where I read about Salesian being the next team that could be grabbed that the enrollment total was not doubled because it is an all-boys school. If that’s the case and Mendota beats Liberty, El Cajon Christian loses its case, Bakersfield Christian loses, Mission Prep loses and St. Margaret’s loses (all possible), I’m all for getting Edgar Segura another game. This mess that is the D4 South bowl game will all probably lead us to another 66-7 loss to Central Catholic in the state game anyway. We’ve been headed for that since early in the season.

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted December 2, 2013 at 8:20 pm | Permalink

If Chaminade beats Serra, why not Chaminade instead for the Open Division? Beating Serra is going to be more impressive than any wins that Corona Centennial or Vista Murrieta have and Chaminade will have avenged one of its losses. We have had Chaminade and Centennial next to each other as the top two-loss teams for a couple of weeks and I do not think Centennial has a clear edge over Chaminade in that scenario. In fact, the more I look at it, Chaminade maybe has the edge. St. Augustine’s win over Mission Bay also looks even better now that Cathedral Catholic has beaten San Pasqual. Only way St. Aug doesn’t get a game is if Chaminade beats Serra, doesn’t get into the Open Division and the CIF takes Hart/Valencia winner as its second team for D2 South.

        Posted December 3, 2013 at 8:22 am | Permalink

If Chaminade beats Serra, it is likely to be because Jackson is hindered with that ankle or doesn’t play. I think it would be unfair to put them in the Open against someone like Bosco. Some reward for having to deal with Serra in their league and division for last three years, and being the second best team in the state in D2 during that time, but not able to be included. They would become the obvious favorite to win the D2 championship if allowed to go into D2.

How do you justify putting Garden Grove ahead of Mission Oak after the Hawks beat Wasco 47-7? This just seems like another case of favoritism towards teams that aren’t from the Central Section.

    • Mark Tennis
      Posted December 2, 2013 at 8:09 pm | Permalink

It’s a 13-0 vs. 13-0 final, one of the few in Calif h.s. history, so why not give it some attention by making it a 1 vs. 2? If Garden Grove wins, we also want to be clear that it would/should go to the bowl game. This doesn’t impact Mission Oak at all. If it wins, we’ll recommend that they play in the bowl game, too. You can only scream favoritism if Mission Oak goes unbeaten (playing a tougher schedule than Wasco last year) and doesn’t get a bowl bid over a team that isn’t unbeaten.

you are cluless pirate boy. While Romero clearly struggled all year, the other two options were significantly worse. The sophomore was clearly not ready for varsity football (he was completely lost) and the Helix transfer came late and showed in the past that he played poorly in big games. The qb position was the question mark going into the year and it was the final undoing… Blaming the coaches is ignorant.

Both you cats are myopic or have connections to Carroll ? The whole coaching staff should be embarrassed. It is disturbing, the whole situation.

You can all play the monday morning armchair qb card all you want… the truth is that the other two qbs were not better options… I’m not saying that #2 was a great qb this year… he wasn’t… but you people are obviously forgetting how bad the soph looked when he got opportunities in the beginning of the year… having a strong arm does not always equal a good qb…#8 came late and at no time looked better than #2.. he could barely take a snap… You say it couldn’t have gotten worse? There is no way those other two qbs come back in the second half against Eastlake… you are fooling yourselves if you think otherwise… I hate to admit it but Mission Hills was better than Oceanside this year… plain and simple

If you compare the two teams MH was a much bigger team than Oside. Look their defensive front 6 bullied Oside’s Oline both games. Besides Oside’s skill players which were pretty damn good…other areas were average at best…including their Qb. Losing Whittaker at corner and slot receiver hurt them. His back ups did not show up on Monday. Again Congrats to Mission Hills.

How do you snub Nordhoff? I’m sure the teams they played were better then Mission Oak s schedule

It’s only going to be a snub if Nordhoff wins against El Segundo and then isn’t taken seriously. It will be a tough choice at that point between Nordhoff and Mission Oak. This time, I just think Mission Oak will have a stronger case. It’s unbeaten record is from a stronger league than Wasco’s last year (including Porterville and Tulare Western). Mission Oak also just beat Wasco 47-7 and Wasco isn’t that bad (earlier in year Bakersfield beat Wasco 35-13) so Mission Oak beat em worse than even the Drillers. Nordhoff has a loss but will have overcome it by winning this week. This also will be the only Central Section team with a chance to get picked (unless Bakersfield Christian upsets Mission Oak and gets eligible for D4 South) so the politics of the situation also can’t be ignored.

Does Nordhoff have a chance at Div. IV ?

Nordhoff is too big in enrollment to be Division IV. It would be up for the D3 South game if it beats El Segundo. They would sort of be avenging their only loss because El Segundo had the win over Oak Park. It would then probably be between them and Mission Oak to play winner of Corona del Mar/Garden Grove game. Assuming Mission Oak beats Bakersfield Christian, we’d have Mission Oak higher on our board but looks like a close call to me.

Unfortunately if Nordhoff & Mission Oak win out CIF will most likely pick Mission Oak. It will be completely political because of the Wasco snub last year & given the fact that the Central Section has no other representatives in the Bowl games. MO will have a perfect record, but I think Nordhoff’s schedule was stronger. Nordhoff’s opponents record: 88-61. MO’s opponents record: 56-74. Nordhoff better hope for a Bakersfield Christian upset. I’d prefer to see BC in a DIV Regional game also.

I was thinking if No Div IV schools qualified could Nordhoff play in Div IV. I know they are greater then 500 enrollment

Enterprise should be in the nor cal div 2 regional they are 12-0 and they are a super quick team with a great offensive and defensive line to go with there outstanding junior tailback they should be the team to beat are they getting snubbed?

If Enterprise doesn’t get selected, they have no one to blame but themselves. A lot of other NS teams went out of section for a few games, but the Hornets only played Oakdale (no, last year’s performance for this team has no bearing on this year). Yes, Enterprise may look quick and great, but the level of the NS competition is highly questionable, relative to that of the NCS, CCS, and SJS. That NS D-I playoff system is a mess. If the Eastern League were to have scored multiple intersectional wins, maybe it would look better, but having to play those teams twice is not beneficial.

I think calling paradise questionable is a farce sutter, west valley, and central valley are all good teams and enterprise routed them maybe you need to come to a belief that the northern section has some pretty tough competition these boys deserve a state game they are undefeated period put them up against an undefeated casa grande squad and lets see who is right and wrong go hornets

What has Paradise done this year to suggest they are anything but questionable?

Maybe you need to come to the realization that NS teams don’t ever beat anyone who is any good outside of the NS.

There are going to be four solid teams on the board for this division and two of them will be picked. Doesn’t matter which two are not picked; they’ll both feel snubbed for different reasons. If Enterprise isn’t picked, they’ll say it’s because it’s the Northern Section snub; if St. Francis isn’t possibly picked they’ll say it’s because of a snub of the private Catholic school being allowed to play down in its division. It’s going to be a hard choice no matter how it comes out.

DIV North Bowl Bids playoffs. Why do teams like McClymonds and LeGrand only play two playoff games and get a section title? Why others play four? Should McClymonds play LeGrand during this bye week. Those that play four are subject to possibility more injuries.

Congrats to mission hills they played a great game I hope connar gets a chance to play a little college ball smart mobile great player like his brother was. As far as the game I felt Thai wasn’t utilizied enough no passes to the flats or any plays to him that much really. I felt if mikah is being constantly double covered they should have thrown to T. K he had single coverage all night. Anyways MH I hope goes to state to represent North county and prove football down here is just as good as anywhere.

Mark Tennis can you please explain why every year De la Salle gets a first round bye in the playoffs in the CCS? Then it seems they end up playing the same two foes they’ve already destroyed earlier that season and ultimately have a cake walk to the State Bowl every year. I’m one ghost sure seems the Sac Joaquin Section is stronger overall year in and year out.

Well, in fact, they don’t have a first-round bye every year. They didn’t last year. What team really wants to be a low seed and play them anyway? If Folsom beats Oak Ridge 35-0 this week (for the second time), I guess you could say the same thing about them. Playing a bunch of cupcakes they already beat before. The Sac-Joaquin Section does have more good teams than the NCS, I agree with that, but when teams are at the level that DLS is at every year (other than 2004, 2005) there just aren’t too many around that are going to give them much of a game. I’d say three to four in the state each year and two of those are now usually going to be playing each other in the SoCal Open Division game.

What happens if Chaminade and Bakersfield both win. Will Chamidade getting the Open Slot if it wins or will they Stay in D-II to allow Bakersfield into either the Open or D-1 south game?

Bakersfield with two losses is not going to the Open Division. Bakersfield also needs Centennial to lose so the Vista Murrieta/Cathedral Catholic comparisons can come up.

I figure Bakersfield would not go to the open but if Chaminade wins and is put in the D-II bowl game it opens up enough slots for Bakersfield. I can’t imaged the CIF wanting to pick two San Diego section schools over another Section champ would they?
