1. (1) De La Salle (Concord) 12-0
Defeated Deer Valley (Antioch) 57-27. The Spartans were tied 14-14 before storming out to a 43-14 lead by halftime. Still, Nsimba Webster’s big plays for Deer Valley might not be a good sign for a defense that could face more than one game-breaker against either St. John Bosco or Gardena Serra.
2. (2) St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 13-0
Defeated No. 7 Alemany (Mission Hills) 56-14. We don’t have ties in rankings, but this big win by the Braves pulls them closer to DLS among those (like us) who will still have the Spartans ranked higher until they lose to another California team.
3. (3) Folsom 13-0
Defeated Jesuit (Carmichael) 42-35. Jesuit lost 56-14 to the Bulldogs earlier in the season. Kudos to the Marauders, but not a good omen if Folsom eventually wants to win the CIF Open Division state title. Note that according to one report the Bulldogs went for it on 4th and 13 from their own 17. They didn’t get it, then Jesuit scored the game’s first touchdown.
4. (4) Serra (Gardena) 13-0
Defeated St. Francis (La Canada) 22-14. Adoree Jackson did not play but is expected to be back next week for CIFSS Western Division final according to Evan Barnes of the South Bay Daily Breeze.
5. (6) Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 11-2
Lost to No. 6 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 30-0. The season ends for the Jackrabbits as they’re completely shut down by Mater Dei’s defense. RECAP
6. (9) Mater Dei (Santa Ana) 11-2
Defeated No. 5 Long Beach Poly (Long Beach) 30-0. Justin Allen scored on a 75-yard run as he continues to come back from an injury. With the win, Mater Dei will play St. John Bosco for the CIFSS Pac-5 Division title next Saturday night at the Big A. RECAP
7. (7) Alemany (Mission Hills) 10-2
Lost to No. 2 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 56-14. We’ll probably have to wait a few weeks before the significance of losing 56-14 to the Braves gets figured out.
8. (8) Centennial (Corona) 10-2
Defeated Upland 86-56. Tre Watson rushed for 519 yards on 40 carries and the Huskies gained a total of 964 yards. This was even crazier than the 69-55 game we saw early in the season between Centennial and St. Bonaventure. Centennial’s 964 yards breaks the state record of 912 yards for most total offense in one game set in 1967 by Happy Camp. The small Northern Section school won 95-7 that season in that game against McCloud.
9. (10) Chaminade (West Hills) 11-2
Defeated Lompoc 49-14. The Eagles advance to the CIFSS Western Division finals for second year in a row where they will play No. 4 Serra (Gardena) also for the second year in a row.
10. (11) Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 12-1
Defeated No. 22 Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 26-20. With the win, Oak Ridge advances to CIF Sac-Joaquin Section D1 final and will get to take another crack at No. 3 Folsom. It was a 35-0 Bulldogs’ win in the first meeting.
11. (12) Serra (San Mateo) 10-2
Defeated Bellarmine (San Jose) 28-17 on Saturday. The Padres now meet Archbishop Mitty next for the CIF Central Coast Section Open Division championship. Winner still on track to probably play Sac-Joaquin Section D2 champ in NorCal Division I bowl game.
12. (14) Mission Hills (San Marcos) 12-1
Played Monday at Qualcomm Stadium vs. No. 14 Oceanside in first-ever San Diego Section Open Division final and won 36-14. The game was held Monday because the Chargers haad a home game on Sunday.
13. (15) Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 12-1
Defeated Norco 56-19. No problem for the Broncos against QB Coltin Gerhart’s old team. Now for the third straight year we get Vista Murrieta vs. Corona Centennial for the CIFSS Inland Division title.
14. (17) Oceanside 10-3
Played Monday at Qualcomm Stadium vs. No. 12 Mission Hills (San Marcos) for San Diego Open Division crown and lost 36-14. Pirates lost to Mission Hills 30-7 earlier in the season.
15. (5) Mission Viejo 11-1
Season complete. The Diablos were ousted in the CIFSS Pac-5 playoffs by Mater Dei. They didn’t lose by as much as Long Beach Poly did on Friday so they might move up in the next rankings.
16. (16) Del Oro (Loomis) 11-2
Defeated Yuba City 52-26. The Golden Eagles will face No. 18 Elk Grove in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II finals. Elk Grove ended Del Oro’s season last year with a 35-32 win in the D2 semis.
17. (18) Bakersfield 10-2
Defeated Central (Fresno) 45-6. The Drillers out-gained the Grizzlies 302-37 in the first half on their way to a 28-6 lead.
18. (20) Elk Grove 12-1
Defeated Rio Linda 22-14. RECAP
19. (23) Archbishop Mitty (San Jose) 11-1
Defeated Valley Christian (San Jose) 37-7. After seeing Valley Christian last week, this was a pretty good team that the Monarchs just thrashed. They will now play either Serra or Bellarmine in the CCS Open Division final.
20. (19) Narbonne (Harbor City) 11-2
Defeated Carson 40-12. Solid win for the Gauchos after they struggled a bit in game last week against Birmingham. They now face Crenshaw again for the L.A. City Section Division I title.
21. (22) Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 12-0
Defeated Analy (Sebastopol) 48-20 on Saturday. Wildcats will now play El Cerrito next week in CIF North Coast Section Division III championship. Their earlier win over Miramonte of Orinda now looking better after Miramonte advanced to NCS D2 title game.
22. (NR) Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 10-3
Lost to No. 10 Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 26-20. The Eagles finish with two of their three losses to Oak Ridge.
23. (13) Eastlake (Chula Vista) 10-2
Season complete. The Titans lost in the San Diego Section Open Division semifinals 33-30 to No. 14 Oceanside.
24. (NR) Corona del Mar (Newport Beach) 13-0
Defeated Westminster 37-0. The Sea Kings will now play Garden Grove in the CIFSS Southern Division final in a 13-0 vs. 13-0 showdown. Note: If Folsom were to play either St. John Bosco or Gardena Serra in the Open Division state bowl game, both teams would be 15-0.
25. (NR) San Pasqual (Escondido) 11-2
Defeated Carlsbad 28-14 on Wednesday. Played Cathedral Catholic (San Diego) in the CIF San Diego Section Division I championship game on Monday afternoon and lost 37-31 in triple overtime.
