Boys BB: Player rankings updated

RELATED: What Do National Player Rankings Mean?

The national player rankings of the recruiting networks and other credible rankings have been updated. Plenty of Californians are represented and a few have moved up on various lists, among them Stanley Johnson (Mater Dei, Santa Ana), Tyler Dorsey (St. John Bosco, Bellflower), Chance Comanche (View Park Prep, Los Angeles) and Oscar Frayer (Moreau Catholic, Hayward).

Johnson, who will chose between Arizona, Kentucky, USC, Florida, and Oregon in the spring (yes, UCLA is out), is the No. 1 ranked 2014 prospect by the Hoop Scoop. He’s also played his way up on the other credible national rankings out there. He’s ranked No. 2 by 247Sports.com, No. 3 by Rivals.com, No. 6 by Scout.com and No. 12 by ESPN.com after hovering near the top 10 before his standout summer.

Dorsey, who struggled at times during his sophomore season at St. John Bosco, had a fantastic spring and summer. The 6-foot-4 guard is now the top-ranked prospect in the Class of 2015 by the Hoop Scoop, which aligned with StudentSportsBasketball.com for its high school player rankings and will periodically publicize them for the long-running recruiting service. Dorsey is ranked No. 4 by 247Sports.com, No. 5 by Rivals.com, No. 7 by Scout.com and No. 8 by ESPN.com.

Comanche is No. 15 among 2015 prospects by Rivals.com, No. 25 by 247Sports.com, No. 30 by Scout.com, No. 35 by the Hoop Scoop and No. 47 by ESPN.com. He’s shown tremendous improvement and with a big junior season could be a serious McDonald’s All-American candidate.

Frayer, who played 17U ball this summer for the Oakland Soldiers, just missed making the Cal-Hi Sports all-state freshman team last season, but is rapidly developing into a national recruit. He’s ranked No. 23 by Rivals.com, No. 25 by Scout.com. He’s not ranked by 247Sports.com or ESPN.com and the Hoop Scoop has not yet updated its Class of 2016 rankings.
