Preseason FB: 2013 All-State teams

Santa Margarita’s Johnny Stanton, here scoring the winning TD in 2011 CIF D1 bowl game, was a preseason all-stater in 2012 but injury kept him from making the all-state team. Many factors will change the names on our most prestigious honor squad. Photo: Scott Kurtz

All of the preseason all-region and section teams are reviewed to produce our 28th annual Cal-Hi Sports preseason all-state football team. Although some of these all-region teams have yet to be published (some of the state doesn’t get started until September 6), we still wanted to release this year’s 60-man preseason all-state first and second team before Labor Day weekend.

The 2013 Cal-Hi Sports preseason football all-state team is based on high school performance from last season and on performance at various camps and combines, especially for the linemen. As the season progresses, you will notice this team will vary from the actual, end-of-the season all-state team. That will be published in January 2014 after the season and takes into account team performance, various injuries, suspensions or transfers, and local consensus.

For our Gold Club Members, we have now published all of our preseason all-state football teams dating back to 1986. You can also find them linked under the Archives tab on the upper navigation bar. We’ll be adding more archived honors squads in the coming months.
