Our 31st annual all-state teams package for softball includes 30 players named second team overall plus 35 more who are third team. The third team, however, is only for seniors and only for large schools.

Note: Check out Inside the All-State Softball Teams, a premium feature running in conjunction with this week’s All-State Softball selections. This feature includes more top freshmen and sophomores who were not on the all-state underclass team. It’s for Gold Club members. A one-year subscription now will carry you through the 2014 season. If you are chosen to any of the Cal-Hi Sports all-state teams, you should consider yourself an “all-state” player. Whether it’s first team overall, second team overall, third team, underclass, medium schools or small schools, to be on any of these teams should be considered an honor.

California remains, after all, the greatest state in the nation (by far) in the sport and is still the worldwide leader. There also are more than 1,000 schools in the state.
