No. 3 Vista Murrieta falls to No. 5 Corona Centennial with No. 1 De La Salle and No. 2 Narbonne playing on Saturday. Starting in the late afternoon on Saturday, our Week 15 NorCal and SoCal Bowl Game Rankings will begin to be released.

Here is a look at scores through Friday, Nov. 30. We will add the Saturday scores on Saturday night and will update this list and comments throughout the weekend. Compiled by Paul Muyskens with comments from editor Mark Tennis.

Check throughout Saturday beginning with the CIF NorCal D4 rankings as we will be adding updated CIF bowl game rankings as they are done with all divisions being done before the CIF section commissioners meet on Sunday to determine which teams will play in the regional bowl game. And be sure to watch Time Warner’s selection show from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. Mark Tennis of Cal-Hi Sports will be one of the featured analysts.

1. DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 12-0
Plays Saturday vs. No. 19 James Logan in CIF North Coast Section Division I championship. Spartan coaches think Logan is the best team they’ve played in an NCS final in recent years.

2. NARBONNE (HARBOR CITY) 13-0
Plays Saturday vs. No. 7 Crenshaw in CIF L.A. City Section Division I championship.

3. VISTA MURRIETA (MURRIETA) 13-1
Lost to No. 5 Centennial (Corona) 30-28. This loss broke a 27-game on-the-field win streak by the Broncos, which was the longest of that type (not including forfeits) in the state.

4. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 11-2
Plays Saturday vs. No. 12 Long Beach Poly in CIF Southern Section Pac-Five Division championship. With Vista Murrieta losing, it would appear the Monarchs are now in line to get into the SoCal Open Division game (perhaps with a rematch against Narbonne) if they can get past the Jackrabbits.

5. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 13-1
Defeated No. 3 Vista Murrieta (Murrieta) 30-28. The Huskies stopped a two-point conversion with just over a minute left and then recovered an onside kick. They regained the title they lost to Vista Murrieta last season.

6. FOLSOM 13-0
Plays Saturday vs. No. 13 Elk Grove in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship. Bulldogs lost in this game to Vacaville last year but won it the year before against Grant of Sacramento.

7. CRENSHAW (LOS ANGELES) 11-1
Plays Saturday vs. No. 2 Narbonne (Harbor City) in CIF L.A. City Section Division I championship. If the Cougars pull off the upset, also looks like they’d simply replace Narbonne in the Open Division.

8. ST. BONAVENTURE (VENTURA) 11-2
Season complete. Corona Centennial’s win helps the Seraphs because they handed the Huskies their only loss in season opener.

9. BELLARMINE (SAN JOSE) 11-2
Lost to St. Ignatius of San Francisco 13-10 (OT) in CIF Central Coast Section Open Division championship. The Bells were going for their fourth title in five years. SI will now advance to a NorCal bowl game, probably in Division I and probably against Granite Bay.

10. CHAMINADE (WEST HILLS) 12-2
Lost to No. 11 Serra (Gardena) 30-28. Earlier in the season, the Eagles beat Serra 28-20.

11. SERRA (GARDENA) 12-2
Defeated No. 10 Chaminade (West Hills) 30-28. The Cavs’ only other loss was to No. 2 Narbonne. They won their third CIFSS title in the last four years and we think should be a slam dunk for the CIF D2 bowl game, especially if Long Beach Poly were to beat Mater Dei for the Pac-Five title.

12. LONG BEACH POLY (LONG BEACH) 10-3
Plays Saturday vs. No. 4 Mater Dei (Santa Ana) in CIFSS Pac-Five Division championship.

13. ELK GROVE 12-1
Plays Saturday vs. No. 6 Folsom in CIFSJS D2 championship. The Herd lost their only game last season 42-28 to Folsom in the section semis.

14. EDISON (HUNTINGTON BEACH) 13-1
Defeated Villa Park 28-10 and won CIFSS Southwest Division title. This is the first CIFSS title for longtime Chargers’ coach Dave White. Despite win, his team still could face a tough challenge for D2 South bowl bid from Oceanside.

15. OCEANSIDE 11-1
Plays Saturday vs. Poway. If the Pirates win, they’d make it eight CIF San Diego Section titles in the last nine years.

16. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 12-1*
Season complete. Best case scenario for the Braves to get a final high ranking is for Mater Dei to go all the way because they beat the Monarchs in a Trinity League game.

17. MISSION VIEJO 11-1
Season complete. Playoff loss was to Long Beach Poly.

18. OAK RIDGE (EL DORADO HILLS) 12-2
Lost to Granite Bay 35-23. The Trojans couldn’t stop the Grizzlies when it mattered and lost in the CIFSJS D1 championship. Granite Bay won its second straight title and will get to climb back up into next week’s rankings.

19. JAMES LOGAN (UNION CITY) 12-1
Plays Saturday vs. No. 1 De La Salle (Concord). Insiders in the East Bay think this one could actually be close.

20. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SM) 9-3
Season complete.

21. UPLAND 12-1
Season complete.

22. ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 9-3
Season complete.

23. CLOVIS NORTH (CLOVIS) 12-1
Defeated Central (Fresno) 27-10 to win first CIF Central Section Division I title. This also likely clinched a CIF D1 South bowl berth. The Broncos could even get some Open Division support if Long Beach Poly knocks off Mater Dei in the Pac-Five final.

24. NOTRE DAME (SHERMAN OAKS) 8-4
Season complete.

25. OAKS CHRISTIAN (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 8-3
Season complete.

BUBBLE TEAMS (HOW THEY FARED)

Bishop Amat (La Puente) 7-3-1
Season complete.

California (San Ramon) 9-3
Season complete.

Charter Oak (Covina) 10-2
Season complete.

Central (Fresno) 11-3
Lost to No. 23 Clovis North 27-10.

Citrus Hill (Perris) 14-0
Defeated Serrano (Phelan) 38-24 in CIFSS Eastern Division championship.

Clayton Valley (Concord) 12-1
Defeated Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park) 35-7 in CIF North Coast Section Division II championship.

Crespi (Encino) 8-2
Season complete.

Del Oro (Loomis) 7-6
Season complete.

El Cerrito 13-0
Plays Saturday vs. Marin Catholic (Kentfield) in CIF North Coast Section Division III championship.

El Toro (Lake Forest) 9-2
Season complete.

Granite Bay 11-3
Defeated No. 18 Oak Ridge (El Dorado Hills) 35-23 in CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division I championship.

La Serna (Whittier) 12-1
Plays Saturday vs. Downey in CIFSS Southeast Division championship.

Marin Catholic (Kentfield) 11-1
Plays Saturday vs. El Cerrito in CIF North Coast Section Division III championship.

Mission Hills (San Marcos) 10-3
Lost to Eastlake (Chula Vista) 21-14 in CIF San Diego Section Division I championship.

Murrieta Valley (Murrieta) 10-2
Season complete.

Palos Verdes (PV Estates) 10-3
Plays Saturday vs. West (Torrance) in CIFSS Northern Division championship.

Poway 10-2
Plays Saturday vs. No. 15 Oceanside in CIF San Diego Section Division II championship.

Rancho Cotate (Rohnert Park) 12-1
Lost to Clayton Valley (Concord) 35-7 in CIF North Coast Section Division II championship.

Rancho Cucamonga 10-3
Season complete.

Serra (San Mateo) 9-3
Season complete.

Serrano (Phelan) 13-1
Lost to Citrus Hill (Perris) 38-24 in CIFSS Eastern Division championship.

St. Ignatius (San Francisco) 10-3
Defeated No. 9 Bellarmine (San Jose) 13-10 (OT) in CIF Central Coast Section Open Division championship.

Villa Park 12-2
Lost to No. 14 Edison (Huntington Beach) 28-10 in CIFSS Southern Division championship.

How is 2 (TWO) loss Gardena Serra a “slam dunk” for the regional game?
Does anyone not see the 2 losses?
Serra’s SoS is not strong enough to wipe away the fact that they lost 2 games…
In fact calpreps have Edison and Serra with the exact same (36.8) SoS…
Serra should not get in over neither Edison or Oceanside…

  2. Posted December 1, 2012 at 10:03 am | Permalink

If LB Poly wins tonight and Serra has a win over LB Poly, it is without question a slam dunk. I am speculating based on what I think the section commissioners are going to do because I know many of them and have dealt with them for years. Edison benefits if MD wins tonight, but I think that will hurt Oceanside’s chances and not Serra’s.

Not really feeling the two loss argument.just look to last year when a two loss team(santa margarita) won the D1 bowl game. Its always a tough call when you cant decide it on the field.I would like to see Serra vs Oceanside for the D2 regional game

Edison lost to MD… Have we forgotten? How does MD winning in week 14 have anything to do with their game against Edison in week 4?

@Tennis, did you watch Edison last night? I know I am biased so I wanted to get your objective take… I know it was wet but I thought Edison looked average and VP looked bad. What were your thoughts?

Just a comment for Mark Tennis: If Folsom goes onto beat DLS (or Logan) and then win the Open Division, they should be your Team of The Year. In 2008 you screwed over Grant by selecting Centennial as your Team of the Year because they beat DLS. Grant beat two out-of -state winners and No. 2 Long Beach Poly. If DLS had played LB and had won, even with DLS’s loss to Don Bosco, you would have still selected DLS as team of the year. You need to stop favoring the East Bay so much, it is sickening.

    • Posted December 1, 2012 at 12:36 pm | Permalink

Well, this year, with the top two teams in both north and south going to Open Division it will be easy to pick the Open Division champ as State Team of the Year. As for Centennial vs. Grant in 2008, since then I think it’s been proven that Centennial was the better team. My goodness, look at all the guys in the Pac-12 and Taylor Martinez at Nebraska from off that Centennial team and that doesn’t even include Vontaze Burfict in the NFL. As for favoring the East Bay, I think you are mainly referring to De La Salle, which in its history has never lost to a Sac-Joaquin Section team (something like 16-0). Once one of those teams wins (shoot, maybe it’s this year and good for Folsom if it’s them) then “favoring the East Bay” can legitimately stop.

Also want to alert all you Serra, Oceanside, Chaminade, Edison fans that Ronnie Flores of Cal-Hi Sports is going to the Oceanside game tonight. After that, we (meaning Cal-Hi Sports) will have watched all three SoCal D2 teams in person and Ronnie plans to write a nice long comparison of these teams. Not based on a computer ranking, not watching on TV but actually going to watch in person.

Tennis still has not touched Serra’s 2 (two) losses…
oceanside fans forget (while no one else has) the fact that oceaside got torched by chaparrall…

    gave up 40 points…
it does not matter who was hurt…
you lost to the lone SS team you played…
and that team (by the end of the season) turned out to be a “ok to bad” SS team…

Oakdale(section champ and up for nor cal regional), Poway(playing for section tonight), Mission Hills, Ramona(playing section game tonight), Chaparral and Vahalla are all better than Villa Park. 4 of 5 teams better have or will tonight play for a section title. How many Edison opponents are playing for a section title beside VP and MD????Just saw replay of serra/ nade game and Edison would be a poor choice for selection if Serea is chosen…small and no speed for Edison…Serra will blow them out. You cannot dispute that!

True i go to oceanside high and they blamed everything on injuries i use to be on the team but had to stop the san diego section for division 2 didnt have very strong teams so oceanside got away with all the wins they had they didnt play any team that was hard to them

That team that looked “average”…shut down three Pac-5 teams this year, and did the same to Mater Dei for three quarters. If not for the class of Dave White, Edison might have scorched the CIF fewest points allowed record, but he doesn’t keep the starters in just to run up some “BCS style” ranking. Even with garbage-time touchdowns against the JV roster, Edison averaged SIX points scored against them all season – and that’s a 14 game schedule…nobody else has played that many games except Mater Dei. San Clemente and Servite were shutout…oh, yeah…FIVE shutouts.

Last night’s game was close, with Edison’s defense forcing plenty of turnovers. Edison had four interceptions, and plenty more opportunities. Villa Park was averaging 150yards from its star tailback. But you say, “VP looked bad.” Yeah…great teams will do that to you.

NorCal707, are you saying EDISON is “small and no speed”? What channel were you watching, because their line averages over 300 lbs. As for speed, I guess the black cleats are working, and I’ll let you keep thinking so. “How many Edison opponents are playing for a section title?”

When you play what the Orange County Register calls the “toughest non-league schedule of ANY school,” there are only so many titles available to be played for. Servite, Mater Dei, Garfield of Los Angeles, San Clemente, Villa Park…which of those teams are you now going to disparage…I’m sure they’ve got some things to say to you…

    Calpreps current state rankings…

    25 Poway
    38 Villa Park
    41 Mission Hills
    64 Chaparral
    70 Oakdale
    88 Valhall
    95 Ramona

Can we now stop all the monkey-business?

The idea that Oceanside has played 4 teams better than Villa Park is true nowhere but in the minds of Oceanside fans…

The San Diego Section is garbage…

Proof of that is the fact that the 3rd Place Southwest League team, who was one and done in the Inland Division playoffs beat the San Diego Section Champion…

question,if MD beats LBP in the pac 5 final and Narbonne beats Crenshaw in the city final will that be a slam dunk for rematch of those two for the open regional game?

    • Posted December 1, 2012 at 1:28 pm | Permalink

Yes, I think so. This is because Corona Centennial’s loss is to St. Bonnie and MD shut out St. Bonnie last week. If Poly wins, then Centennial moves up to the open division but in that scenario expect Central Section to make a push for Clovis North. If Crenshaw wins, it would almost surely just replace Narbonne because in that scenario the Cougars will have beaten a team that has wins over both MD and Poly.

Hey…..Edison just won the CIF Championship! How about we congratulate Coach White, the players, and the coaches for a great season! Instead we bash, bash, bash! Give it a rest please….if the season ended for Edison last night then i am alright with that….Oceanside is a great school with lots of tradition too…i will be the first to congratulate them also! I love high school football because its football in a pure state…but you guys put the BCS spin on football which makes high school football kind of have slimy taste to it….just saying!

Oceanside at this point in the season is a great team. Tofi Paopao is the best Qb out of the 3 teams. Serra looked sloppy, no precision, bad special teams, more city chaos type football. Edison is slow and not very talented on offense. Oceanside is the best team offensively, skill wise, speed, and on defense.

FOR THE RECORD: Oceanside has had an easy schedule. When they get a chance to compete with a CIF SS team-Chaparral (a weak SS team at that) …they LOSE 40-30. This should be a clear indication to those voting how Oceanside stacks up. Edison set up the toughest pre-season schedule and then lost to a PAC 5 Semi finalist. Chaparral wasn’t able to make it out of the first round of CIF SS playoffs losing 24-14 to Charter Oak. You can try to run circles around the facts but you can’t hide from them. They are black & white and will be looked at. BOTTOM LINE: Oceanside could not handle a weak SS team…how can they compete against a strong one?

I disagree, Serra is a damn good team with an excellent defense,You will see if you are lucky enough to make the regional, serra is a lock after that dominating Poly win.tonight.
