Bishope Apodaca (Fremont, Oakland)
The Tigers’ faithful weren’t sure if Bishope should be elevated to Archbishop or Cardinal after he rushed for 269 yards and five touchdowns to lead his team to a 42-25 win last week over crosstown St. Elizabeth. Fremont improved to 2-1 after going 0-9 last season.

Cade Apsay (Canyon, Canyon Country)
Completing 23 of his 39 pass attempts for the Cowboys, he finished with 405 yards through the air and had five scores in a 56-27 win two weeks ago over Knight of Palmdale.

Caleb Baumann (Gahr, Cerritos)
In a 59-25 triumph last week against Artesia of Lakewood, the latest high-flying passer for the Gladiators went 18 of 28 for 367 yards and five scores. Baumann also passed for more than 300 yards and five touchdowns in his previous game.

Deven Boston (Buena Park)
The leading rusher in Orange County had a huge game two weeks ago in a 51-12 win over Magnolia of Anaheim. Boston was handed the ball 25 times and he scored five touchdowns while running for 405 yards.

Mitchell Boswell (El Diamante, Visalia)
The junior quarterback started the first game of his career two weeks ago and passed for 363 yards in a 27-7 win over Monache of Porterville. Boswell hit on 11of 17 throws and had one touchdown.

Wayne Brooks (Stagg, Stockton)

A junior quarterback who isn’t big at 5-9 is sure putting up big numbers for the 4-0 Delta Kings. In a 51-47 win last week at Manteca, Brooks connected on 22 of 39 passes for 407 yards and six touchdowns.

Austin Caldron (Brookside Christian, Stockton)
In a game played two weekends ago, Caldron led the Knights to their first win of the season – 36-6 against El Dorado of Placerville — by passing for 301 yards and three touchdowns.

Marcus Campbell (Encina, Sacramento)
Earning himself a spot in the Cal-Hi Sports state record book, Campbell rushed for a 99-yard touchdown in Encina’s 32-2 win over Kennedy of Sacramento two weeks ago.

Anthony Cantrell (Pajaro Valley, Watsonville)

Not only did the Grizzlies’ junior running back help end his school’s 11-game losing streak last weekend, but he reportedly broke the Santa Cruz County single-game rushing record with 362 yards on 25 carries, and the school’s game record for touchdowns with five. Not only that, but he had two of eight team interceptions on defense in a 34-7 home win over Gonzales.

Chase Chambers (Murrieta Mesa, Murrieta)
In a 60-47 shootout victory over Tahquitz of Hemet two weeks ago, Chambers completed 31 of his 40 pass attempts for 469 yards and five touchdowns. He already has more than 1,400 yards for the season.

Nathan Cole (Aliso Niguel, Aliso Viejo)
In a rare game played last Saturday, Cole completed 26 of his 34 pass attempts for 430 yards and six touchdowns as the Wolverines’ defeated Coronado 42-12.

Kyler Collicott (Willits)
The Wolverines’ running back and son of coach Nat Collicott rushed for four TDs and returned the second half kickoff 93 yards to paydirt in a 34-6 home win last week over Calistoga.

Austin Connolly (Justin-Siena, Napa)
This senior running back and linebacker was literally a one-man wrecking crew in a 46-6 win two weeks ago over Santa Rosa Piner. Connolly only had 14 carries but rushed for 270 yards and four TDs, including a 57-yard romp to paydirt. On defense, he had a sack, forced a fumble and batted down a pass.

Kahiligh Creamer (Fremont, Sunnyvale)
The junior linebacker had three sacks and 15 total tackles in a 47-13 drubbing two weeks ago of San Jose Silver Creek.

Nick Davis (Pacifica, Oxnard)
Bouncing back from his team’s 38-point loss from the week before, Davis tossed two touchdown passes while also rushing for 166 yards and three touchdowns and even had an interception while playing defense in a 63-27 win over Santa Paula two weeks ago.

Dan Deely (Sonoma Valley, Sonoma)
The Dragons’ junior signal caller passed for 297 yards and five TDs, including three to Dustin Sloane, in a 41-39 see-saw win two weeks ago over visiting Novato San Marin.

James Dicks (Central, Fresno)
In Central’s 42-7 win last week over El Diamante of Visalia, Dicks was the latest secondary star to shine for the state-ranked Grizzlies as he returned a 95-yard interception for a touchdown. According to CIF Central Section historian Bob Barnett, it is the third longest in school history.

Luis Dorame (Monroe, North Hills)
Despite earning himself a spot in the state record book with his 57 pass attempts two weeks ago, Dorame likely will be a bit dissapointed as he completed 39 of those pass attempts for 409 yards and five scores in a 49-32 loss to Bernstein of Los Angeles.

Devin Eldridge (Center, Antelope)
The Cougars had little trouble in defeating Natomas 63-0 last week with Eldridge contributing on both sides of the ball. He scored three touchdowns and intercepted three passes on defense.

Justin Ewing (Capuchino, San Bruno)
Unlike the rumbling of the explosion in San Bruno a while back, the rumbling last week came in the form of this 6-foot, 195-pound senior running back. Besides running for touchdowns of 58, 70 and 72 yards in a 35-28 win over Palo Alto Gunn, Ewing set a new CIF Central Coast Section rushing mark of 494 yards on 44 carries. He also takes over second place in the Bay Area after eclipsing the 457 yards (24 carries) of Concord’s Olito Thompson set last season. The top Bay Area mark is 555 yards in 2001 by Dallas Bernstine of Vallejo Bethel. According to the Cal-Hi Sports state record book, the total also moves Ewing into the No 2 position in Northern California, passing the 480 yards of Tejon Sorrell of Vacaville Christian in 2002. Ewing, who rushed for 1,850 yards and 18 TDs last year, now has 877 yards for three games this season.

Ian Fieber (Mission Viejo)
The Diablos are ranked in the top 10 of the state in large part due to this talented quarterback. He passed for 393 yards and two touchdowns in a 42-17 road win two weeks ago over Santiago of Corona.

Ronzel Fox (Galileo, San Francisco)
Fox was the one doing the hunting in a 48-7 win over Gonzales in a game played two weeks ago. The junior running back and linebacker rushed for 163 yards on eight carries and scored four touchdowns. On defense, he had 10 tackles, an interception, two forced fumbles and he recovered a fumble he took 72-yards for a fifth score.

Brian Freeman (California School for the Deaf, Fremont)
The Eagles’ senior ran for 241 yards in a 35-29 last-minute win over Calistoga two weeks ago, and then came back to rush for five TDs (four in the first quarter) in a 47-0 win last week against Richmond.

Justin Green (Oak Park, Agoura Hills)
He did it all on defense for the Eagles in their 39-14 win last week over Simi Valley as he recorded a safety, recovered three fumbles and returned two interceptions for scores.

Marcus Green (Franklin, Elk Grove)
The Wildcats moved into the top 25 of our state rankings this week after their 23-3 win over Cosumnes Oaks of Elk Grove. Green led the defense in the win with three interceptions.

Sly Hairston (Banning)
Despite Hairston running for 326 yards and four touchdowns on just 16 carries, it wasn’t enough to prevent a 56-35 loss by the Broncos to Beaumont last Friday night.

Ryan Hunley (Bellflower)
The senior back piled up 352 yards on 29 carries and scored three times in a 42-28 loss two weeks ago to Paramount. Hunley “only” had 160 yards on 16 carries last week, but it came in a win against Santa Ana Valley.

Nick Howard (Pacifica, Garden Grove)
Putting on an impressive first-half passing performance, Howard tossed five touchdown passes before halftime and finished with six in a 40-21 win over Millikan of Long Beach two weeks ago.

Deshawn Johnson (Acalanes, Lafayette)
To say he was all the offense when Acalanes topped Tennyson of Hayward 7-0 last weekend would be an understatement. The Dons’ running back carried 21 times for 204 yards rushing, including a 23-yard TD run with 8:49 left, to account for the only score of the contest.

Josiah Johnson (Sacramento)
Not only did Johnson pass for 371 yards and four touchdowns, but he also forced a fumble and returned it 45 yards for a score as the Dragons defeated Foothill of Sacramento 48-18 two weeks ago.

Corbin Jountii (Liberty, Bakersfield)
Talented senior has been a 100-yard machine so far this season. He had his fourth straight such outing in last week’s win against Buchanan of Clovis with 25 carries for 121 yards and two scores. Jountii’s top outing was 16 for 230 in a victory vs. Delano. Liberty’s only loss so far came by one point to state-ranked Central of Fresno.

Hunter Karnthong (Antioch)
He was responsible for a lot of the points in a 70-20 win last week over San Ramon Dougherty Valley, and he got his game on early. The Panthers’ quarterback had a 90-yard punt return, two TD runs, including an 80-yarder, a 70-yard TD pass and two 2-point conversions, all in the first half. He also does all of the team’s kicking duties.

Andrew Lewis (Linden)
Linden fans were lucky they had Lewis on their side in last week’s 33-30 victory against Riverbank. Lewis finished with 222 yards rushing on 18 carries and had three scores. He also caught four passes for 89 more yards and another score.

George Loa (Orange Glen, Escondido)
In a game two weeks ago, Loa set a new school record by rushing for 249 yards on 17 carries and scoring a pair of touchdowns to lead the Patriots past Hueneme of Oxnard 41-7.

Steven Machado (Orestimba, Newman)
Standout player has helped Orestimba to a 4-0 start on the season. In last week’s 62-0 romp past Gustine, Machado reached the end zone six times for touchdowns and rushed for 248 yards on 15 carries. The Warriors will find out how good they are this season with upcoming games against both Hilmar and Escalon.

Conner Manning (El Toro, Lake Forest)
Before Eli Manning had his big game on Sunday in the NFL, it was another Manning who put up a big performance on Friday night. Conner completed 36 of his 54 pass attempts for 444 yards and five touchdowns as the Chargers defeated Palos Verdes of Palos Verdes Estates 45-24. The 36 completions also will earn him a spot in the state record book.

Drake Martinez (Laguna Beach)
It was four yards short of getting him into the state record book, but OCVarsity reports that Drake’s 95-yard run for a score in a 74-19 win against Glenn of Norwalk last Thursday will get him in the school record book as it is the longest in the school’s 78-year history.

Zach Masoli (Archbishop Riordan, San Francisco)
From a game two weeks ago, the younger brother of former Oregon QB Jeremiah Masoli tied a school record with five TD passes in a 48-32 win over visiting St. Mary’s of Berkeley.

Sterlin Montgomery (Christopher, Gilroy)
Sterlin was almost sterling after going 34-for-50, throwing for 403 yards and three touchdowns, but the junior also threw two costly interceptions in a 41-25 loss last week to Pacific Grove, a game that lasted almost four hours.

Jeremiah Murrillo (Soledad)
Murrillo was the real deal last weekend in leading the Aztecs to their first victory over a large school in their 14-year history. In a 34-7 win over visiting North Salinas of Salinas, Murrillo rushed for 306 yards and three TDs, including runs of 70 and 78 yards, the latter coming on Soledad’s first offensive play.

Trevor Patterson (San Lorenzo Valley, Felton)
In SLV’s 27-12 loss to visiting Edison of Stockton two weeks ago, Patterson came up with three interceptions, including one he returned for a touchdown.

Kendrick Payne (Skyline, Oakland)
Payne injected some pain early in a 19-6 win last week over Fremont Kennedy. He scored a pair of touchdowns, including an 88-yard kickoff return to begin the game, and also intercepted a pass in the end zone.

David Perkins (Segerstrom, Santa Ana)
Making the most of his 15 carries last Friday night, Perkins ran for 204 yards and five touchdowns as the Jaguars moved to 4-0 on the year with a 55-12 win over Godinez of Santa Ana.

Cedrick Phillips (McNair, Stockton)
In addition to Stagg of Stockton, another local team off to a 4-0 start is McNair. And like Stagg, which had a junior quarterback throw for more than 400 yards last week, Phillips did even better. He also put his name into the state record book by connecting with teammate Nicholas Easter for a 99-yard touchdown. Easter (five catches, 217 yards) also hauled in a 85-yard bomb from Phillips. For the game, Phillips ended 15 of 24 for 492 yards and five scores.

Elijah Porchia (Mission Oak, Tulare)
He set a new school record two weeks ago by rushing for 331 yards on 14 carries and scored five touchdowns (one was from 95 yards out) as Mission Oak romped past Golden West of Visalia 67-0. Porchia also scored on a 42-yard pass play.

Joe & Mikey Protheroe (Clayton Valley, Concord)
The brothers wore out host Vintage of Napa in a 68-21 victory by the Eagles last weekend. Joe, a bruising 6-foot-1 205-pound running back, was really dishing it out. On only 17 carries, the senior rushed for 306 yards and three touchdowns. Junior quarterback Mikey liked it in wine country as well, and added a 4-for-4 passing performance for 150 yards and two TDs. Mikey also ran for a third score.

Jeffrey Prothro (James Logan, Union City)
The senior quarterback was a pinpoint 16-for-18 passing for 313 yards and tossed five TD passes last week before Heritage of Brentwood even hit the board in a 48-14 victory.

Austin Renken (Centennial, Corona)
The Huskies moved up to No. 12 in the state this week after Renkin rushed for 223 yards and two scores in a 36-32 come-from-behind win over Alemany of Mission Hills.

Ondre Rudolph (Dublin)
Although Rudolph’s team lost 21-13 to Amador Valley of Pleasanton two weeks ago, the Gaels’ senior running back carried 29 times for 212 yards and two touchdowns, giving him back-to-back 200-plus yard games.

James Sams (Los Banos)
A majority of the Tigers’ plays two weeks ago in a 42-28 win over Manteca were handoffs to Sams. He ended up with 40 carries for 354 yards while scoring three touchdowns.

Daviante Sayles (Rancho Buena Vista, Vista)
To say he got a few carries would be an understatement as he was handed the ball 51 times in a 39-27 win over Scripps Ranch of San Diego. Sayles turned all those carries into 339 yards and four touchdowns.

Edgar Segura (Mendota)
In a 40-31 triumph two weeks ago against Fresno High, Segura tallied six touchdowns on runs of 3, 72 and 53 yards and on receptions of 20, 27 and 85 yards. The junior standout also rushed for 256 yards on 21 carries and finished with four catches for 140 yards.

Ryan Severson & Kirk Johnson (Valley Christian, San Jose)
Severson only carried 12 times but rushed for 228 yards and three touchdowns, including a 94-yard scoring run, to lead VC past Bishop O’Dowd of Oakland 42-21 two weeks ago. Johnson added 152 yards on 16 carries, including an 80-yard romp to paydirt.

Isaiah Sharp (Wasco)
The sophomore running back became the third player in school history to rush over 300 yards in one game.  He did it and set a new school record last week in a 62-18 win over Golden Valley of Bakersfield.

Nick Sheehan (Miramonte, Orinda)
Sheehan had a hot hand in a game played two weeks ago as he passed for 388 yards and three TDs, but the Matadors lost a last-minute 36-28 decision to Analy of Sebastopol.

Cody Siles (Strathmore)
Siles seemed to run for miles last week when the Spartans spanked Orosi 30-7. The junior finished with a career-best 280 yards on 20 carries, which also is third-best in school history.

Thomas Sperbeck (Jesuit, Carmichael)
In front of over 15,000 people this past weekend at Hughes Stadium, he tossed a touchdown pass, ran for two scores and returned a fumble 85 yards for a score as the Marauders defeated Christian Brothers of Sacramento 28-23 in the annual Holy Bowl. The week before, Sperbeck passed for 232 yards and two scores while also rushing for 173 yards and two touchdowns in a 33-26 win over El Camino. He is the son of Sacramento State coach Marshall Sperbeck, who has had an enjoyable last two weeks, including his team’s win at Colorado.

Johnny Stanton (Santa Margarita, Rancho Santa Margarita)
It was an interesting scene for the Eagles in their 55-0 win over Trabuco Hills two weeks ago as Stanton not only completed 17 of his 21 pass attempts for 325 yards and three scores but he rushed for 89 yards and two touchdowns. The Nebraska commit played in front of a crowd full of Nebraska fans and media, who were in town for the Cornhuskers’ game the next day against UCLA.

Frank Stephens (St. Elizabeth, Oakland)
Of his team’s 262 yards in the air, Frank had most of them in his tank after catching seven passes for 254 yards and three touchdowns, but it wasn’t enough in a 42-25 loss last week to crosstown Fremont. St. Liz extended the state’s longest current losing to 23 games, but there are signs that the streak should end soon.

Jack Stinn & Andrew Vollert (St. Ignatius, San Francisco)
Quarterback Stinn threw for 303 yards to lead the Wildcats last week in a convincing 31-7 triumph vs. Menlo-Atherton of Atherton. His favorite target was wide receiver Vollert, who caught seven passes for 202 yards, including a 66-yard TD strike.

Nate Tago (Tesoro, Rancho Santa Margarita)
The team’s bus may have had trouble running as it broke down on the way to a game two weeks ago, but Tago was running on all cylinders in a 24-14 win over Chino Hills. He ran for 227 yards and scored three touchdowns.

Robert Taylor (Castro Valley)
The junior defensive back and running back had four interceptions and also rushed for 103 yards and two TDs in a 40-14 road win last week at Brentwood Liberty. According to the Cal-Hi Sports record book, Taylor’s interception total was just one off of the reported East Bay record of five set in 2003 by Ross Roman from Kennedy of Fremont. It takes five, however, to gain a listing in the book in that category.

Michael Turner (Seaside)
In a CCS non-league coastal showdown last weekend, the Spartans’ quarterback turned it on, completing 23-of-38 passes for 327 yards and four touchdowns in a 32-19 win over host Soquel.

Marqus Valenzuela (San Gabriel)
Incompletions were rare in San Gabriel’s 41-10 win over Baldwin Park last week as Valenzuela completed 25 of his 31 pass attempts for 403 yards and four scores.

Jonathan Walters (Saratoga)
In one of the more amazing efforts of the young season, the Falcons’ quarterback threw 27 passes and only one touched the turf in a 50-22 win two weeks ago against San Jose Branham. The 5-foot-10 junior was 25-of-27 for 362 yards with five TDs and an interception.

Jordan Whitley (Cordova, Rancho Cordova)
Finishing five yards shy of running for 300 yards, Whitley finished with 295 yards on 21 carries as the Lancers defeated Hiram Johnson of Sacramento last weekend by a 45-30 final score.

Ryan Wolpin (Santa Margarita, Rancho Santa Margarita)
During the Eagles’ 72-0 win over Carson last Friday, Wolpin set the school record for rushing touchdowns and total touchdowns in a game, according to team SID Adrian Peters, as he carried the ball 16 times for 173 yards and six scores.

Connor Wynn (Mission Hills, San Marcos)
The younger brother of former Oceanside standout Jordan Wynn broke a school record when his team beat Rancho Bernardo of San Diego 42-7 two weeks ago. Wynn, a junior, completed 19 of 29 passes for the school record 336 yards and had three TDs.

Aaron Zwahlen (Downey, Modesto)
After Central Catholic of Modesto won a big game over St. Mary’s of Stockton two weeks ago, the Raiders couldn’t get past Zwahlen and his team last weekend. With the 6-foot-3 senior on a roll, Downey topped Central Catholic 45-42. He completed 20 of 36 passes for 336 yards and four TDs. For the season, Zwahlen also upped his totals to 1,348 yards and 20 TDs in just four games.

Licoln v. SM will be a great battle like it is every year. IMO, it will come down to Lincon’s o-line v. SM’s Def. Stockton and the SJS are in for a show!
