There were some big upsets in CIF section playoffs up north, but not in the south as the three of the top four teams in the state — No. 1 Corona, No. 3 Crespi and No. 4 St. John Bosco — plus No. 2 Granite Hills of El Cajon will all be in section semifinals on Tuesday. Previous No. 5 Huntington Beach was the highest ranked CIF Southern Section team that was ousted prior to the D1 semifinals. The biggest upsets in the north saw defending CIF NorCal D1 champ Granada of Livermore and previous No. 8 Buchanan of Clovis both get taken down.
