    @Mark Tennis,

Since everybody on your D1 list are all in the PAC 5 it means that only 1 team from that playoff bracket can go to a bowl game since it can only have 1 CIF champion. Is it realastic that Oceanside and Centennial be considered if they win CIF championships even though they have 2 losses?

Yes, it’s realistic to think about that. If Fresno Edison finishes unbeaten and wins Central Section title, it’s also realistic to think that Fresno Edison will get more votes from the selection committee. It would be a situation where they would be measuring strength of schedule against an unbeaten record.

There are several teams on your top 25 that Oceanside would easily handle…

As a Pirates fan myself, let’s be realistic buddy. O’side couldn’t handle Serra (I witnessed that game myself) and they couldn’t handle Mission Hills.

Your wrong about oside dog. They were handing Serra a defeat but starting QB went out and a quick momentum swing in points by serras D got them the victory.
As far as mission hills goes there’s been bad blood there for awhile since Connor transferred there but that’s the past. OSIDE WILL REPEAT AS SAN DIEGO CIF CHAMPS!!

Keep it real dawg, it doesn’t matter what happens during the game. All that matters is the WIN OR LOSS. O’side ended up with a loss against both top 25 teams.
I hope they do win CIF, but with the open division this year it’s going to be tough. This week is LCC, which is always a tough team. We’ll see how that goes.

The keepin it real is the fact you said oside couldn’t match Serra
Trust me it is about wins and loses I know that. I’ know they lost
But they sure were not manhandled like seem to think

Oceanside was not manhandled by Serra. Oceanside was taking it to Serra until the 4th when their QB goes out with cramps…honestly what other QB in America goes down with cramps in a high profile game??? Anyway, 3 costly errors by Oceanside allowed Serra back in and then some. It was a track meet of a game and Serra won. A win is a win and a loss is a loss. However, Serra did not dominate that game.

I am surprised that you didn’t have Bishop Diego at #2 or #3 in Div 4.
Their strength of schedule has been more difficult than the other teams you listed and they lost to the #3 ranked team in Div 3. I thought strength of schedule was a key factor?

Things will get sorted out soon in Div4. I think St. Margaret’s schedule has been pretty weak. But we’ll see how good they are when they play Mission Prep on the road this week. Christian (El Cajon) beat MP 42-0 in the first game of the season & if the score isn’t similar I think Christian should be #1. Parker has a tough game on the road against Santa Fe Christian in 2 weeks. Parker & Christian are in the same division so one of them will drop out in the playoffs. Rankings won’t matter if Bishop Diego doesn’t win their division.

Bishop Diego was just off of No. 3 and No. 4. Christian of El Cajon’s three-point loss to Mission Bay looks just a touch better than Bishop Diego’s loss to Oak Park.

I think it is unfair to the southern section teams vying for the Open and D-1 state crowns because the Pac-5 playoff bracket is far tougher than any other. There could be 7 teams in one bracket all ranked in the state’s top 30 and 6 of those will be eliminated from consideration. On the other hand teams like De La Salle play in a bracket with noone and can cruise to a regional game. Even teams like Folsom have harder roads. Playing difficult games each week weighs on teams and the ruled should allow for runners up to be considered as well as section champions.

What are you trying to say? DLS has it easy? They’ve handled the best teams in California every year. And I would think a tough schedule would prepare a team better anyway if that’s the argument. Hmm…maybe DLS does play a quality schedule when looked at that way. And who would pay to watch a schedule runner up win a title? You must be joking.

It seems like ever since their loss to Cathedral Catholic, the Broncos have been eliminated from any discussion of top 25. Yet, when many other D1 teams lose and then win, they bounce back into Top 25. Seems a bit biased against them for some reason. When you look at their wins against common opponents versus teams in the top 25, the Broncos have been more dominant. They beat Crespi 42 to 2 (ND won 41 to 27). They beat Great Oak 43 to 3. They beat Murrieta Valley 49 to 14 (RC won 34 to 19). And they beat REV 69 to 21 (Mission V won 47 to 21). They are 7-1, Ranked top 50 Nation and top 10 CA by MaxPreps, #1 in Riv Co by Press Ent, #8 in SoCal by Fox Sports West, yet no looks by CalHiSports.

When teams come back into the rankings, it’s because they are coming in for the most part behind teams they have lost to. Vista Murrieta’s loss was to a team that just lost again to St. Augustine. We really don’t care what all of those computers say or what Fox Sports West says. At this point, the Broncos haven’t beaten anyone as good as St. Bonaventure or Norco (two teams Centennial beat) and Cathedral isn’t close to LB Poly or Alemany (which are the two teams Centennial lost to).

Eventually there’s gonna have to be a playoff format. Remove to regular season games and go from there.

One Trackback

  1. […] (6-1) moved up one spot to No. 6 in the CalHiSports.com state football rankings and Archbishop Mitty (7-0) moved up five spots to No. 19. De La Salle (8-0) is still No. […]
