Top 25 Weekend Scoreboard

USC-bound Eddie Vanderdoes helped the defense at Placer of Auburn shut down Center of Antelope in the second half of a 15-14 victory Friday night that wrapped up a 10-0 regular season for the Hillmen. Placer was given the top seed in the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoffs on Saturday. This also officially means that the team will be D3 North and no longer D2 North for the CIF state bowl rankings. Placer has been No. 1 in D2 North for most of the season, but may not be No. 1 in D3 North due to the strengths of the teams at both Marin Catholic of Kentfield and El Cerrito.

Statement wins for No. 3 Vista Murrieta, No. 4 Mission Viejo and No. 5 St. John Bosco as regular season ends everywhere except the CCS. Pairings comments from Sac-Joaquin also already added as well.

Here is a look at scores through Saturday, Nov. 3. Compiled by Paul Muyskens with comments from editor Mark Tennis. Go to our Twitter page @CalHiSports for info on games we have attended. Go to our Facebook page for more updates.

1. DE LA SALLE (CONCORD) 10-0
Defeated California (San Ramon) 27-14. This score is similar to when the Spartans beat the Grizzlies two years ago in a 9-0 vs. 9-0 regular season finale. This time, it was 9-0 vs. 8-1.

2. NARBONNE (HARBOR CITY) 10-0
Defeated Gardena 53-7. Easy win for the Gauchos but opponent not close to the teams that No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 took care of.

3. VISTA MURRIETA (MURRIETA) 10-0
Defeated Chaparral (Temecula) 38-0. It wasn’t that long ago that Chaparral was unbeaten and up to No. 14 in the state.

4. MISSION VIEJO 10-0
Defeated No. 11 El Toro (Lake Forest) 49-7. Of all the statement wins on Friday, this one may have been the loudest. Mission Viejo also is one of the rare programs in the state that doesn’t have a losing record against De La Salle (2-2 all-time).

5. ST. JOHN BOSCO (BELLFLOWER) 10-0*
Defeated No. 7 Santa Margarita (Rancho Santa Margarita) 42-15. Going unbeaten in the Trinity League is quite a feat for the Braves.

6. MATER DEI (SANTA ANA) 8-2
Defeated Servite (Anaheim) 36-22. Only losses for the regular season end up being by one point to Narbonne and by eight to St. John Bosco. A top-ranked team may have to run into the Monarchs early on in the CIFSS Pac-Five playoffs.

7. SANTA MARGARITA (RANCHO SANTA MARGARITA) 8-2
Lost to No. 5 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) 42-15. The Eagles’ other loss was to Mater Dei.

8. ST. BONAVENTURE (VENTURA) 9-1
Defeated No. 19 Oaks Christian (Westlake Village) 30-21. With this big win and with Santa Margarita now having a second loss, it’ll be more okay to rank the Seraphs higher despite head-to-head loss in game that now-injured Johnny Stanton played in.

9. FRANKLIN (ELK GROVE) 10-0
Defeated Monterey Trail (Elk Grove) 28-6. Defending champ Granite Bay and unbeaten Burbank of Sacramento may be the Wildcats’ toughest obstacles toward winning CIF Sac-Joaquin D1 title. Second possible playoff game against Lincoln of Stockton (where many Franklin coaches were previously) also may be very interesting.

0. CENTENNIAL (CORONA) 9-1
Defeated Santiago (Corona) 70-21. This game was for the Big VIII League title and shows that the Huskies are primed to challenge Vista Murrieta in the CIFSS Inland Division playoffs.

11. EL TORO (LAKE FOREST) 9-1
Lost to No. 4 Mission Viejo 49-7. First inclination is that Chargers will fall behind at least Upland and Folsom in the next rankings.

12. UPLAND 10-0
Defeated Etiwanda 57-39. The Highlanders have successfully followed up their 12-1 season from last year and have a shot to do even better this year.

13. FOLSOM 10-0
Defeated Pleasant Grove (Elk Grove) 30-14. Pleasant Grove had a chance to force a three-way tie in league but Bulldogs would have none of it and start CIF Sac-Joaquin D2 playoffs as favorite. They may get rematch against Vacaville in second round, which was team they lost to in last year’s championship.

14. OCEANSIDE 9-1
Defeated El Camino 34-0. The score was 34-0 at halftime for the Pirates who have been looking like one of the best teams in their long history in recent weeks.

15. ELK GROVE 9-1
Defeated Davis 17-10. The Thundering Herd probably figured they were going to win over the Blue Devils by a more convincing margin. They start CIFSJS D2 playoffs with a No. 3 seed and would have to possibly face Folsom in the semifinals.

16. BELLARMINE (SAN JOSE) 8-1
Defeated Valley Christian (San Jose) 38-35. Remember, the regular season is not yet over in the CCS. The Bells still need one more win to likely earn top seed for Open Division.

17. EDISON (HUNTINGTON BEACH) 9-1
Defeated Huntington Beach 34-0. Chargers’ best chance to land CIF SoCal D2 bowl berth probably involves winning showdown in CIFSS Southwest Division final over Tustin (which would be 13-0 by that point).

18. CRENSHAW (LOS ANGELES) 9-1
Defeated Manual Arts 52-0. At least this week the Cougars got to play after last week’s default victory over West Adams Prep.

19. OAKS CHRISTIAN (WESTLAKE VILLAGE) 8-2
Lost to No. 8 St. Bonaventure (Ventura) 30-21. The Lions were ahead 14-0 in the first half, but gave up a TD in the closing seconds. St. Bonnie then took over in the second half.

20. LOMPOC 10-0
Defeated Cabrillo (Lompoc) 66-0. Another ho-hum romp for the Braves, who have now won 30 in the row.

21. CHAMINADE (WEST HILLS) 9-1
Defeated Cathedral (Los Angeles) 62-26. Big question now is whether the Eagles have done enough to get ranked over Oaks Christian, which is the only team they’ve lost to.

22. ALEMANY (MISSION HILLS) 8-2
Defeated Loyola (Los Angeles) 45-17. With Amat losing to Notre Dame, the Warriors are co-champs in the Serra League but get No. 1 playoff berth with head-to-head win over Knights.

23. BISHOP AMAT (LA PUENTE) 7-2-1
Lost to Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks) 49-28. This one also forces the Lancers to have to petition for an at-large berth into the CIFSS Pac-Five playoffs.

24. CLOVIS 9-1
Defeated Clovis West (Fresno) 28-16. CIF Central Section’s No. 1 team always has trouble with archrival.

25. SERRA (SAN MATEO) 8-1
Defeated St. Ignatius (San Francisco) 47-21 on Saturday. Running back Eric Redwood had more than 200 yards rushing.

You wont get credit for beating very weak teams, thats just the way it goes.
We will see what Lompoc is made of in a few weeks.
